A Swiss Quiche and the Observer

Arab Winter

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, October 27, 2011. Scotty, the Observer, has just returned from a sweep of the Middle East and he is quite distressed. When Scotty is upset he eats and our job is to prepare his breakfast and listen to his observations.

This morning we will be creating a Swiss Quiche. You will need 1-9 inch deep dish frozen pie crust, 1/2 pound bulk pork sausage, 3 ounces shredded swiss cheese, 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons chopped onion, 3 tablespoons chopped mushrooms, 1 and 1/2 tablespoons soft cream cheese, 3 eggs, 1 cup half and half, 1/2 teaspoon paprika and salt and pepper to taste.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Defrost pie crust at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Cook sausage and break into small chunks. Add cream cheese and Dijon. Sir well and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, cream, onions and mushrooms. Spread sausage mixture in the bottom of the pie crust. Sprinkle Swiss cheese over top and press down gently. Pour egg mixture over the top and sprinkle paprika, salt and pepper.

Place the quiche in the oven on the bottom rack and bake for 15 minutes. Lower oven temperature to 325 degrees and cook for 30 minutes more until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the quiche sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Bring your quiche over to my house. Scotty and I will greet you at the door. Scotty will relieve you of your quiche and you can relieve me of my tray of Bloody Marys. See you soon.

Welcome by dear, most respected, earthling friends. I remember the joy that spread through the nation at the prospect of an Arab Spring. We all imagined a new dawn in the Middle East. Our hearts and minds were allied with the people protesting in the streets. They yearned for freedom, or so we thought. They were ready to embrace democracy, or so we thought. We romanticized the moment and infused it with our own love of freedom.

Now that we can step back a bit, it is time to see the reality of the "Arab Spring". The killing of Gadhafi will surely lead to the institution of Sharia law in Libya. There is very little surprise here. I ask you where is the victory? This alien thinks it's a hollow one. I am quite sure your president knows that too.

Mistakes are being made all over the place. Your president has announced that your troops will be leaving Iraq by the holidays. I am quite sure the Iranians are licking their lips as we speak at the prospect of an unprotected Iraq. The Obama administration knows quite well what will happen when the troops leave. To leave without at least leaving some troops in Iraq is a tragic mistake and the repercussions will fall at your president's doorstep.

Chaos has emerged from the ashes of the Arab Spring. Egypt is going the way of radical Islam. Tunisia is heading that way too. Your president can falsely claim victories in foreign policy but as the situation in the Middle East worsens the truth will become painfully clear to you and the rest of the world. Radical Islam poses a massive threat to the stability of the region and to pretend otherwise is suicide.

The bloom is off the rose and the chill of winter is sweeping in. You really need to put someone in the White House who understands the danger... NA, NU, NA, NU...SCOTTY...NU, NA, NU, NA...POP...

Pop and Scotty,

First things first, congratulations on the choice of breakfast. The Swiss Quiche sounds scrumptious!

Second, your observation on Arab Spring transitioning to winter is appropriate. When cold hard reality hit us in the face out childish spring-like wishes dissipate with the bitterness of broken promises.

Good morning Tom,

The breakfast is delicious and your beautiful description of a very sad situation is appreciated. See you at the Inn. I'll bring you a quiche.

POP: There has already been some backlash about the troops leaving by the end of the year. But Wait! All is fine, because Bush signed the deal, and Obama has no other choice but to honor it. What a load of crap! Anyway, he is just letting it happen, so it becomes his, even though Obama would never see it that way. This is why we need a person like Cain in office - his policy would be that those who are our friends get aid and protection - those who are our enemies - no money! I like his ideas. Obama must be dancing in the WH with the way the Mid Eastern countries are headed.

I am headed for the bar - I haven't seen Scotty for a while - save me a seat....

This president is an idiot. Anyone with half a brain knew that these arab uprisings would lead to radical islamist governments. The radicals want to take over the world. Bring Scotty to the bar tonight. We must discuss this with him further. BARTENDER...............

Good morning BPOP! Just stopped in for a bite to eat and love the Quiche. I know I've been hanging low. Been trying to get my life bearable again after being traumatized in the process of moving to Texas. Won't go into that here because I'm never sure who is following me around.

The world is still a mess as Scotty so aptly points out. Obama remains clueless and constantly on the campaign trail. The political landscape in Washington remains a disaster zone but have "hope." We're about to maybe get some change we can believe in. In the meantime hold onto any spare change you have. It may come in handy.

I'll be back on the scene as soon as I have a true home again. I still read what y'all are serving up but my mind isn't up to writing as I rearrange my existence. See ya soon.

I think even "I" could make this quiche. I'd just have to switch to turkey sausage. :)

Personally, I think Obama is thrilled at the prospect of massive sway towards radical islamic government.

I think he's HOPING for it.

Could you please post directions to the Inn?

Hi POP lovely breakfast (I am sure Scottie enjoyed it) and cocktails (thank goodness) they seem to make the news a little bearable these days. The people in the middle east have been fighting against each since time began. You can't change beliefs and mindsets that have been instilled for a millennium in a couple of decades. We now can only sit back and watch. While we got rid of two of the worst terrorists recently, did we really think there wouldn't be someone as equally horrifying to take their place?

I will be at the bar later save me a seat.

Dear Pino,

When you have a president who sat in a church for 20 years with a leader and mentor who hated America, is it any surprise that you end up with a president like Obama? The Middle East is shaping up to be one huge block of nations that hate Israel and hate the U.S. Again, where is the surprise? See you at the Inn.

Dear taxlarry,

I think Obama knew it and liked the plan. See you at the bar. I'm bringing a quiche or two.

Dear Frog Prince,

He's alive!! I am so happy you dropped in for breakfast. We all miss you at the breakfast table. Frankly, our situation hasn't improved at all since you took a break. Let's hope 2012 changes that. If you can't get to the Inn, don't worry. I will mail you a quiche!

Dear femmeflashpoint,

I agree with you. This is the kind of "change" he was looking for. As far as directions to the Inn are concerned, just close your eyes, click your heels and you're there! I'll save you a seat.

Dear Tammy,

There are plenty of terrorists to go around. The trick is to keep them out of our country! Securing our borders would be a great start, don't you think? See you at the Inn. I'm bringing enough quiche for everyone.

Scotty; regarding the joy that spread through the nation at the prospect of an Arab Spring; well I for one who actually pays attention to events that happen and not what this Regime says knew we were prematurely celebrating. They say those that are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it; well I remember the joy that spread through Mudvill when The Mighty Shaw of Iran Struck out, only to be replaced by the Ayatollah Khomeini and look what form of theocracy resides in Iran these days coupled with that mad man Ahmadinejad. Arab Spring my ass; more like the Winter of our Discontent!

The foolish idealist imagined a new dawn in the Middle East; the informed knew the door had just swung wide open for the Muslim Brotherhood!

Mubarak’s overthrow led way to the Muslim Brotherhood; Gadhafi will surely lead to the institution of Sharia law in Libya. Hello, is it not better to allow a tyrant that leaves you alone to remain in power than to participate in their overthrow only to have them replaced with a Jihadist group hell bent on the destruction of Western Civilization?

As for the leader of this bungling Regime announcing to the world our troops will be leaving Iraq by the holidays; what do you expect from an idiot playing Commander N Chief. The Iranians are licking their lips waiting to swoop down on an unprotected Iraq. The Iranians are Shiites and the Iraqi’s Sunni’s so they hate each other almost as much as they hate us!

History will prove this Village Idiot hasn’t a clue regarding foreign policy or perhaps he does. Perhaps this is all by design and he is orchestrating the fall of Western Civilization and the issuing in of the next great Muslim Caliphate!

Dear Patriot,

I can't help feeling that each time a country says they will embrace fundamental Islam, Obama starts dancing around the Oval Office. Soon Michelle will be sporting a burka. See you at the Inn.

Obama failed us in Iraq, because he is a weak leader who is scorned by the rest of the world. The greatest nation on Earth is leaving Iraq with its tail between its legs.

It's a national disgrace.

sheila b. Level 4 Commenter 7 months ago

Saudi Arabia sets our midEast policy - that's become apparent. We see what Obama is doing and it makes no sense. Yet if we factor in the deviousness of the Saudis, we can see a bit of their plan. Saudi Arabia hates and fears Iran, so why would they want Iraq left unprotected? Why would they want Iran to feel free to attack Iraq? Ahhh - wouldn't that be an excuse to destroy Iran?

The majority of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. binLaden himself was Saudi. Yet what did we do? Attack Afghanistan and Iraq. Meanwhile the Saudis have bankrolled the building of hundreds of mosques in the US, have opened more and more of their muslim indoctrination schools, while Bush held the Princes hand and Obama bowed to him. So you're right, we need a President who will see the truth and stop acting on the Saudis behalf.

Dear Will,

What a sickening slap in the face to all our troops who gave so much of themselves in Iraq. They have every right to say, "What for?". I'll see you at the Inn and save you a seat.

Dear sheila,

I have never understood our actions, but now with Obama in office, I understand them even less. I do feel that Israel is in trouble. With the fundamentalists taking over things look very bad for our ally. See you at the Inn.

If Obama leaves Iraq completely, he will be handing that country over to Iran. Of course he knows that. Hmmm.......

You are sadly so right Scotty (Pop) about your factual information here. It breaks my heart because I like you - think that Iraq just might fall. I hope they are strong enough to withstand Al Queida. When my husband worked closely with their government - they were very focused and very willing to be trained and form a strong government. We will see, won't we? Spectacular Hub Scotty (Pop)
