A Grand Mimosa and The State of The Union

Nothing But Trouble

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The election will soon be upon us and I think it prudent to review the "state" we are in before we enter the voting booth and pull the lever. Before we embark upon this endeavor, let's prepare a Grand Mimosa for breakfast. You will need 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier, 1 splash of orange juice and some champagne. Pour the Grand Marnier into a champagne flute. Fill almost to the top with champagne and top off with fresh orange juice. Sit back and sip your breakfast while I re-cap the events that have taken this nation by storm, threatening to "change" us from a capitalistic nation into a socialist nation.

Let's start with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Her contribution to our downfall is best summed up in her own words when she addressed the United Steelworkers this past Monday. "We're talking about addressing the disparity of income where the wealthy people (you Nancy) continue to get wealthier and some people are falling out of the middle class when we want to bring many more people into the middle class. But that disparity is not about wages alone, that disparity is about ownership and equity. It's all about fairness in this country." Madame Speaker this is America. We are not Greece, we are not France. We are Americans and we resent the notion that you, who represents the government, are charged with bringing us into the middle class. We can accomplish all that on our own, if you would get out of our way. But I suggest that if you, personally, want to see "fairness" rule the day, why not distribute your vast wealth among those who are not so fortunate. Give up your vineyards and empty your bank accounts. Then get back to us and tell us how it feels.

Thanks to Madame Speaker and President Obama and the Democrats in Congress, we the people, are now living with the following: government ownership of a major car company, government control over the banking industry, the advent of socialized medicine, global warming, expansion of the welfare system, cash for clunkers, trillions in debt, dangerous porous borders that the government refuses to protect, drug traffickers, human smugglers and murderers entering our country, the federal government suing the states for trying to protect themselves, massive voter fraud and voter intimidation, an attorney general who does not apply the law fairly, a President who thinks we are all too stupid to know what is good for us, a media that is unabashedly biased and pro massive government and representatives in Washington who feel comfortable calling people who are expressing their right of free speech unspeakable names. This is the true state of our union and unless we dramatically "change" the direction we are headed in our great nation will cease to exist. Unless we rid the government of those who wish to turn this into a nanny state, guiding our every move, controlling our every thought and action, what we once were will be a distant memory and our freedoms and our greatness will be gone. Our children will not remember what it was like to live freely and believe in the American dream. They won't believe our past and they will only know the bleakness of having complete government control of their lives. The push to succeed will be gone, why bother to work hard, why bother to build and create a bright future when the fruits of your labor will be redistributed to those that simply don't have the ability or drive to do it too.

This is not the nation I want my children and grandchildren living in. I want the America I was always proud of back. I want President Barack Obama's vision of America expunged from our nation and rejected once and for all. I am reminded of the words of James Madison when he said, "the ultimate authority... resides in the people alone." Let's remember that when we enter the voting booth...POP...

Bravo! I just saw a poll on TV that said over half of Americans no longer believe in the American dream. It is heart breaking to look at what you have written, every bit being the truth, and to wonder will this election even make a difference? If it goes well that will certianly help but Obama is able and probably will veto bills that would change things. We're stuck with him for a minimum of 2 more years. I want the America back we grew up with like most people. Rated up!

Good morning BPop!

This I know for sure - in the past I have certainly slacked in getting to the polls, but that will happen no more. I agree with you, I don't want my children to grow up in what Obama is trying to turn this nation into either!

Good morning Pamela,

I honestly believe that this is the America Obama and many others have envisioned for our country. If they can kill the American dream and turn us into dependent, pathetic little people who are grateful for a government that takes care of us then their mission is accomplished. i pray that never happens. See you at the bar. I'm buying drinks and food all night.

POP: Excellent!!!!! I am motivated to vote today, and maybe I will.

I heard last night that even if the Dems retain the house, they will replace Nancy Pelosias Speaker. Maybe just some of them are waking up, and noticing her evil ways.

Time to go to see the bartender. I'll buy today. Save me a seat next to Maven.....

Good morning Bpop,

This is an election of such importance that there really aren't words strong enough to express what it means. We really need to turn things around before it is too late. What shocks me is just how many people are comfortable with socialism. See you at the bar.

Hi POP. It is sad but true that I for one have felt defeated of late. I have begun to mourn the loss of what this country used to feel like for me. I grew up in the optimistic Reagan era, and while I do not identify 100% with Republicans (I am an independant spirit), I do feel like there is a vice tightening around our freedoms at the hand of the current adminstration. And. It. Freaks. Me. Out. I truly wish there was someone great out there, someone who speaks of moderation, fixing what's broken instead of throwing babies out with bathwater... I truly think that in a country this size, that moderation is the only way to go. If there are things that need changing (and we can all agree that there are) what is wrong with a thoughtful approach? It is frightening to think that major sweeping reform was slammed down our throats in the first half of this adminstration and considering how many pages it was, well, it seems to me that it would take at least a year and a half to write something that long, much less read it (I know, no one who voted yes actually read it). But this does not feel like the America I knew and loved. It feels almost as if the tentacles of something sinister are creeping into the bedroom at night while we sleep...It does not feel good anymore... But if I sit on my behind and let the waves wash over me, I will never forgive myself for letting my children and their children down. So, my voice will be heard in November. I will exercise my right to vote, and I hope that everyone joins together and sends a message to the President and his posse that WE LOVE this country and will not idly sit by and let them sh*& all over it...

Whew, I'm exhausted. 26 pounder and I will see you at the bar... The other one (finally) went back to school...

Very powerful hub today. Amazing! You summed everything up in a few sentences. Now, if you can show what is wrong in this country, how come so many people are clueless? How come people come to hear the Botox Beast speak and applaud her? Because they want the government to take care of them. They want their union to take care of them. They don't have to work hard to get a raise. The union negotiates it for them. People in unions cannot know what it means to work hard and be responsible. Not that some don't have dangerous jobs, but they are not rewarded on their own merit. I used to like San Francisco, but because of the Botox Beast, I can't stand the place. As much as I don't like Philly, I hope the Phillies stomp on the Giants. And as election day approaches remember to vote early and vote often. To the bar. BARTENDER............

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 19 months ago

Good morning jellio,

You must not let those in power now make you feel so hopeless that your vote seems a waste of time. That is what they are counting on. I agree with you, moderation is the key. it works well in most situations, but before we can get there we have to rid ourselves of the Pelosi's, the Reids, and the Obamas. Their vision for our nation is anti-American and they are no longer afraid to show it. A lot of damage has been done, but if we vote correctly we can stop some of it. See you at the bar. I'm buying.

Good morning taxlarry,

There are way too many people in our country both in and out of politics who find the socialist model very appealing. Most of them are slackers with their hands out and the others believe they will be the elite handing out the crumbs. See you at the bar. Vote often? Funny.

First, let me apologize for my absence, you know that pesky career of mine keeps interfering with my leisure time...LOL! If I were a lib, I'd just go on gov assistance and blog all day every day!!

As for the open socialism now being practiced by the dems, I am TIRED of this crap! Like you said, Pelosi and the members of congress are all QUITE rich. I don't understand how deep your hypocrisy must run for you to keep a straight face while bashing the rich contingent, of which YOU are member. I have no desire to help people who refuse to do anything to help themselves. However, if Pelosi and Barry would make the first step---give ALL their millions to charity---I would feel a bit less resentment about how desperately they want to redistribute my "wealth"!

For now though we need to start practicing, Nah nah nah nah, NAH NAH NAH NAH, Hey He ey Gooood- Bye!

Capitalism to socialism you’ve chronicled it well.

Let's examine what Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi meant when she addressed the United Steelworkers this past Monday; what was behind those flowery words of prose? She said; "we're talking about addressing the disparity of income where the wealthy people continue to get wealthier and some people are falling out of the middle class.” She meant; “listen and listen carefully you Dufusses, we have continue to prop up your Union as well as all your fellow unions at the expense of the rest of this economy. You only need to look as far as the General Motors and Chrysler takeover; your buddies fared pretty well didn’t they? Now get your lazy butts out there and work for us to get re-elected; whatever means you need to use; intimidation, bullying or downright violent behavior is justified. This is war and if we lose this country reverts back to Capitalism and you will go back to working for a living or losing your job!

She went on to say, “we want to bring many more people into the middle class but that is not about wages alone, is about ownership and equity. It's all about fairness in this country." She meant look Dumb Asses, there is no way to give you everything you want without taking it away from someone else. You are too dumb to realize this I know and you certainly won’t be able to figure it out (smile Nancy) but when you take it away from some and give it to others you lower the standard for everyone because the somes you take it away from finally quit producing themselves; ever Read Atlas Shrugged? Of course you haven’t you can’t read, that’s part of what we’re counting on! Anyway, by the time you figure it out it will be too late and we’ll be so firmly entrenched in our power there will be nothing you can do about it. So please don’t figure this out by November, all we need is 2 more years!

Good morning Pop! When I heard Pelosi's "inspirational" words, I thought exact same as you wrote: why not to start with you Nancy, why not distribute your wealth among those who are not so fortunate! I think that would be really revolutionary and a great proof of her believes. And she could inspire other wealthy hypocrites who so are against capitalism like Michael Moore for example. Great point Pop as usual!

Good morning Wanderlust,

I think all the socialist elites should jump on board. Michael Moore should redistribute all those annoying millions he made in our greedy country, Nancy should liquidate her vineyards and give the money to those who don't own vineyards and Hilliary should throw a few million in too. Sounds like a plan. See you at the bar.

Also, although she has taken millions from the United Farm Workers, her vineyard and her resort hotel doesn't hire any union workers.

POP, You are top on my list! I remember, as a child, when my family came to America, my parents were so humble and so proud to become Americans. The dreams of living in a free country where one can achieve the fruits of their labor and not be under the thumbs of the gov't made my father cry. I remember the sacrifices my parents made, their stuggle to learn the language and the honor of keeping the laws of this new nation. So many things have changed in 40 years, and even more so in the past few years that my father, bless his soul, now 80, fears of returning to the tyrany he sacrificed so much to escape. This election is not about party, it's about stopping everything dishonest and underhanded which is leading us to where Europe was years ago. I too want my grandchildren to know that life can be good, and that my vote helped make it so.

Sorry about that. This was an excellent post I stumbled here researching why many Christians are hypocrites and was stunned by the honesty of your blog.

I notice everyone stating the elections are a time of hope?I would question that concept. As an outsider I have seen many changes in your government and yet the end result remains the same? Everyone believed in yes we can only to find out you never could. That was reserved for the wealthy.

There are two types of people in this world there are Doves and there are Hawks. The doves represent 20% of the population. We are called highly sensitive people or em-paths we are likely to follow the path of Jesus. Although I am considered an atheist I can understand what this Icon represented. The hawks on the other hand are destructive creatures uncaring for anything except their own interests. They aggressively prey on the weak and destroy at will.

Today our world is ruled entirely by hawks. In a world full of accepted aggression this is not going to change.

it is my Opinion the Princess Diana and Mother Teresa were the last of the Doves that had a chance to change people.

Being a dove is not a highly regarded status today in fact we are pushed aside and preyed upon daily even though at one time we were the shamans the keepers of morality the thinkers.the ones who feels everyone's pain not just their chosen few.

Ironic you ask for critical thinkers to lead you but you salute those that only chose to hurt those thinkers.
