A Common Sense Breakfast

Who Represents Me?

Good Morning. Today is Wednesday, July 1, 2009. I am re-creating yesterday's Red Berry Shake because Breakfastpop's fan "nobhlpc" gave me a suggestion that was too delicious to pass up.  To quote"nobhlpc", "a shot or two of vodka would do wonders for your Red Berry Shake." Well, I tried it and I liked it, so today's breakfast choice is the Red Berry Vodka Shake.

There are some mornings that require a little fortification and today might just be one of them. The Gallup Poll released their findings yesterday and apparently more Americans than ever before view the Democrats as being "too liberal". The percentage of Americans who hold this view jumped from 39 percent to 46 percent. The connection between this dramatic increase and the government's ever expanding intrusion into our lives seems fairly obvious to me. Each new day seems to bring us ground-breaking legislation designed to change the way we do just about everything.

On the other side of the coin,  43 percent of Americans believe that the Republicans are too conservative. In any case, the poll seems to be indicative of an electorate that is not content with either the Democrats or the Republicans, and I am among them.

If there were to be a third party emerge in this country it should be the party of Common Sense. How refreshing it would be to see and hear important issues discussed and decided upon with the principle of common sense at its core. No cliques, no misguided allegiances, no holding fast to out-dated, unpopular practices, just good old-fashioned common sense.

If the Common Sense Party had a say, bills would never be 1,000 pages or more. Members of Congress would be given adequate time to thoroughly read the proposal and get valuable feed-back from the people who put them in office...us. Our opinions would be valued and acted upon, and above all common sense would prevail. The Common Sense Party would be above partisan politics and special interests. At the heart of every issue would be the "common sense test", if it sounds too good to be true it isn't, and if it promises the impossible then its impossible..

...POP...Now that's the kind of change I can live with.  I'll drink to that!

Great idea. However, as we know, common sense is dying a slow death. I think the vast majority of people don't care enough to keep common sense alive. With all the rush rush legislation that is being pushed through (without being read) members of Congress should be drowning in letters and e mails. I think such is not the case. Maybe July 4th tea parties can spur the "silent majority" on. I'll drink to that. BARTENDER!

taxlarry,

Common sense is only dying among the population of people who sadly tell us how to live. Those that support them are also without common sense, but I believe there are untold numbers of people who would welcome the Common Sense Party. I need another nip of my vodka shake!

Dearest POP,

I 'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed my minor modification to your Red Berry Shake. I'm always happy to share with others my "secret" ingredients. HEY BAR KEEP - FILL IT UP!

Just wanted to pass on to you the results of my highly unofficial Nobhlpc Poll. The finding are not so suprising. 80% of the American voting population are just plain stupid. (75 % can't read , much less understand a written sentence.)

No wonder our country is in the state that its in. The Commom Sense Party doesn't have a chance.......

I wanted to let you know well in advance that your favorite President is going to be at a Corzine rally at Rutgers, New Brunswick on July 16th. Plan well.

Personally, I think I'm going to be having problems in partaking of any of your wonderful breakfasts in the interim.

BAR KEEP - I NEED A DOUBLE!

Dear nobhlpc,

Your unofficial poll is probably more accurate than the professional pollsters. Just look at the mess we're in. I have no intention of going anywhere near Rutgers on that day. A meeting of the bad and the ugly is just too much for my digestive system. However, in the interim I will try to come up with breakfasts that you and I can handle. I think there's a bar in my future this evening!
