A Pretzel Salad and the Observer

Not Again!

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, October 20, 2011. Our beloved alien friend Scotty, the Observer, is back from a fact finding mission about a new proposal before the Senate. He wants to discuss some things with us but not on an empty stomach. In his travels he came across a recipe for a Pretzel Salad and he has respectfully requested that we prepare one this morning.

You will need 2 and 2/3 cup crushed pretzels, 1 large container of Cool Whip, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 small packages of strawberry jello, 3/4 cup butter, 2 and 1/2 cups boiling water, 8 ounces of cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and 1 pint frozen strawberries.

Cream togetheer 2 tablespoons sugar and butter. Add pretzels. Press mixture into a 9 X 13 baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Combine cream cheese and 1 cup of sugar. Add Cool Whip and spread mixture over cooled baked pretzels. Mix Jello and water and strawberries. Allow mixture to partially set and pour over cream cheese. Chill until firm. Gather up your breakfast and head for my home. Scotty and I will greet you at the door. He will relieve you of your Pretzel Salad and I will thank you with a delicious Banana Daiquiri. See you soon.

Welcome my adored earthling family. Sen. Tom Harkin a Democrat from Iowa has taken it upon himself to give education in your nation a facelift. He has produced an enormous proposal totaling a mere 860 pages that rewrites the No Child Left Behind program. Because I am capable of reading a document such as this in a few seconds I can tell you positively that it is chock full of new regulations and lots of red tape. Your local school districts would be buried under this paperwork and Washington D.C. will be able to maintain a a stranglehold on education K-12.

Sen. Harkin is pulling a" Nancy Pelosi". He wants your Congress to pass the legislation without investigation and discussion. In other words he doesn't want any one to read it. He is also pulling a "Hillary Clinton". He doesn't see the necessity of bringing in educators like teachers, principals and superintendents to see their reaction to the proposal. Remember when Hillary Clinton pulled together a group of people to discuss her healthcare proposals without iinviting any doctors onboard?

I must say you earthlings have a most peculiar way of doing business. Forgive me when I say it really is ass backwards! Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, feels the same way about this "bum's rush" to passage. I have to say I admire the Senator. He is going to slow down this process by introducing at least 100 amendments, one of which is the repeal of the entire program. He has the novel idea that actually reading the bill and discussing it is the way to go. I do too.

May I offer a piece of advice. I think that you should do all you can to kill this proposal. Write to your representatives and urge them to get the federal government out of the business of education. Let's face it, my earthling friends, their interference has produced dismal results. Your system is broken. Your children run the risk of ending up like the Wall Street protesters, sleeping on the ground and producing nothing but garbage.

Take back the reins of education. Don't let the federal government dictate standards. Let the states make their own decisions according to their needs. Your children deserve better than what they are getting. Get the long and intrusive arm of the federal government out of your children's lives. Their future depends upon it. NA, NU, NA, NU... SCOTTY...NU, NA, NU, NA...POP...

Pop and Scotty,

Great observations as usual this morning. This is exceptionally disturbing since Sen. Harkin can be unusually reasonable for a Democrat on occasion but I guess his quota of reasonability is exhausted.

Dear Tom,

Democrats are alloted a prescribed amount of "reasonableness". His ran out. See you at the Inn, Tom. I'll save you a seat.

Pop, please spare me the redundancy; Sen. Tom Harkin is Democrat therefore any document he is responsible for will no doubt be chocked full of new regulations and lots of red tape.

All Democrats want their legislation passed without investigation and/or discussion; its part of the smoke and mirror scam they continually run. As for Hillary Clinton; I remind you of her famous words to General Petreaus which are applicable in this case; Senator Harkin to believe your proposed bill is good for our schools requires a willing suspension of disbelief!

Scotty to understand our current political system requires one plain and simple truth; all Democrats are evil and all Republicans are slightly less evil! As Churchill once said, “No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” To paraphrase Churchill no one said Republicans were perfect but they are a hell of a lot better than those rotten stinking Democrats!

Good morning Patriot,

I was thinking , do you think we are too stupid to survive? See you at the Inn. I want to hear what you think. Pizza and beer on me.

Pop

As you know I rarely opine but once but you hit upon a line I’ve been using for years; we are rapidly becoming too dumb to govern ourselves. I believe Our Republic form of government requires a certain level of collective intellect which we are rapidly falling below. Yes, we are rapidly becoming too stupid to survive!

POP - It goes to show just like the wars on poverty, drugs, and everything else they appoint a Czar for we have met the enemy and it is us. We are unfortunately losing the war on stupid and it is time to put it back in the hands of our own local insurgents to get some wins, it's how we prevailed in the Revolutionary War, looks like we need one to do the same in this one.

All this War talk has made me thirsty so I'm heading to the Inn early Beer will be on me when you all get there. I'm saving seats Pino so get a move on!

This one will slide through all but unnoticed, Poppy. We'll look up one day and ask, "When did that become law?" "Oh it was back when they had the pajama party down on Wall Street, remember? member? Aw come on you remember, don't you?" Just another pile of steaming BS coming out of Washington proving once again that no one on the payroll up there is listening to the American people. WB

Pino Krisio 7 months ago

POP: Another bill that you expect to be read? Come on, POP, don't you think you're unreasonable? (only kidding)

The No Child Left Behind law is a farce. I know from personal experience. My grandson had an aid until last school year when they just didn't have enough money for the aid. This year he has no help again. So, will he be left behind? Most certainly. The school system is the best one in their area, and yet, no one cares. Back to the bill: 860 pages? You bet there are a lot of hidden agendas in that one. Herman Cain is right: No bill should be longer than three pages.

I'm so worked up, I've got to get to the bar. Hmrjmr is saving me a seat. I'm so excited.....

taxlarry 7 months ago

It is coming to the point where our elected officials do not give a damn about us, the people. I am pretty tired of hearing about 860 page and 2000 page bills that no one reads but they pass them anyway. Congress is not what the Founding Fathers envisaged. It is nothing more than the old politburo. They all suck and Obaumma, Reid, Pelosi, Harkin, Schumer et al suck the most. Meet you all at the bar. BARTENDER..............

This is another federal power grab and violation of the Tenth Amendment...show me where the Constitution grants Congress any authority over education. It does not!

We, the People are going to have to limit their power and take our country back from Washington, because the Courts sure as hell won't do it!

bp - I like that '100 amendments to the bill" idea of Sen. Rand Paul. More power to him and the other Republicans who are intelligent and reasonable. Can't think of any Democrats though to add to that list.

Morning POP...With a government full of lawyers ( with apologies to Jamie ) what do you expect..? They love to fill up reams of paper with legalese BS that no one understands or has the time to scrutinize...

Lets take Herman Cain's idea calling for a 3 page max bill submission and bring it into the real world...Any bill submitted by congress must have an addendum not exceeding three pages, that plainly and concisely spells out the full intent of the bill, point by point...Then post this addendum on the Net for scrutiny by citizens before congressional consideration...then let the debate begin...

Beam me up, Scotty...The War of the Stupids is going to get ugly...

See you at the tavern, Pop...Pino is entertaining tonight with her Sam Cooke rendition of " Wonderful World " ( Don't know much about History...Don't know much about Biology...)...Larry

You would think they would have learned a lesson about reading a bill before passing it, but the the desire to deceive is accepted by many. I like the 100 amendment bill as hopefully it will be eliminated. I think the National Education Department should be closed and the money sent to each state. Scotty is right on top of things as usual and I have to say thanks.

Dear Pino,

People have to be held accountable for the lousy education our kids are getting. Education has gone down the tubes in direct proportion to the amount of interference from the federal government. Does anyone ever learn anything? I feel the same way you do. I will be arriving at the Inn early.

Scotty,

When talking about this stupid bill, an old Bob Dylan song "You Ain't Goin No Where" comes to mind. If my wonderful sister can let you go, I could use you for a few days out here reading some bills for me as time is an issue. I may give her a call and see if the both of you want to visit the desert and get this stuff sorted out. Thanks little buddy. Tell sis hi!

Dear drbj,

Democrats don't read! Democrats don't believe that reading is fundamental. Democrats never heard of the Founding Fathers. Democrats think the Constitution is an outdated piece of paper. Democrats are gumming up the works! See you at the Inn. Don't bring a Democrat.

Good morning cjv,

This has been going on for decades and yet, a light bulb about the problem has never really turned on. Perhaps we are now too stupid to recognize a problem that is right in front of us, let alone solve it.
