Black Cherry Smash and the POP Awards
68And the Winner Is...
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, June 15, 2010. I have returned from St. Maarten/St. Martin and I must say it is good to be home. I tried my best to steer clear of the news but in the end I realized that what they say is true, "you can run, but you can't hide". The weather was extremely hot, the bugs were everywhere and we even had our very own oil spill in the lagoon in Simpson Bay. The government in St. Maarten reacted to it as lethargically as our own government is doing in the Gulf, so although I did relax, eat, drink and enjoy, my mind was still engaged in the mess back home. I missed all of you and I can hardly wait to see you all at the 39th presentation of the weekly POP Awards. Let's prepare a Black Cherry Smash and meet at the theater. All you need for "breakfast" this morning is 1.5 ounces of Smirnoff Black Cherry Vodka and 3 ounces of lemon-lime soda. Fill an elegant glass with ice, add the vodka and lemon-lime soda and stir well. Pour your "breakfast" into a thermos and bring the glass along. See you in a few.
Welcome everyone to the presentation of the POP Awards. We will begin the ceremony by welcoming a representative from Wilder Publications to the stage. The committee has learned that your company has put warning labels on copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and other national documents. Your warning label states that the documents are a product of their time and do not reflect the same values as they would if they were written today. You actually tell parents that they might wish to discuss how things have changed with their children before reading the Constitution. I wonder do you put a warning label on the Communist Manifesto or do you consider that document to reflect our country's values now? Please accept your POP, I am quite sure President Obama would approve of your efforts.
Our next "winner" this morning is Valerie Fleishman, executive director of the New England Healthcare Institute. Apparently, you and others agree that paying patients to take their medication is critical to cutting down on hospital admissions. Once news about these incentives gets around, just imagine how many patients will suddenly turn non-compliant and get in on the giant give away. Have you ever heard of personal responsibility? If people don't take their meds and land in the hospitals, why don't we make sure that they are held accountable for the bills they amass. Now that's a plan we can understand.
Our third esteemed "winner" of the morning is the well known duo of Sens. Lieberman and Kerry. The committee finds it fascinating to realize that the bill you have fashioned that will tax businesses for carbon emissions and make life unbearable for small business and households was crafted with the help of BP. Is this the same BP that is responsible for the ongoing and devastating oil spill in the Gulf? The question does not require an answer. Oh well, why let a good crisis go to waste. In the midst of all this turmoil I am sure you will find a way to ram this unpopular legislation down the throats of an already weary public.
Our fourth recipient today is Arlington National Cemetery. Will Deputy Superintendent Thurman Higginbotham please come up to the stage. Sir, the committee has chosen to give you this POP because you are responsible for running the day to day operations at Arlington. Hundreds of remains of our fallen heroes have been misidentified or misplaced and there are no words strong enough to express our outrage over this unbearable situation. It is our understanding that you have been placed on leave pending further investigation. I hope you spend your "leave" trying to come up with an explanation for this tragedy and then we suggest you get as far away from Arlington as possible. If the investigation finds you complicit in this treatment of our fallen heroes, perhaps there is a jail cell somewhere with your name on it.
The last "winner" of the morning is ObamaCare. We asked President Obama to accept the award but he is way too busy "doing absolutely" nothing about the oil spill to take time out from his busy "sports" schedule. Instead Press Sec. Gibbs will stand in for him. Welcome Mr. Gibbs. We have chosen to give your boss this award to mark the beginning of the destruction of medical care in our country. This month doctors will start seeing a 21 percent pay cut in Medicare reimbursements. Put that together with the fact that many doctors and nurses will retire early rather than face ObamaCare and we have a guaranteed crisis on our hands. Nearly 40 percent of doctors in this country are 55 or older. One third of our nurses are 50 or older. Let's do the math. Zero doctors plus zero nurses equals zero care. Thank President Obama for us, won't you?
This brings our ceremony to an end. Let us raise our Black Cherry Smashes on high and thank our "winners" for giving us a reason to drink. Until next week...POP...

HGi BPop ,so nice to have you back again. Yes you missed quite a bit in your abscence ! My eyes almost popped out of my head when I had heard about Wilder Publications disclaimer on the constitution ! I could not believe it! I hope they go broke. And your other entries are worthy as well. Good to have you back BPop !
Welcome back! All winners are so desrving. I have never heard of Wilder Publications, but they must be an arm of the Obumma administration as the administration is trying to skirt the Constitution or ignore it. The less said about lieberman and Kerry the better. As for the deisgrace at Arlington Cemetery, that supports my belief that the government cannot run anything. They want to run our healthcare? The government will kill us. And, when we're dead, they will misplace our bodies. Way to go, government. As for Obumma, the less said about him the better as well. Meet you all at the bar. BARTENDER..............
Welcome back Pop, I've missed you! All deserving winners as usual.... And yes, I agree with Tom, Gibbs' voice and look gives me the shivers too......
POP: Glad you're back. I've missed you.
Wilder Publications should know that the Constitution was written in 1776. We do! Maybe Obama directed them to put the disclaimer on the Constitution! Obama must be bored, with all that golf and flying around.
Doesn't Valerie Fleishman realize that the people who will not take their meds will take a pill a day, throw them away, and then collect their bonus? Some people have no common sense.
Well, I'm off to the bar. I cannot wait to see you and the rest of the gang! I'll buy today. Let's all go and toast Breakfast POP all night. We'll worry about the hangovers tomorrow. Save me a seat......
Welcome back, Pop! Sure missed your breakfasts! Sorry to hear all the crap from here had to creep in on your vaca...but I suppose all the blundering idiots in Washington make headlines pretty much everywhere. Anyway, another "great" ceremony. Obama constantly makes me want to vomit, but that Wilder Publication business is down right ridiculous. The rest are deserving of their "awards" as well.
Pop good to see you back. I am sure you must be thinking a little deja vu as the same problems are still here - as you addressed. The whole Management of the BP fiasco is something that the three stooges couldn't have stage managed better! Try and stay relaxed as long as you can post your holiday :)
BPOP, Welcome home and I am so glad you are back home as your hubs are always right on target. I agree with your nominees 100%. I also agree with Tony that I hope Wilder Publications go broke. I get steaming mad just thinking about it. One thing didn't change in your absence, we still have an ineffective Muslim at the helm of this country.
I think we should all head to the inn for a welcome home party for you!
POP (hugs) It's been a long two weeks, you didn't write, you didn't call....LOL
The awards are just crammed with deserving recipients, but in all fairness Obama should receive two of them, one for tonight, where in his speech I'm sure he will find a way to stick us with Cap & Trade, or whatever it's called now. Like Palin said...."I can see November from my house" and it doesn't look pretty.
Hey if the WH can have two parties a week, I'm sure we can squeeze in a welcome back party for you. Vodka, yummm.
Oh my dear Pop, I missed and so happy you are back. This is and excellent hub, and this this Pop awards when very well, every was seated and quiet, no outbreaks our fight between parties. The awards all three should all go to Obama, yes one or doing nothing, another for thinking he is God, and third, is an idiot...rate way and the above. Your fan and friend, darski
Well Poppy...you kept you edge that's easy to see. Reading your POPS gives me the sensation that we are living in an asylum and surrounded by....well, you get the picture. I already have campaign name for whoever will be Obama'a opponent in 2012...it will be called "The Return To Sanity Tour"! Like the inside of a hardward store, the kingdom is full of loose nuts! We must swim the moat and have our way! WB
Morning POP...Welcome back...Your sage commentary has been sorely missed by all...The Lieberman/Kerry bill will be pushed hard by the fading democrats as they want to squeeze as many bills as they can through congress before its show and tell time in November...look for a plethora of " progressive " bills in the next 4 months...
In your absence, fellow breakfastpopper Wayne Brown has been holding forth with some excellent political commentary Hubs that has kept our focus on a predatory Washington DC...See you at the tavern to welcome your return...Larry
Pop, welcome back! I missed your presence around the morning coffee. As usual the awards are great. I hope that even with the heat and bugs you got some quality time away.
See you at the Inn, I hope the A/C is working there, I need to cool down, these 106+ degree days are keeping me at bay, 50
Pop, Welcome home...you were missed.
Wow! thanks for the info on non-compliant patients being paid for not taking their meds. I'm putting a claim in for
my husband TODAY! and I just can't wait to be taxed on the amount my husband's company contributes to my health insurance. That, on top of having to find a doctor to accept Medicare payments should narrow down our options.
Let's keep things in perspective. While I think what Wilder Publications did was 'silly,' I'm guessing they put the warning out there because the original constitution did not allow women to vote and it counted slaves as 3/5's of a vote. In this day and age of vampire lawyerism, they are probably worried about being sued for endorsing the constitution in it's original form.
Regarding climate legislation, rather than just pick up on republican talking points, I encourage everyone to read the bill. It is certainly not perfect but the question is this: Is it better to pass this bill or keep the status quo?
I realize these are talking points but I encourage everyone to read the bill or at least the summary. When Reagan first proposed cap and trade, he was right on and it was a huge success once Bush Sr enacted it. Let's not let rhetoric and lies get in the way:
The bill is called 'American Power Act (APA). ' According to a study of the APA by the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the legislation would achieve its goals which include:Job creation from new clean energy investment, including nuclear, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), biofuels, and renewables, equals 308,000 jobs annually. It would reduce oil consumption from 2008 levels by an amount equivalent to 40 percent of total U.S. imports. This reduction would reduce U.S. spending on foreign oil by $93 billion per year. The APA would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from covered sources by 22 percent below 2005 levels in 2020 and 42 percent in 2030
Breakfast pop your line of fans was waiting your return. Bless you and Welcome home safe and 'sound' tee He.
Wilder needs to add that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He never Changes. He is still on the throne. May God help those that deny he FOUNDED and Created this planet. He Led the founding fathers here to America. ONE NATION UNDER GOD. Great Nation under God. There are many Idol Gods called Greed, Power, Lust all the while twisting truths to conform to a lifestyle that will not stand. God does not like this at all. The Devil is looming in all corners. He IS defeated because Christ took him on. He knows he is doomed to Hell. Greed and Power will not prevail but will take this world down. Children of God share the God news.
The Oil spill; divine intervention is needed. God can plug up the hole. Man can not get it right. WAKE UP America, wake up world. God is still on the Throne. He Created He Birthed our Lands, he created the seas. HE calms the tides. He moves the winds. Please Pray America and repent.
The rest of comments I will leave to others. I am chugging the Black Cherry drink. It is yummy. Whoa, softened the blow. Thank You for all your generous wisdom, research and knowledge.
HUGS to You Breakfast Pop. Love Ya Big Time. Many many BLessings to your and yours!!! I will be by soon for my loyal news Briefing.
WELCOME BACK POP!! BOY we sure missed you! I'm going to request a double vodka in that lovely breakfast concoction - it will make the ca-ca we have to swallow with this administration go down just a tad easier...
Nothing to add - just a way to see the "lighter" side of this insanity that is in charge. How does the saying go? The patients running the asylum...yes, that's the one! Love, carol
Pop, where are my manners? Welcome back. I do enjoy your hubs, they always provoke thought.
Regarding climate legislation, the current bill has been in the works for over a year. It was written through a bi-partisan effort involving Kerry, Lieberman, and republican Lindsey Graham. It is aimed at big business polluters, not small businesses. The argument that it hurts the small business is the same one made during the original cap and trade plan passed by Bush Sr, which we now know was false. The house passed a bill a year ago, the senate version has been worked on for 'hundreds' and perhaps 'thousands' of hours. The statement that it is being 'rammed,' 'jammed,' through is a republican talking point and obviously not true.
Ask yourself this question...why would the democrats want to ram through some bills that hurt the american people 6 months before an election? If these bills did indeed attack the 'little guy,' Dems would essentially be committing political suicide.
I will concede that the bill is full of special interest deals to buy votes but until you remove money from politics, you will always have that problem. Again, that problem rests with Republicans. We have 142 Dems sponsoring a campaign finance reform bill in the house (Fair Elecions Now Act) and only 2 republicans. Essentially, the bill is probably 60% 'good' and 40% 'bad' but if we continue our dependence on foreign oil, it is 100% 'bad'
Welcome home! Enjoyed reading your up-to-date commentary, though your old ones were enjoyable and, sorry to say, still relevant.
Pop
While you were basking in the sun on St. Maarten we were wallowing in the oil back here on good old St. Barrack! All third world governments are slow to react so the fact that The government in St. Maarten reacted lethargically is no surprise; they have most probably been watching Barrack Hussein Obama videos on how to respond to a domestic crisis. But I digress time to move on to the Pop Awards
Well at least they have an appropriate name for your first winner; Wilder Publications that is. I assume Dumb Ass; Goofball; Tethering Jewel of Colossal Ignorance or Nattering Nabobs of Negativity were already taken. It is only appropriate amidst the all out assault on the Constitution by this regime that this bunch would put warning labels on copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and other national documents. Someone or group should picket in front of their headquarters with signs reading “Warning; Dangerous insurrections reside inside these walls; enter at your own risk”!
Come on Pop, what do you think the Nanny State is all about? You can’t expect people to take their medication; these same people you don’t expect to work for a living; pay for their own houses or healthcare or buy their own illegitimate children breakfast, lunches and dinners. You know it says so right there in the Bill of Rights; the only document that Wilder bunch doesn’t want to affix with warning labels, all people are endowed with certain inalienable rights; not to be confused with certain Illegal Alien Rights, among them are life liberty, free housing, free food, health care and the right to what you and I have!
Pop; Sens. Lieberman and Kerry are Democrats. I know Lieberman is supposedly an Independent but he caucuses with the Democrats. What do you expect from them? Remember Democrats never met a tax they didn’t like! Also remember Rham Emanuel said; never let a crisis go to waste; the ongoing and devastating oil spill in the Gulf is definitely a crisis so HEY, LET’S TAX. In the immortal words of Chubby Checker…..Lets Tax again Like we did Last Summer, Lets Tax again like we did last year, do you remember when you used to have some money, well let’s tax again Taxing time is here; down and a down and a down and a down we go again………
Arlington National Cemetery; isn’t that the place Hussein Obama stiffed on Memorial and sent Babbles Biden in his place. They need to reserve a large plot for the burial of the United States of America. Maybe they will be able to keep up with its’ remains?
Premier Obama could be the recipient of any of the aforementioned awards. He has indeed inspired all his fellow recipients to new lows and as such is deserving of all the awards collectively!
Well done Pop!
Pop, I hear you, I really do but every bill is going to be flawed until we get money out of politics. Until that time, votes will always be bought. The attitude is "if I vote for climate legislation, what do I get." Response "we'll give your district $10 million to build a green friendly technology plant. You can then showcase to the voters that you brought in $10 Mil and 100 jobs, etc etc." Then the lawmaker goes back to the businesses in his/her district and gives the $10 million job to build the new plant to the company that just happened to donate thousand to his/her campaign.
Yeah, it is gross but until we remove money from politics, that is going to be a reality. This was true of HC reform, it was true of the defense bills passed by republican administrations and former president Bush, it will be true with the next administration after Obama. It is part of our 'broken' system. One fix is to eliminate earmarks (lots of Dem support, no republican support) and to eliminate or reform campaign financing (lots of Dem support, very little republican support).
Regardless of all that, standing against climate change reform is standing for dependence on foreign oil.
Another great ceremony, BPop. I hadn't heard about the fiasco at Arlington; what an outrage!
Welcome back - you were missed!
B-Pop- Might I say I have missed you! Hope you had a great vacation! All of the recipients have more than earned their places at the awards........... Mr. Higginbotham may have deserved the first award though.......... and I thought graves were only mismarked on the south side of Chicago........... what he's allowed to happen is a travesty!
Happy to see you!
Kaie
Mmm, sounds refreshing. and a must-have, considering this news. you need to publish these in a book. i can see you on the Today Show now :)
rating UP!
BPOP Welcome Home!! So glad you are back! I've been on a break as well moving to a new job at a VA Hospital serving as a Recreation Therapist Assistant. Much to tell but I have to check with the PAO about privacy restrictions etc before I start talking about work.
The biggest flaw in cap and trade it seems to me is the 'cap' seems to me if they took out the hurt in changing and instead provided positive incentives for the biggest power users to change to Nat Gas to help defray the costs, it would be a good tax investment on behalf of us citizens. As proposed now it will raise costs for everyone and in these troubled times it is just not a good idea. But there is much good in it if they can cut out the trash.
As for Mr Higgenbottom, I would suggest you arrange fr him to meet 50 cal and my self in a closed room for a short period of time so we can explain proper procedure to him in detail.
And yep no DR fix means no Dr's Fixing folks who are sick.
I'll see ya at the bar cause I can use shot or two Thanks Pino!! Love ya Pop
Pop, it is good to see you back.
Get money out of politics. It seems the left thinks it is okay for unions to put in millions of money into politics, but the counter parts - the corporations cannot. The is not democratic and fair.
I am mad at BP, but I am also upset that government control was really messed up to. Why can't we drill is more shallow water, instead of out in the deepest areas. Where were the inspectors making sure the drilling was done properly? Yes BP is ultimately responsible for drilling properly. I think of a government inspectors need to be fired over this, as well of some BP people need to go to jail.
Keep on hubbing!
It is good to see you back although I was busy as well, my baby was sick, sorry been behind reading, and I am glad youre at it again, all the awardees are super fluck hehe, Will the Hope Pub go broke? rated this up, Maita
Wonderful read Pop, I loved it.
Dear Pop,
so good to see you back and just as feisty as ever. Missing breakfast was not half as bad as missing your commentary and your perspective on the events. Welcome back
Congratulations on your vacation! And what a lovely place to go too. I was wondering where you had got off to.
Welcome back. Looks like a lot of people missed you!
Pop - Enjoyed reading about those fine awards !
Gus :-)))
We should know better than to ignore the warning labels our "trusted" politicians are wearing on their smile
Hi breadfastpop,
Sorry, I haven't been able to post anything lately or visit anyone's sites. I just moved up to Duluth MN so I've been pretty busy.
Take care.
Sincerely,
Rebecca a.k.a. Rwritings
Great panel of winners, as usual! Save me a seat at the bar!
