Ham It Up

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, July 28, 2009 and I think it highly appropriate that we prepare A Breakfast Ham, emphasis on the ham, Casserole. Why not follow along and while we wait for the casserole to bake we can talk about a few things. You will need 12 slices of buttered white bread, 3 cups of diced ham, 1/2 pound of diced Velveeta, 1 package of broccoli florets, 6 well-beaten eggs, 1 quart of milk, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper and 1 teaspoon dry mustard. Cut bread into cubes and place in a greased casserole dish. Add ham, cheese and broccoli. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and milk. Add salt, pepper and mustard and mix well. Pour mixture over bread and allow bread to absorb the egg. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour. This recipe is delicious and it will be well worth the wait.

While the casserole is baking, let's once again bring up the Cambridge incident that has overtaken the news and is almost as hot a topic as health care reform.

...POP...Would someone out there please explain why this incident has mushroomed into the racial profiling story of all time. First of all, racial profiling had nothing to do with what took place the other day. The 911 caller did not bring up race. We all heard the tape, so the facts speak for themselves. It was the Professor who played the race card first and the President who kept it going. When you really sit down and think about what transpired, a lot of questions come to mind. Why did the Professor break into his house? Wouldn't it have been more prudent to call the police to explain his predicament and then to call a locksmith? That's what I would do.

If I were seen breaking into my own house and the police arrived, I would be mortified and very cooperative. I would agree that it was highly suspicious to see me smashing a door in and I would go out of my way to prove that the house was really mine. I would jump through hoops to prove my identity. I would show the officer my license, my electric bill with my address on it, a picture of my first born, my checkbook, You get the picture, the responsibility of proving who I am is mine and mine alone. I would never place that burden upon the police, because I am the one who broke into the house and they have a right to ask me to explain things.

Did the Professor believe that he was above the law, because of his relationship with the President? It's possible. Was he looking for a full blown racial profiling incident? I would say that he probably was. As it turns out Professor Gates is producing a new documentary for PBS.  It"s not going to be about the mating habits of whales, but you guessed it, racial profiling. Could this unfortunate confrontation with the police, actually be an attempt at some free publicity? It might be, that's all I can say.

One other thing, why did the President comment on this local incident at all? One, he knew nothing about the facts and two, it was a local happening that had no national  significance at all. I am wondering why the Cambridge incident was brought up at the press conference. I find it very strange that a conference that was supposed to revolve around health care reform would suddenly veer off with a highly inappropriate question, right out of left field.

The President characterized this incident as a "learning experience." I agree with this only in the respect that the Professor has to learn how to act rationally and the President has to learn that not everything is his business. I'm not worried about the Cambridge police, because they appear to know what they are doing.

Let's have the casserole now. I don't know about you, but I've worked up quite an appetite.

It seems to me that the question asked of the president about the Cambridge incident was a plant. As you said, why would that type of question come up at this presidential press conference? It also shows the types of people the president knows. Gates, who appears to see everything as racial, his buddy who tried to blow up buildings 30 years or so ago, his other buddy Rev Wright. One is judged by the company you keep, and the president's company is full of unsavory types. If the last presidential campaign tells us anything it seems that the 2012 race begins August 1. We can only hope. BARTENDER.............

POP, I am so glad you wrote about this incident. I have a few things to get off my chest, as well.

Why did our President get involved at all? Because Prof. Gates is a friend of his? He should have stayed out of it, especially, since he did not have all the facts. He took sides! (Makes me wonder!)

The Cambridge police stood by their officer. Kudos to all of them, who knew the facts and banded together to show everyone that they knew the law and abided by it.

Now, I am not a biased person, but I do hate when a black person states that they are singled out because they are black. Prof. Gates did break into a house. It was his, but he did it anyway. Did I miss something, but he was not arrested for breaking and entering. He was arrested because he gave the police a hard tme. Race card? Yes, but on Prof. Gates side. Certainly not on the side of the Cambridge police.

Beer withthe President? If I was that officer, I would bring a tape recorder. He owes no one an apology. Prof. Gates owes him an apology, and so does the President.

Looks like President Obama should have stayed away from this issue, and work on our country's issues.

I don't understand how the President even has time to comment on this. I don't know why he would comment on something that he doesn't "know all the facts." That was after he already said that it was a stupid move for the police in Cambridge. The whole thing is insane to me. Thanks for filling me in on the documentary, that explains ALOT. Sad for the police department that they have to shell out money for the lawyer to fight this jerk, I could think of a million other things they could use that money for. Can we all go have a beer with the President!!!!Insane!!!!Forget the casserole today, I am heading right to the hard stuff.

Dear taxlarry,

I agree, the President hangs out with a lot of angry dissident types who seem to always be at odds with the country. What have the American people done? Bartender!

Dear Pino Krisio,

Obviously, I agree with everything you say. Something about this entire incident doesn't feel right. Do the words purposeful and deliberate resonate with you?

Dear Jennifer,

Needless to say, this entire incident is a bit "fishy" to me. Certainly, the President has better things to do than add his two cents to an already overblown situation.

Maybe he was doing his friend Gates a favor. The casserole is delicious, but I'll meet you at the bar!

About the President's (so called) apology. I remember Woodward and Bernstien talking about the Nixon adminstration making non-denyal denyals, this Prisident made the first non-apologetic apology I have ever heard.

"Calibrate words", how about "No comment". That's the proper calibration.

Dear Tom Whitworth,

You're right, a non-apology apology. This President only apologizes to foreign nations who don't really have the best interests of our country at heart.

You know what sickens me is the fact that one word Stupidly has turned into such a media frenzy, at least its a word that can be found in a dictionary, unlike the past President who made up words, I guess the Mission has been Accomplished or has it, the war is still boiling I know the media has forgotten but every letter I get from my son, he tells a different story, you do know that the war is still ongoing, has everyone forgotten who started this WAR! Maybe we would have been better off with the Alzhimer kid and the quiter, "You bet ya!" I think not! maybe its time to run the senial, do nothings who are looking to die in office, OFF THE HILL. Now its recess time for the hard working GOOD OLE BOY's on the hill, will your elected officials be in their local office to meet with the people who elected them? NO! Well if you want to travel to their vacation home that isn't in their home state you might get a chance.

Dear RunEmIffTheHill(love the name!)

I gather your son is serving in the armed forces. I believe he is a patriot and I agree that the country seems to have forgotten that we are still waging a war. We can thank the media for that. As far as our elected representatives in Washington are concerned, a lot of them get very comfortable and want to hold on to the job for life, regardless of their accomplishments. It's time for many of them to go back home and call it a day.
