Akoori and the Arrogance of the Powerful

Prove It!

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, February 9, 2011. When you are in a position of power it becomes rather easy to make false statements with the expectation that no one will dare question you. We've seen this happen time and time again in our personal lives and of course in politics. Whether it's because we don't care to cause a scene or we are being politically correct or we are fearful of reprisal, we let the lies stand. It's maddening, of course, and this morning I really feel the need to bring up two recent examples of this practice.

Before we begin, let's prepare an Indian scrambled egg dish called Akoori. You will need 4 eggs, 2 medium onions, 2 tablespoons chopped green coriander, 2 finely chopped chillies, 1 finely chopped tomato, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt and 3 tablespoons butter. Heat butter in pan and fry onion until soft. Add coriander, chillies and tomato and mix well. Cook for about 3 minutes and remove from fire. Break eggs into a bowl and beat until well blended. Add to onion mixture, mix well, add salt and return to the fire. Cook slowly, stirring constantly, until cooked through and soft. Invite someone over to share your dish. Prepare some Bloody Mary's as we examine just two recent examples of how we were lied to.

During Bill O'Reilly's interview with President Obama, the president looked straight at the Fox news host and said that he didn't raise taxes once in the last two years. He appeared to be so sure of his assertion and so proud. Honestly, if it were physically possible for him to pat himself on the back, he would have done so. Sorry, Mr. President, according to Americans for Tax Reform you signed at least two dozen tax increases into effect. Let's start with the first increase. You signed a federal tax hike on tobacco into effect a mere fifteen days into your presidency. The health care overhaul imposes whopping taxes on Americans if they fail to purchase insurance. Oh, remember the tax imposed on medical device manufacturers? No, then how about the higher tax on withdrawals from health savings accounts. Oh, wait there is a surtax on investment income, an excise tax on comprehensive health insurance plans and my all time personal favorite, a tax on indoor tanning salons. I could go on and on, but instead I am quite sure you get the idea. It was easy for President Obama to tell us all that not only didn't he raise taxes, he lowered them because he believed he could say whatever he wanted. After all he's the President, O'Reilly is, well O'Reilly and we are chopped liver!

Moving along, let me give just one more example of how easy it is for the powerful to change the facts if they so desire. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently declared that President Obama had done more for Israeli security than any other presidency. Maybe she was just trying to throw her husband under the bus with this whopper, but whatever her motivation she said it. I am happy to report that she was asked to provide an example of how the Obama administration has ensured Israeli's security but her response was typical of people in her position. She said, with a straight face, " I think the facts speak for themselves." Will somebody please tell the Israelis about this, because it appears that they are not feeling the love?

I do not appreciate being lied to. I feel it is safe to say that the American people do not appreciate being lied to. We are smarter than this administration gives us credit for and it is time to prove it. Let's ask the tough questions of our representatives in Washington. Let's hammer home our concerns and be relentless in the pursuit of truth. We cannot sit politely at the sidelines nodding our heads when we know we are being treated like fools by people who truly feel they owe us nothing. "We" deserve better and "they" deserve to hear about it...POP...

POP, I do not appreciate the lies either. It's just like the old joke how do you know if Obama is lying, it's when his lips are moving. And as for Clinton, I am not sure if any president has treated Israel worse than Obama. It is difficult to believe what any politician says because so often we find out they are lying. Truth and integrity seem to be missing in this administration. I have written letters to Senators and Representatives that seem to be a waste of my time, particularly with Sen. Nelson. It seems the only way we can get their attention is by a large group effort and sometimes that doesn't even work. I sure don't have the answers other than sticking together and making sure we vote them out of office in 2012.

Good morning Pamela,

I think the key is not to give up, because I believe that is what "they" want to see happen.I would love to see someone who is in a position to question the president, stick to his guns and keep pounding away. O'Reilly didn't do that and it is a shame. See you at the Inn.

POP: Hillary spoke the truth when she responded that the Facts speak for themselves. The fact is that Obama has done nothing for Israel. Again, Obama was correct when he stated that he did not raise taxes once in the last two years. He actually raised them about 15 times.

Get it? They both spoke the truth!!!!!!!! No Lies Here!!

There is one word that the criminals in Washington do not understand. That word is TRUTH. Obumma is a liar as far as his not raising taxes and Cinton is a liar about stating this president has done more for Israel than any other president. The only good thing he has done for Israel is that he has not gone there. You are right, BPOP, they think they can say anything. If O'Reilly had a pair he would have pushed back and told Obumma of the taxes he has raised just as you mentioned above. I lost any respect I may have had for him as he chickened out. Ever notice how politicians try to get their point across by throwing out a percentage? Like, 75% of the people like health care. Where did 75% come from? They make it up. They feel if they drop a percentage on us, we think they know what they are talking about. So, the TRUTH be damned. LIAR, LIAR YOUR PANTS ARE ON FIRE. They are all liars. And you can quote me. If you need me, I'll be at the bar. BARTENDER................

Morning POP...Watch what they do, not what they say...Netanyahu did not appreciate being lectured to by a foreign policy novitiate, especially on matters concerning the West Bank and Gaza Israeli policies...Clinton has studiously avoided the Middle East and has dismissed the Cairo uprisings as " insignificant "...

In March of 2010, Obama walked out of an inconclusive meeting with Netanyahu, opting for dinner alone, and leaving the Israeli negotiators to fend for themselves with lower-level White House staffers...This was almost as insulting as the back door exit forced on the Dalai Lama earlier...Some friend, some ally...

Pop, I have had in the past, the opportunity to join some very wealthy people, for trips to dinner and mucking around NYC in 40ft limousines, where 3 of us would have done better in a cab, for conservation. We are going to be in this limo for 5 minutes, and would I like a drink? No, but they had one and at our destination, the flashers go on the driver just sits and the bla bla bla girls sit and finish their drink while who gives a crap blocking traffic. I saw the nod and the driver bails out comes around and opens the door and I get out last. Cabbies cussing the driver and flipping birds the whole deal. We were out for dinner and seafood was preplanned right down to a corner booth me being seated back to the wall, the waiter confirms I'll be having lobster, schreech drag the needle across the record I told mister waiter to give us 10 minutes and bring me a menu then. I had been in the influence of dirty rich before just not with them, like the limo driver out reading a book or just driving circles snagging cash fairs I sat in a helo smoking and waiting for their trip back to where ever they wished. I didn't give two shits as 100 plus per 30 minutes sitting or flying made absolutely no difference to me. The restaurant gig was set up before it ever started, I never sit unless my back is to the wall, my restaurant rule number one, then the lobster and the waiter knowing who I was, I didn't like it one bit, and our hostess could buy and sell most any congress member many, many times over, I had just had a drink in a 8th floor home the whole floor, one person living there, I'd been to the keys and stayed 5 star in a hotel owned by these people. The mere fact a phone call could be placed and a restaurant of this size and rating could be bought to accommodate a redneck like me pissed me off. First blocking people with places to be to showing up and getting the coat and tie waived to a mafia seat in a corner wall where I could see everything going on and a big platter with everyone's meal on it arriving before the waiter returned with the menu, I was freaked out at dollars and what people like Sorros could buy. I was uncomfortable and ready to excuse my self then hail a cab back to Park and pack a bag and jump a jet to O.C. California. I was in culture rage and it took two meals, the first was down in Grand Central Station at a high buck sea food place again with the same Aunt of my then wife. Who was so out of touch that when we had a conversation about my business ventures and particularly how I beat the tax man, this 300 million dollar widow was amazed, I bet she never signed a check much less balanced an account in her life. I then realized the type of person who would have jumped out a window over a financial crash like the last one, they were put in a position of what to do? I think this Lady would just step on board her jet and go to Spain or some place she had another multi million stash in another currency, the last depression taught the rich how to cloak themselves in a web of safety nets. At any rate I had to apologize to my hostess for not being more gracious for her generosity and spent the afternoon trying to explain to her what a poor boy was and how we looked at things, God, Honor, Family and country. I showed her my lower legs and tried to explain that it was people who lived in her realm that did this to me, I don't think she ever understood. We curse the rich every day and it's like a car cutting me off when I'm riding one of my Harleys, I run them down in a fit of rage and curse them, in return I get a blank stare. I stopped doing it when I realized they had never seen me and what happened was beyong theit ability to "get" they were insulated from it, just as many of the uber rich are insulated from the world and don't understand what they do has an impact of severity of great weight to the poor man. I'm ready for a tray of Bloody Marys, to the bar! 50

The grating arrogance of politicians who think they know best despite our protests, is the source of real outrage.

I've spoken to these people many times, and with few exceptions, their condescension is blatant and maddening. I’ve walked away feeling like I had just been patted on the head and scratched behind the ears.

I don't think Obama believes he is lying so much as he thinks we are too stupid to understand that he is taking care of us little people so we can continue to cling to our Bibles and guns.

And he's right. There are now more Americans who want government to take care of them than there are Americans who want to be free. Otherwise, no Democrat would ever be elected.

Well I don’t know about you but I am a proud member of that far right coalition and resent the hell out of Mr. Smug-Butt. Of course old Barrackie Boo lied saying he didn't raise taxes once in the last two years and did his new found buddy old Billy Boy call him on it; nooooooooooooo!

The federal tax hike on tobacco, that’s not a tax, it’s merely a users fee. Old Billy let that one slide.

The health care Obamanation which certainly imposes whopping taxes on Americans if they fail to purchase insurance as well as stifles any hiring; oooooooppppppps that’s onother tax old Billy Boy let him get away with.

The tax imposed on medical device manufacturers; huuuuuuummm seems old softy Bill let that one go also.

The higher tax imposed on withdrawals from health savings accounts and the surtax on investment income, the excise tax on comprehensive health insurance plans and the indoor tanning salons tax; common Pop; do you expect Billy Boy to catch all of these. He’s too busy serving up soft balls!

Does this guy sleep in the rose garden when he is not appointed to office? We are seeing the frays of separation when the majority of the governed no longer agree with those who are governing...it is not a pretty thing and the nasty truth is the governors care little for what we think...it only muddies the water around their feet. If questioned too closely she can always fall back on the ever-popular "I misspoke". She meant to say, "Obama has done more harm for Israeli security than any other president.

Voted up, useful, and awesome--particularly because you got this "out there" before I could get around to documenting everything.

The Big Lie, of course, has been around as long as...well, at least since the time of the Pharaohs, and it's a sure bet they didn't invent the practice but stole it from others.

I remember reading about one of the Egyptian leaders, back in the good old days of swords and spears, no Internet, and literacy limited to priests & scribes. Said Pharaoh sent his army off to conquer--whatever, the Hittities or somebody. His army was squashed like a bug.

So did he tell his subjects the truth? NOT! No troops came back home? Why, they were all busy occupying the new territory! Hittites even demanded--and got--one of his daughters as a hostage to his good behavior? Why, she was off ruling the new land!

Took historians something like 3,000 years to discover the falsehood.

Too bad for Obama--this ain't exactly the time of the pyramids, and some of us can even read. Even in Egypt, for that matter, judging by the current situation there....

Yesterday I watched Matt Lauer's interview on The Today Show with the First Lady, Michele Obama. I noted her attitude with Matt during a discussion about the changes evolving regarding public school lunches. She attributes these positive changes to her programs to end obesity in American children. Matt, lightheartedly, mentioned his apprenhension at abolishing his children's menu favorite, "tater tots". Mrs. Obama offered the comment "Do you want your children to eat tater tots", complete with crinkle nosed disapproval in her question. Matt, without hesitation stated, "I want them!" As the interview continued, Matt asked Mrs. Obama about the criticism of the dichotomy of her ideas for healthy diets for Americans and her Super Bowl party food choices. She then covered her bases by proposing healthy moderation in eating choices. Later, she admitted to being addicted to "french fries". Although, a separate issue from your topic, I feel it illustrates the current menu in the White House...the menu that the average American family sees is not what's on the White House table. The way this administration see's the issues is not what the average American experiences. Apparently, the White House believes American's just don't get it...they just don't understand what's good for them...I believe that the Obama's don't get it or don't want to. I don't believe they have ever experienced the dire poverty or struggle to put a meal on the table. Until they truly "care enough" to understand the basics, there will remain a vast divide, which will continue to affect governmental blindness in seeing what is in the best interest of Americans and their actions and choices will uphold the adadge "Do what I say, not what I do".

The recent controversy over welfare and addicts caused much dissention regarding cutting assistance to those recepients who drug test positive with many concerned that the children of drug addicts will go unfed, un-housed and uncared for. Tobacco use, although legal, is an addiction, one that was once advertised heavily by the industry and promoted in Hollywood as "cool". Now, remaining smokers are pariah's although the habit is legal, and will pay through the nose through exorbitant taxation, because it affects healthcare costs. If the First Lady decides tator tots, candybars and soda are unacceptable in the American diet, look out. Soon, the freedom to choose what we eat and drink, good or bad, will be banned through taxation and soon we will be forced to eat, drink and live the "Obama way". We will lose all personal choice. I guess we should "fall down on our knees" and "thank our lucky stars" that we have so many genuises leading us by the noses down the yellow brick road...not me. Keep cookin', Pop! Keep us thinking and well nourished. We need to keep our strength up to see the truth and fight the good fight. Awesome truth

Sam,

You've got some of it right and some of it wrong from where I stand. I personally don't hate Obama. I took quite a beating from my conservative friends for keeping an open mind to this president. I found him very human on the outside, but he started losing me with health care, (antother endless debate) and the downward slide was propeled by his arrogance and whinning about inheriting his problems.

It's not about liberals bad conservatives good. Dude, our leaders suck. Democrats and Republicans. I'll admit George Bush was no George Washington but Obama's not doing a very good job either. I honestly don't see a whole lot of difference. Afghanistan's still a money maker for a few, while draining the rest. When it comes to Iraq, Obama just finished the last paragraph of George Bushes's book. The economy? Obama grabbed the Bush lead, then pied it.

No sir, this is a lot bigger than liberals bad conservatives good. Pop just calls it like she see's it, and she gets it right about 99% of the time. She cooks a mean breakfast to boot. Sorry to see ya go over the liberal/conservative thing. Wrap youself around this .. "American people good .. American politicians bad."

Great job on this! I think it is getting harder for them to get away with their lies because of the 'net. It is really easy to research things that happened and were said whether last week or several years ago. And, it helps to have articles like this where people are pointing out specific lies... like about the taxes - oh! - and ending the torture, and pulling out of the middle east, and transparency... the list goes on and on!

Dear Angela,

Yes, the list goes on and on, but what I can't stand is the fact they the "liars" are never held accountable. They never have to face the American people and admit the lie. It is maddening.
