Black and Tan and the PIP-POP Awards
58Spectacular!
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, November 30, 2010. It is with great pleasure that I invite all of you to attend the 11th weekly presentation of the PIP-POP Awards. As is our age old custom, let's prepare a liquid breakfast that is potable and portable. Today's selection is called a Black and Tan. It is a layered drink of a pale ale such as Bass on the bottom and Guinness Stout on the top. Simply pour the pale ale into a pint glass and float the Guinness on top to fill the glass. Do so by pouring it over a bar spoon. Place the Black and Tan on a tray, put on your finest clothes and head for the theater. I can't wait to see all of you.
Welcome friends and honorees. This morning's presentation is chock full so without further delay let's begin the show. Let's welcome our very first "winner" to the stage, Nightline co-anchor Bill Weir. We have a POP with your name on it. When you were asked about your impression of reporting from war zones you bemoaned the fact that journalists who are imbedded with U.S. forces are only seeing one side of the story. The committee suggests that you give some thought to imbedding yourself with the Taliban in the interests of being fair and balanced. Perhaps you can see first hand what a suicide bombing looks like.
Our second honoree of the morning is President Obama. As is customary, Mr. Robert Gibbs will be accepting the award on his behalf. Mr. Gibbs please add this POP to the president's collection for finally, after 22 months in office, choosing a nominee to act as envoy to the United Nations. Mr. Joseph Torsella will represent our interests at the U.N. despite the fact that he has not a shred of diplomatic experience or U.N. experience. If filling this position was such a low priority for President Obama, why not consider asking the U.N. to pack their irrelevant bags and give us back the 25 percent we contribute to their peacekeeping budget and the additional 22 percent we contribute to their operating budget.
The third "winner" of the morning is MSNBC. The committee watched your prime time town hall on immigration reform and were dumbstruck by the level of bias that permeated this entire farce. Instead of presenting all sides of the issue, as promised, the hall was stacked with liberal voices who were completely dismissive of the few lone conservative voices in the group. You have raised the existence of bias in media to new levels. Perhaps that should have been the focus of your charade about immigration. Here's your POP. We can all agree that your network has earned it.
Our fourth honoree of the morning receiving a POP Award goes to NBC and its affiliates for naming Sharif El -Gamal, the developer of the Ground Zero mosque as one of the "People of the Year". Thank you for insulting the families of the victims of September 11th, the victims and the sensibilities of all Americans with this careless and thoughtless nomination.
Our last but certainly not least honoree has been chosen to receive the coveted PIP Award. Please welcome small business owner Lola Gonzalez. Ms. Gonzalez, the committee is honoring you today for making a most unusual decison when faced with the unhappy prospect of having to lay off an employee in your company. Rather than choose someone who has worked for you loyally for years, you chose to fire yourself! You are a kind, thoughtful and remarkable woman and we all applaud you.
Let's bring this morning's festivities to a close with a heartfelt toast to our "winners". If nothing else the POP Awards give us a reason to drink and the PIPs give us a reason to celebrate. Until we meet again...PIP PIP HOORAY, POP GOES THE WEASELS........

Poppy...maybe with the anticipated wikileaks hitting the ground, we could not find anyone with experience willing to show up at the UN so we send someone totally unsuspecting! Interesting how NBC and MSNBC continue to attempt to paint the house pink when the viewers have long since tired of the color. I guess they are competing to see who can hold on to the most liberals in their audience. As I look about these days I am reminded of that "vast right wing conspiracy" that Hilary Clinton mentioned back in the 90's...isn't it heartwarming to see that it is still going on? LOL! WB
Wonderful awards ceremony, as usual. The awards are almost like the movie Casablanca. "Round up the usual suspects." The usual suspects included the "main stream media", well represented nin these awards, and our beloved president Barry Obumma. SS,DD. Good job on Ms. Gonzalez. It's nice to have a PIP once in a while. Let's toast again at the bar. BARTENDER............
Well I love the Black and Tan LOL!
"why not consider asking the U.N. to pack their irrelevant bags and give us back the 25 percent" - yeah right, like that'll actually happen!!!
Darn I haven't got much to argue about this morning, must be slipping in my old age!!!!!!
Pop, I love your Bill Wier suggestion and got a hardy laugh. I've thought the irrelevant UN should have been kicked out of the NYC years ago. I can't see why we waste out money and the diplomatic immunity has been a joke on more than one occasion. I am glad you chose Lola Gonzalez for a PIP as she is certainly deserving. The awards were perfect again. See you at the inn. I'll buy today.
POP just make sure I got a shot of Cuervo Gold to go with it and I'm good for the about ten minutes of watching the clowns on NBC and the minions at MSNBC get stupid. With all that warm pee running down their legs you wonder why they don't at least pull out their umbrellas against the rain. Instead of standing there singing in it.
See ya at the Inn great Awards!
BTW Kudos for Mrs G, a business women that knows how to lead too!
POP: Sorry I'm so late to the theatre. The Black and Tan is very tasty!
Great PIP/POP awards, as usual. Starting with the PIP, I am so proud of Lola Gonzalez! She certainly is very deserving of this award.
As for the others, from Obama to the MSNBC/NBC etc., I am just wondering about the liberal MSM: Are they trying to outdo each other? Sherif El-Gamal as a person of the year? Bill Weir stating that reporting from a war zone is unbalanced journalism? My logical mind cannot understand such things.
The Black and Tan was not enough. I'm off to the bar - save me a seat....
Morning POP...Outstanding PIP-POP awards ceremony, each and every one well-deserved...
Re the UN...The US provides almost 25% of all goods and services purchased by the UN, approx. 375 million bucks worth...many small businesses depend on the UN for its profitability and growth...so don't throw out the baby with the dirty bathwater...This Joseph Torsella person is the senate candidate for Pennsylvania that Obama encouraged to step down, ala Sestak, to allow Spector to run unopposed...This is simply his payoff, a relatively unimportant posting so politically arcane that it had remained unfilled for 18 months...but he does have access to those American businesses that bid on those UN services and goods to be provided...this opens up a direct access to qualifying the bidding process through personal attrition and fiat...
So much graft, greed, and plain incompetence in government...Perhaps we have reached that point where government, as we know it, has become so complicated and unaccountable, that we should return to a true Republic, with a small central government, and most of the powers to affect change laying in the hands of the States themselves...I agree with Marco Rubio that we should make congress part-time.
See you at the tavern, POP...That Black and Tan ( may they fry in hell ) may go down a little hard for this Irishman, but then, it is made with good Irish suds on top of the Brit brew...Larry
great awards POP...
I laughed out loud while and the Black and Tan swooshed through my nostrils at the image of our reporters embedded with the Taliban and hanging with Bin Laden...
We have some stupid people in this country.
Keep on hubbing!
You know what Pop? My college friend and dear friend all these years is owner/CEO of Lynn Powers. It's a head hunting firm and they used to limit their placements to the publishing industry. Her offices are located on Madison Ave. Can you tell I'm proud of her? Anyway - she chose not to receive a salary given the tough economic times and has managed not to lay off or fire anyone at all. She is a woman of integrity and I believe she deserves a Pip too! ;-)
I always learn something when I read your writings. Wonderful Hub! If I could have voted up multiple times, I would have. Love, carol
Yes this was a whopper of a ceremony my darling friend. You called right out of fact, and I must admit that Obama's awards must be over flowing in his home. I hope they take over his home so he must have to move out. And this emigration issue is making me crazy, okay okay I know I am already crazy, however this matter makes it worse. We need to stand firm. I have lost all my benefits as a senior who has worked all my life to those people that had children in this country. Fair is not fair and until you on on the tail end of this truth you will never know what budget cutbacks will force us into the streets. Rate up, love you pop peace, darski
Did I make it in time for the last call? This was the best awards ceremony yet. They're all so deserving...
I will be happy to take MSNBC their award BPop and personally give it to Olbermann and Maddow. They are so pathetic as is that whole network.I don't call MSNBC the H1N1 of cable news for nothing.
Excellent. I appreciated your wonderful sense of irony: "The committee suggests that you give some thought to imbedding yourself with the Taliban in the interests of being fair and balanced. Perhaps you can see first hand what a suicide bombing looks like."
That's an idea that'll stick in my head.
MSNBC biased??? Say it isn't so. :>)
you just said that msnbc is trying heroically but still failing to make us all believe that obama is the answer. unfortunately, we have all forgotten that the question was 'who can wreck america the fastest?'.
Dear bp - I read your hubs daily and your explanations of what is happening regarding our esteemed (?) political reps as well as television commentators keeps getting as Alice would say, "Curiouser and curiouser."
Reason and good sense seem to have vanished - probably fell into that same deep rabbit hole.

I hadn't heard about NBC until this morning, I think I am going to be sick.
