Tofu French Toast and the Pipeline

Rejection!

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, January 23, 2012. The Obama administration has rejected the Keystone pipeline and in doing so, has dealt a blow to job creation and energy security. Before we take a closer look at this development let's prepare some Tofu French Toast for breakfast. Getting aggravated on a full stomach is preferable to getting upset and starving at the same time.

You will need 4 slices of whole wheat bread, 1/2 pound soft tofu, 1/4 cup soy milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 cup water and 1 tablespoon butter ( the healthy kind).

Mix tofu, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and water in a blender. Spray a skillet with non-fat spray and dip the bread into the faux egg mixture. Brown the bread in the skillet and you are good to go. Drown this healthy breakfast in jam or syrup. A nice Irish Coffee would go nicely, as well. Sit back and relax. I feel a letter coming on.

To the President of the United States:

Your administration rejected TransCanada Corp.'s permit application to build the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline has been studied extensively in terms of its environmental impact and has been pronounced as a safe and viable project that is in our national interest.

Your rejection of the pipeline is nothing short of criminal. The pipeline would have produced real jobs as opposed to the imaginary ones you are always referring to. The pipeline would have given our nation a source of energy not tied to the Middle East, but rather from our ally, Canada. Seems like a win-win proposal to me, so why the rejection, sir?

Are you trying to get by the election? Are you trying to appease your environmental left-wing base that does not want this project to come to fruition? You claim that your administration needs more time to study the idea. It's already been studied for 3 years, so that simply can't be true. How can you possibly live with the idea that this valuable source of energy may end up in China, because of your refusal to make the responsible choice?

We need jobs and we need energy. What we don't need is a president more invested in his re-election than in the welfare of this nation. If you were really concerned about our nation you never would have given money to failed companies like Solyndra. If your administration had bothered to investigate the company before handing over tons of money, it is possible that the investment would have been considered a bad one. Actually, I am just being kind when I say this. Solyndra is a perfect example of political payback at the expense of the taxpayer. The rejection of this pipeline is the same.

As a taxpayer, I want you to know that I resent the political game you are playing with my money and with the future of this nation. I am not your personal piggy bank. I am not here to make sure you win re-election at the expense of my nation's future and security. I am on to you and so are many, many other citizens who are acutely aware that you are playing it fast and loose with our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. I heard you say that you were probably going to be a one-term president. Can you at least keep your word on that?...POP...

Pop,

The proponents of the pipeline need to adopt a new strategy. Say that the pipeline is for the magical, mystical,(non-existant) bio fuel but will be used for oil until it can flow FULL of mystical fuel. Obama and the eco-nuts will swoon.

Obumma is just an arrogant, moronic empty suit who cares nothing about this country or its citizens. He cares only about himself and what he can get out of being president. I am going to the bar early. BARTENDER...............

Good Morning Tom,

Good idea. I also think that Obama would be willing to approve it if the oil headed straight for China! See you at the Inn, I am confused and I want some nachos to wash down the tofu!

Good Morning taxlarry,

So tell me, how do you really feel? See you at the bar. Sorry about the tofu, you seem like a tofu hating kind of guy! Drinks are on me.

No matter who wins the election, the pipeline will then be built!

If Obama wins, he will quickly 'change his mind' to please his union buddies, and if a Republican wins, it will be built because the country needs it.

With Obama, it's always about politics.

Good Morning Will,

Of course, the company can make a deal with China instead because of all this delay. You're right, though, it's nothing but politics and to hell with the best interests of the nation. I am skating over to the Inn earlier than usual. See you there.

POP: Obama doesn't want to upset his environmental voters, but eight in ten don't have this as a high priority in their decision when voting. This ranks high in personal values, and low in political priorities.

The BP oil spill was going to ruin our Florida Gulf Coast. YOu saw it every day on TV. It just was untrue. It never hit the Naples area, and I was in Panama City Beach in August of that year, 4 months after the spill and the beaches were pristine. I am not saying that there was not an issue, but both BP and some oil-loving creature under the sea took care of eliminating the damage. Environmentalists say that it would take years to recover. In over a year, all was well. We should look at this recovery and know that we can safely drill. The cost to BP was 21 billion. While high, it was significantly less than the 40 billion they put aside for damages. Obama knows all this, and yet he doesn't want the Keystone Pipeline, even though it has already went through all the approvals. The small issue in Nebraska has been settled. It is clear to me that Obama just doesn't care about jobs, or energy independence. America needs to remain dependent - Why? I'll never know. What I want to see in November is that he loses with a double digit margin!

I'll stop ranting now, I'm off to the bar. Save me a seat.....

Good Morning Pino,

You are on fire this morning and I love it! What I want to see is Obama and Michelle packing their bags for their permanent trip back to Chicagoland. He is singlehandedly throwing away our hard earned money on projects that are flawed in order to say thank you to his donors. We now have a real opportunity to make an investment in our present and our future and he turns his back because, once again, he needs to pay back his supporters. Our nation is just one big Chicago and to hell with right or wrong. See you at the Inn. I have my sled and I will be there soon. Drinks are on me.

Good Morning Lynn,

If Obama wins a second term, then he may even approve the pipeline provided Canada still wants to deal with us. Otherwise, a Republican will surely see the wisdom of approval. See you at the Inn. I'm buying.

Is appeasing political friends and donors more important to Obummy than creating jobs and new energy sources? Of course it is. His narcissist ego demands that second term. We must remember in November!

I had to chuckle at your statement "can you at least keep your word on that?" He has accomplished much during his term but not sure how it made a positive difference. Yes, enough study on the pipeline has been done and evidence supports the need for new sources of fuel. Great argument and hub!

Gee, I wish the govt. would help build the living spaces needed in North Dakota where we have billions of barrels of oil waiting to be extracted and produced. And we have oil coming in from Canada there already and not enough people to refine it because of the lack of living space. Is it all a conspiracy to stop oil?

Well, in Ohio we have enough people, homes, and materials for building what we need to extract the overwhelming amounts of oil found in half of Ohio, east and south, and to refine it. So the governor did well there. Maybe Gov. Kasich can help Texas?

Let's drill oil at the Inn.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 4 months ago

Dear Patty,

N. Dakota is booming because of the oil. We need a real energy policy in this country that strives to make us energy independent. Who wouldn't want to see that happen? Obama. See you at the Inn. If we find oil we'll make french fries!

And believe it or not, there are some whom think stopping this pipeline is one of the best things Obama has done. We all know a small leak in this pipeline would have destroyed the whole continent, so he is really our savior, protecting us from ourselves. Just put all the drinks on my tab. I am just to frustrated to make it to the Inn tonight.

What? - A leak? - Absurdist theater, methinks.

Black petroleum french fries? Give them to the Captain of the Carnival Lines Concordia. It's going to take 28 days to pump all the oil and other fuel from the sunken ship that he abandoned before the passengers were off.

Hi Pop, Obama once again proves that he is out of touch w/ reality. Is he a man or a mouse? I'm all in favor of developing alternative fuel sources, but this plan has been all talk and no real action for over 40 years! We need both independence from Middle East oil and the jobs from the Keystone project- NOW! We could still continue the development of renewable energy sources as our economy moves forward from the benefits of the pipeline. See you at the Inn!

Good evening Pop, running late but as others have so well stated Obama really doesn't seem to give a rip. Maybe he will when he soon loses his job and joins the many others who wish they had a job. But then on the other hand, he will have his retirement and go on living the good life, Part II. His biggest worry will be to find a new home for his maw in law!

If I understand this correctly, this decision to stop the pipeline was all about votes. By stopping the pipeline, Obama bought the votes of every tree hugging environmentalist in the country, but risked losing the vote of all the unemployed and union people. My guess is he was given some numbers that proved he could get more votes from the tree huggers so this is the path he chose. With these votes in his pocket, he may win the election. Then as WillStarr stated, after the election he will change his mind and allow the pipeline to be built and regain the favor of the unemployed and the unions. A brilliant and well thought out plan when you think about it. Many citizens think this is the first pipeline designed to carry oil across our country. But in fact there are already hundreds of pipelines in existence today pumping oil and gas every day of our lives. Why has no effort been made to educate the citizens on this issue? Or has an effort been made but the media refuses to put it out there for all to see? Something is just really wrong about this whole situation.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 4 months ago

Good Morning Old Poolman,

I agree. This decision was made purely for political reasons. It had nothing to do with real concerns about the environment or needing to time to investigate the matter. They did that for years. As for the media not telling the whole story. When was the last time you heard the truth from the MSM? As for educating the citizens, I have to say way too many of them resist information. Just look at all this ridiculous bunk about Buffett paying less taxes than his secretary. The public can be very intractable, just like the president.
