Artichoke Souffle On Manic Monday

Painful Reminder

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, May 10, 2010. There is always something outrageous to talk about on Manic Monday and today is no exception. Let's prepare a delicious Artichoke Souffle this morning to appease our appetitie and then let's discuss something that may make you regret eating so early in the morning. I apologize in advance for that.

To prepare our souffle you will need 1 /4 cup salsa, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack, 16 ounces light sour cream, 1-10 ounce can of chopped non-marinated artichoke hearts, 10 large eggs, butter flavored cooking spray and some basil for garnish. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray 6 ramekins with butter flavored spray. Spread 1 tablespoon of salsa in the bottom of each ramekin. Distribute artichokes in each dish. Now sprinkle Parmesan, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese over each. Place the eggs and sour cream in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour egg mixture over the cheese and bake uncovered in oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until set. Garnish with a sprig of basil.

There is a 13 story building that was damaged by debris from the September 11th massacre. That building is about to become a mosque because two Muslim organizations have joined together to open a mosque and cultural center in lower Manhattan. These groups believe that the project, which is estimated to cost 100 million dollars, will create a venue for mainstream Islam and a counterbalance to radicalism.

I and countless other people say, "why there?" Why is this painful reminder of what religious fanaticism can do being built so close to ground zero? To be sure there are probably many people who will view this project as an opportunity to bridge a cultural divide. I see it as a painful slap in the face to the wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, husbands, fathers and sons of the brave men and women who lost their lives at the hands of Muslim terrorists on that day.

In my humble opinion the only people who have a right to decide if this mosque should go up are the families of the victims. Every day of their lives is a painful reminder of what they have lost and we must support them in every way. Personally, I cannot bear the thought of this mosque rising so close to this hallowed ground. I watched the smoke of the towers darkening the sky over New Jersey and my heart was forever broken. A small community only minutes from my home lost many people. A father and daughter in my neighborhood died that day and it is inconceivable to me to imagine a mosque going up in Lower Manhattan.

Am I being politically incorrect? Probably. Do I care? No, I don't. This project is ill-conceived and cruel and to many of the victim's families, and to this writer, it is a heartless and deliberate slap in the face...POP...

I have an early morning appointment today, so I will not be able to chat with you until I return. In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves..

Pop,

Good morning. I was a little surprised to see breafast served before I woke up. That being said I would like to weigh in on the mosque. The same pinhead must have came up with this idea as came up with the trial of KSM in lower Manhattan!!!!!!!

Just another example of the idiocy of political correctness. In a muslim country, you would not even be permitted to build a Christian church, but here in the land of pc, Christians are one of the few groups it is acceptable to prctice discrimination upon!

Wanderlust profile image

I am surprised that they are not building the mosque instead the World Trade Center! Isn't it a great idea? The tallest mosque in the world! I beleive muslim terrorists shouldn't worry about damaging this country anymore. The current administration is doing better job then they are! I have an impression that the current administration hates America and Americans much more than all anti-American groups and organizations around the world.

Anything we say, if it is not pro-muslim, anti-American, will be considered politically incorrect. If you are white, then you are politically incorrect. This seems like more than a slap in the face. This seems like an outright attack on America. Unfortunately, the radicals and extremists have so much support from within our own borders, there is no place for reason.

Thank you for keeping on top of things for us, especially this early. I will forgo eating right now, because this makes me sick to my stomach. Now where is that recipe for hurricanes?

Namaste friend.

sheila b. Level 4 Commenter 2 years ago

I've been looking into this, too. Personally, I think the Times Square car bomber was a 'sleeper', here since before 9/11, and there are many, many more, some of them like the group building the mosque, all aimed at 'converting' America to Islam.

Pino Krisio 2 years ago

POP: I am so sick of political correctness. Are you being PC? Probably not. Who cares.

How insulting to have this mosque built on the grounds of the 9-11 site. Who approved this? I'm certain that NYC Zoning has to approve a change of occupancy in a building. How tragic that those in office would approve such an occupancy.

I'm off to the bar... Save me a seat...

I certainly hope

Morning POP, it would be a disgrace to let a Mosque be built in the center of New York where such a tragedy happened, but think of the outrage if any other religion would try to build a church there. Of course not all Muslims are terrorist, but all terrorist are Muslims!

Putz Ballard profile image

I with ya Pop, bless you for sharing your thoughts. This would be an outrage and I hope it doesn't happen. It would be a slap in the face to all who perished that horrible day and the loved ones who still carry the burden of grief.

Not being politically incorrect at all—nor being politcally correct for that matter. You are being an American. You are being a patriot. Imagine having a Japanese Buddhist temple near the Pearl Harbor site.

This is no mosque. This is a shrine for the martyrdom of Islamic terrorists and of extremist Muslim victory against the United States. King Teleprompter himself should stand up and say "Hell no! Not on my watch." The mayor of New York should declare this an act of ignorance, complacency, and disrespect by the Muslim people to America, its values, and absolutely a show of disregard for one of the worst days in our American history.

If this ever goes through, you can rest assured there'll be 3,000 bodies of WTC victims rolling in their graves, and 5,000 more bodies will be rolling in their graves who died fighting in their honor.

POP, I completely agree with you. If the divide can be mended it certainly is not at a site with so many painful memories will live in are minds forever. I know we all know exactly what we were doing when 9/11 happened. It is as clear in my mind as if it was yesterday and I didn't lose anyone in that horrible disaster. Good hub.

morning POP...It should be obvious to anyone that has looked at Muslim history to understand that building mosques on the ashes of conquered cities is de rigueur for Islam...Constantinople, Cordoba, etc...The building of this mosque, at that location, is simply a shrine to the 9-11 Muslim terrorists...it is a celebration of Jihad...Mayor Bloomberg and his friends on the Board of Adjustment have decided to appease the Islamic community and allow them to have a focal point for their glorification of their " martyrs "... This cannot be allowed to happen...A mass protest is scheduled towards the end of May...Will the media be listening..?

See you at the tavern, I heard TaxLarry has a fresh supply of faux elk jerky...Larry

Poppy, I suppose this is the backside of political correctness. This is what the victims, the victim's survivors, and the patriotic American public gets when the values that guide our daily lives are so twisted by the illogical thinking of socialist insiders and those of Islam who desire nothing more than destroying the USA. Bloomberg and his gutless bunch of cronies who run New York and countless others are more than willing to stand aside and let such a hideous in-your-face action be carried out. Where is our Secretary of State who stood so strongly for all of the brave people of New York in her senatorial days? Ultimately, there are only two factions in this outrageous defamation to the memories of all who lost their lives at ground zero on 9-11. They are the radical Islamic heathens who speak of religious dedication+ and adherance only to go forth and slaughter honest human beings to champion their cause and then there are those who are cut from American cloth and blood line who would sell or bargain all that is sacred to anyone who comes forward with piles of cash, no matter how much blood is on it. I feel quite certain that this slap in the face to the victims of 9-11, their survivors, and ultimately to the American public and way of life is being perpetrated from sources in Saudia Arabia, a country who only professing to be a friend of America, is seething with hatred and bent totally on reducing America to ashes. God Bless Us All.

Hi Pop,

yeah, I'm not sure about this one. I don't think it is appropiate. It is 2 blocks away from ground zero so at least it is not on the actual site. I worked in this area for 6 years. The positive about the mosque is that it will have a theatre, full court basketball, a pool, and these facilites are open to the public. If you have been to downtown NYC in recent years, you know that many developers have built condo's, appartments, etc. They have been trying to make downtown more of a living/working area, rather than just a working area. There is not much for the community downtown so the facilities will be nice for the community. However, I say again, in my opinion, I wouldn't want it there. One interesting thing to note is that there has been some opposition but it has been pretty minimal. I think most NY'ers are in favor of this.

No, you are not being politically incorrect. You are correct, period. Let them build their Mosque somewhere else - there's a large Muslim - and pro-American population here in Michigan - I might add. They of course should be able to express their religion freely where they want. That is just the WORST place to express it and it is highly insulting and insensitive. You are 100% right Pop! Sheri you couldn't be more wrong, I've seen with my own eyes christian churches in Morocco, Lebanon and Turkey, there are even synagogues in Iran and other Muslim nations, so before you shoot your mouth off about other peoples countries you may wanna actually go there first or at least take the two seconds to perform a wiki search and educate yourself. Furthermore nobody hear has any evidence to suggest that the intentions of the Muslims erecting this mosque are in any way hostile or anti-American, or that those men are in any way religious radicals as opposed to moderate Muslims. Lastly, unless your one of the 911 victim's family members or friends you have no right to talk about how they feel because quite frankly you have no idea.
