A Country Omelette and Al-Jazeera

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, April 18, 2011. Your taxes are due, the country is in a ditch and Al-Jazeera is becoming the darling of the White House. Let's prepare a Country Omelette this morning and zero in on the new relationship the Obama White House has with Al-Jazeera. You will need 6 large eggs, 1/3 cup milk, 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 and 1/2 tablespoons butter, 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, 2 tablespoons chopped green onion, 1/2 teaspoon salt, pepper to taste and one person to share breakfast with. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and stir in milk, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper. In a large skillet over med-low heat, melt butter and pour in the egg mixture. As the egg sets do the standard omelette thing ( you know tilt the edges yada yada yada). When the egg is almost set cover the pan and cook 2 more minutes. Remove cover and top one half of the omelette with the cheese and onion. Fold in half. Garnish with a little extra onion. Fix yourself and your egg companion a Bloody Mary and let me tell you a tale about this administration and Al-Jazeera.
Mention Al -Jazeera in civilized circles and a cold mistrust invades the air. At least that was the way things were when President George W. Bush was in the White House. Well, breakfastpoppers, things have changed. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised the network before the Senate calling their work product "real news". It was a regular "love in" at the Congressional Correspondents' Dinner in which staffers from the State Department, the CIA and the White House were in attendance because Al-Jazeera invited them. What a difference a few years make.
President Obama told CBS news about a visit the emir of Qatar made to the Oval Office. In referring to the visit President Obama said the following. "The emir of Qatar came by the Oval Office today, and he owns Al-Jazeera basically. Pretty influential guy. He is a big booster, big promoter of democracy throughout the Middle East. Reform, reform, reform. You're seeing it on Al-Jazeera." Things got a little tricky when the president had to admit that there is no real push towards democracy in Qatar despite the movements elsewhere. I can only surmise that the president wasn't aware of Egypt's slide towards the Muslim Brotherhood. It is highly unlikely that the democracy they say they wanted will look like democracy to us.
It seems that Al-Jazeera has been reborn in much the same as Al Sharpton. Once considered a rabble rousing trouble maker he is now worthy of a hug from President Obama. The same is true of Al-Jazeera. President Bush once joked about bombing it and now Sec. of State Clinton wants to pat them on the back.
Cliff Kincaid is the director of the Accuracy in Media Center for Investigative Reporting and president of America's Survival. He organized an event called "Stop Al-Jazeera" in an attempt to counter a campaign the network is making to get wider distribution throughout the nation. Kincaid's organization would like to see Rep. Peter King investigate Al-Jazeera as part of his hearings on homegrown Muslim radicalization.
The last thing we need in this country is regular broadcasting from a network that has always been considered anti-American. Let's not be fooled by Al-Jazeera's coverage of events unfolding in the Middle East. We really can't afford to have our heads in the clouds. I suggest that instead of embracing Al-Jazeera President Obama and Sec. of State Clinton embrace the values of Fox News...POP...

This does not surprise me at all given the turns of events we have taken since he came to lead or should I say mislead our country. Instead of making any good changes at all that I am able to see in the past few years, it seems as if the loon in the house is trying to eradicate America and it's way of life. While I was in Jordan I watched Al-Jazeera in both English and Arabic (with subtitles of course) and it really wasn't as crazy as our media makes it out to be. The impression I got was that it was like a Middle-Eastern BBC.
However, the current admin's cowtowing to radicals and extremists is disgusting and downright dangerous for our country. Voted up and awesome.

Every time we do the war thing to pad the pockets of the rich there are a large number of folks who cannot stay behind because they will be killed for helping the US. Like 1995 when we hauled thousands out of Saigon on ship decks. They got here and took over shrimping in the gulf Texas area of Corpus Christi and built up Garden Grove California, now called Little Saigon and who knows where else. It looks to me that the administration is prepping the US for all the people that will be coming from Iraq, and Afghanistan for the same reason. We want them to feel at home right? Voted up. It's crazy to me how a lot of people can say Obama isn't coddling the Middle East and the Muslims...they've become best friends during his administration! Hmmm, I see Fox News has run several stories on this recently. I also see that News Corp (parent company of Fox) has since invested $70 million in Prince Al Waleed’s media company called 'Rotana'. What is "Rotana"?
It is a direct competitor of Al Jazeera. I'm not defending Al Jazeera but I find it interesting that Fox news is trashing them not long after investing in their competitor.
By the way, Al Waleed (2nd largest shareholder of News Corp) is also one of the largest investors in the NYC mosque. Have not seen that story run on Fox yet?

Rotana is a mammouth entertainment company in the Arab Muslim world, television record companies, films and more. New Corp. owns about 9 percent of them. Frankly, I am highly suspicious of Saudi billionaires investing in our media in any way. If Fox News isn't discussing all the issues because they can't, then that is very troubling.

I am beginning to think that waiting until 2012 is just too long. He can inflict a lot of damage before we get a chance to kick him out and, although I hate to say it, he will probably summon up his troops to pull those levers in the voting booths countless times. I'm somewhat weak in this area, but I'll say this. We have a multi spinning media in this country that has to be deciphered carefully. I wouldn't buy an Arabic report from this Al-Jazera (or however you say it) anymore than I'd buy an Arabic cheese burger. I know they blew their nose on both. American pundits drive me nuts. Pundits with an accent make me wet the bed and stutter.

In observing President Obama, it appears to me that he wants to keep all options open. He's an actor who thinks he's a diplomat. As a result, he takes no stand and he loses credibility and respect from the very people who could make a difference. Although his non-commital demeanor is an attempt to alienate no one, it serves to weaken his leadership with everyone. In the end, no one will trust him, because he displays no loyalties.
