Apple Pan-Cakes and a Fairy Tale

Transparency?

Good morning beloved breakfastpoppers. Today is Friday, October 8, in the year of our kingdom 2010. There is a big buzz in the kingdom this morn. A group of health care organizations are urging Congress to withhold money from the new health care law for the office of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Center is headed by Dr. Donald Berwick and we all remember how controversial a figure he is. Let's get up to date on what's going on. Even those among us who are not of Medicare age surely have a loved one who is. After we prepare our morning repast let us meet by the wooden bridge that crosses the river of Dreams. I will be waiting on the other side with enough Bloody Marys for one and all.

This morning we will be preparing Apple Pan-Cakes. This recipe serves six people, so come with a huge appetite or a willingness to share. For the batter you will need 6 eggs, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 and 1/2 cups milk, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 teaspoon vanilla. For the topping you will need 4 apples, peeled and sliced, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup butter, 1/4 cup raisins and a wheel barrel to haul all these ingredients. Combine dry ingredients for batter and add liquids. Blend until nice and smooth. Melt butter in hearth in a 9' by 13' baking dish. Remove from hearth and pour apples, raisins and brown sugar into hot butter, stir until apples are coated and sugar is melted. Return dish to hearth and add batter. Bake for 20 minutes at 425 degrees. Cut "pan-cake" into serving pieces. Pack them up and head for our meeting place.

Welcome, dear friends and neighbors. Six different health care groups have sent a letter to Congress concerning Dr. Donald Berwick. The good doctor has been a strong advocate for the rationing of health care and has stated quite emphatically that humane health care must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poor and less fortunate. The health care groups have asked members of Congress to withhold Dr. Berwick's funds until he explains just what he has in miind for us.

This sounds like a perfectly reasonable request. Why I am sure you all remember when King Teleprompter promised us transparency. Thus far the only transparent thing is that the King hasn't lived up to his promise. For shame King Teleprimpter, for shame!

Dr. Berwick controls a massive budget, bigger than all of the neighboring Kingdoms combined. He has an extraordinary amount of power and he should be asked to come before the people of the Kingdom and answer some questions about his intentions. We do know that the good Doctor can wax eternal about his love for the British system. He has stated that he is "romantic about the National Health Service". I don't know about you but his enthusiasm for Britain's system leaves me cold.

Dr. Berwick has been very closemouthed about his plans. Keep in mind these are his plans for us and our loved ones. King Teleprompter (he won't) and Congress should make sure that Dr. Berwick goes before Congress and the Kingdom and answers some questions.

It's the "transparent" thing to do...POP...

Transparency is such a lonely word

Everything is so untrue

Transparency is hardly ever heard

But it's mostly what we need from you!

You are so right, accountability should be paramount. This is too serious to "buy a pig in a poke" and the questions asked should be given direct answers. Great hub Pop.

Good morning Fiddleman,

It is so lovely to see you at the breakfast table so early. We really need and deserve to see what this man is all about. He has been given way too much power and we had better see what he has in mind. Psst..It's great to have you back. See you at the Innl ater. I'm buying.

Pop,

I think the good Dr. Berwick is a decendant of Dr.Josef Mengele. Adolph Hitler's murderer and torcherer in chief!!!!!!!!

Does King Teleprompter and Dr. Burwick have a similar relationship?

I'll be at the Inn and I'm buying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning Tom,

I'll say one thing, Obama is doing a good job of keeping Dr. Berwick away from Congress. I suppose he wants to keep the controversial doctor hidden from public view as long as possible. See you at the Inn. We'll start the week-end off on a good note. I'm buying again.

Good morning, BPop! I'll admit, I haven't heard of Dr. Berwick - thank you for educating me once again this morning. I'll be sure to keep my ears open...

Morning Pop,

First, your recipe for breakfast sounds quite tasty.

Obama seems to keep making end runs around congress appointing people whenever or wherever he chooses without any input from congress let alone a vote. Dr. Berwick is certainly not the person I want in that position and even if he answers questions, will they be the truth? I do not want anything like England's health care in the US either. We all have great hopes for Nov. but many things are out of congress's hands.

See you at the inn. I'll bring snacks.

breakfastpop Hub Author 19 months ago

Good morning Lily Rose,

You should keep your ears open, but unless he is forced to, Dr. Berwick won't be speaking to anyone. See you at the Inn.

Good morning Pamela,

Dr. Berwick is "in love" with the British system. These are his words not mine and unless he is somehow forced to answer questions from Congress, mum will be the word. I have grave concerns about the upcoming elections. Voter fraud, thanks to the unions, is off the charts. See you at the Inn. I'm buying all night.

Just another circumvention of congess and the Constitution by our idiot-in-chief. Every day that I hear what he does (or doesn't do) and how he is trying to make this country a socialist state I want to strangle the a#$holes who voted him into office. It's an outrage that Obumma and the marxist in congress are getting away with how they a scresing up the country. Unfortunately, some pinko-commie judge in Michigan ruled the health care bill was constitutional. Who paid him off? At least the weekend is near. I don't read the papers or listen to news on the weekend. After all, I do need a break from that c#$p. I am off to the inn. INNKEEPER..............

POP: Dr. Berwick does have too much power, and I finally realized what Obama does every day. He is in charge of keeping all of his appointees away from Congress. That is probably more than a full time job, with 535 egos trying to make a name for themselves.

Well, with you and Tom buying, I'm getting to the Inn early. Save me a seat....

Pop, if we stop and take a look at numbers, then force congress to live under our rules they will sing a different tune. Check out these numbers:

The median age of currently serving Senators is 63 years 254 days.

As of October 7, 2010, 4 senators are in their 80s, 23 are in their 70s, 34 are in their 60s, 30 are in their 50s, 8 are in their 40s, and 1 is in his 30s.

If forced to take Medicare like the average citizen they'll sing our tune. Since most are 50 years old or better when they take office, it will effect them directly as well. I'm down for Bloody Marys until dark! 50

Pop

We were promised TransParency and that’s what we’re getting. Dissect the word; to the King (and by the way it’s good to be the King) TransParency means he’s the parent for us all; Trans; a Latin noun or prefix, meaning "across" or "beyond"; Parent the authority figure as in Father Knows Best. Thus the King promised he would become the Father to us all and that’s exactly what he’s doing; HE AND ONLY HE KNOWS WHAT’S BEST FOR US CHILDREN.

In order for the King to administer to we mere mortal subjects he must have capable assistants who are willing to make the hard choices; Dr. Berwick is such an assistant. He will administer the King’s Rationing; you live you die; you’re too old for the surgery; you can’t have the Kemo we’ve reached our allotment for this month; you know choices like that. After all it’s not fair that America’s survival rate from so many otherwise fatal diseases is so far out of line with the rest of the world; especially the King’s home country Kenya! He wanted Dr. Jack Kevorkian for this post but at 82 years of age he was deemed too old!

Sung to the tune of that’s Amore’

When your wallet runs dry and then you start to cry Blame Obama

And your country blows up so you wonder what’s up Blame Obama

Terrorist will run free amongst you amongst me Blame Obama

They will saw off your head scream out Infidels Dead Blame Obama!

Old Doc Berwick....The new Doctor Death...Rationer Of Life. I have a friend who was advised by his eye doctor that if he had any surgeries, etc. that he was putting off that he would be prudent to get it done soon. This doctor was convinced that insurance companies will already start the process of "prioritizing" healthcare an procedures in the coming year with those the over 60 age groups going to the back side of the line. One example he used was cataract surgery. Apparently under Obamacare, you can only get it done on one eye and receive any benefit. The rationale is that you only need one eye to see. Thus, the second eye is on you. Get ready for a bunch of pissed-off baby boomers with guns! If any of this stuff is even half true, we are coming up on some shameful times thanks in great part to the lowly King and his cohearts in Congress. America has unleashed a beast and we must put it in chains before it is too late! How about a Bloody Mary now! WB

BPop: You always amaze me. I'm sorry I am so wordy but it takes a while to "blow wind up your skirt" and respond to your hubs! And I mean that in the nicest way, really. I'm not joking! I do hope you know your efforts are not wasted on hubpages. I believe you change the minds of people who might be teetering (politically) or even grasping at straws and America is lucky to have you, literally, in their court, whether they know it or not.

What are the chances Berwick will ever go in front of Congress, I wonder? And if we don't win the Senate and the House in November, will it even matter? Isn't it sad to even have to ask the question because it is a legitimate one? This administration leaves more questions than answers on any given topic. "You'll have to read it to know what's in it." (Nancy Pelosi) If that doesn't go against one of the biggest mantras in America, then I don't know what does! Pop, you come from a family of lawyers. I can only imagine what a family get together sounds like if you bring up that topic! And these people are leading our country. But we have to read it to know what's in it.

Okay, in case you are wondering, I keep a port-a-potty next to my desk in the event I have these "conversations" because really, the whole ideo of sign it and read it later makes me vomit! Damn those bodily functions yet again! Are you spitting yet?

II guess I'm right on time! I am so angry right now i could spit. I know it's early, but I'm heading for the bar.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 19 months ago

Dear pcoach, (and Pepper),

First let me say that your kind words humble me. I may just print the comment to keep reminding me why I write. Thanks so much. Am I spitting yet? You bet I'm spitting. Let's face it. Congress used to feel like once they were in office they were the anointed ones. They would answer constituents with a form letter, occasionally do a good deed on someone's behalf and enjoy all the perks of being in office. Suddenly, a good part of the electorate started waking up and now they are angry, rude and avoiding us like the plague. I hope and pray that voter fraud doesn't wipe away all the inroads we've made. November should bring some fresh air into Washington. I have a feeling I just wrote a hub. I just may expand on it! Enjoy the week-end.
