Blinis and a List of Demands

By breakfastpop

Gimmee, Gimmee!

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, October 5, 2011. If you have always wanted to live in a nation that takes care of all your problems then I strongly suggest you come to class today. The "Occupy Wall Street" protesters have an amazing list of demands that I am sure you will delight in.

Let's prepare our breakfast and then head for class. This morning we will be fashioning some delicious Blinis. You will need enough ingredients for 6 servings which makes about 24 Blinis. Gather together 1 cup of buckwheat flour, 3/4 cup white bread flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups milk, 1/2 ounce compressed yeast, 2 separated eggs, and butter for frying.

Sift the flours together with the salt. In a small saucepan set over low heat, warm the milk. Stir in the yeast and add the egg yolks. Whisk until well-blended.

Add the egg and milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir until blended. Cover the batter with plastic wrap and leave at room temperature for at least 2 hours. Amuse yourself while you wait by enjoying some Bloody Marys.

Beat the egg whites until stiff. Fold the egg whites into the batter and let sit at room temperature for an hour. Have another Bloody Mary. On a griddle set over med-high heat, melt butter to cover the surface. Dollop the batter in large spoonfuls per pancake. Cook until bubbles appear on the surface and flip. Cook the other side until lightly brown. Wrap up the Blinis and head for class. There will be more Bloody Marys for you upon your arrival.

Good morning class. Take a lesson from this new batch of protesters down on Wall Street. To be sure lots of them, by their own admission, have no idea what they are doing there but some of them do. They have compiled a list of demands that I think you will find interesting. Some of you may even find them amusing but that's okay because a difference of opinion is welcome in this class. Are you ready?

The first demand calls for the restoration of the living wage by ending free trade. A part of this demand concerns the minimum wage which should be raised to $20 per hour. I think that's fair.

Demand number two calls for the banning of all private insurers and the introduction of a single payer healthcare system. Sound familiar?

Demand number three calls for a guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment. I have no idea what this means but it sounds good.

Demand number four insists upon a free college education for one and all. Yay!!!

Demand number five wants to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end replacing it with all those wonderful alternative energy programs. Think windmills!

Demand number six is asking for one trillion dollars for infrastructure spending. I can't see a problem with this can you?

Demand number seven wants an additional trillion dollars for ecological restoration. It also wants to put all of our nuclear reactors out of commission. Sounds like a plan!

Demand number eight wants a racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Demand number nine is simply wonderful. It calls for open border migration so that anyone, Al-Qaeda included, can travel anywhere to work and to live. What a fabulous idea!

Demand number ten wants a paper ballot for all elections that can be counted and recounted in front of independent and party observers. Why not have ACORN be in charge?

Demand number eleven is simply fantastic. It calls for across the board debt forgiveness of all debt, including sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans. Yippee!

Demand number twelve wants to eliminate all credit reporting agencies. Good riddance!

The final demand would allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time to form a union. How sweet it is!

There you have it class and aren't you impressed with the collective intellect of all these protesters? They want us all to live in a perfect word where everything is free and love is in the air. Let's all cross our fingers and hope these brave souls lead us all to a new and more perfect world. We can call it the United States of Obama. Class dismissed...POP...

Breakfastpoppers, just a note to tell you that I will be taking a few days off. I will be back next Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Be happy and be well. I shall miss all of you.

Good morning, breakfastpop!

I'm sure the protesters are serious I tried so hard not to laugh, but could just not help it. What's the point of having a $20/hr minimum wage here when all the jobs have been shipped to Asia? The rest of the demands are equally hilarious!!! I wonder how much loan I need so I can get the most out of demand number eleven. I'm applying for a new loan and will spend the rest of the week shopping recklessly!

The blinis along with the bloody mary were just perfect, btw! Enjoy your time off and be safe! You will be missed.

Here is my solution to the Wall Street protest. I would have to believe that these morons don't go to school or have any job. I couldn't take this much time off. I have to believe their parents are wealthy or at least employed by a company listed on Wall Street. So, these morons are bums. They are takers. So, I suggest we give. We should give them a cruise. There a many ships in the "moth ball" fleet with nothing to do. We should put the morons on the ships, put the ships on suto pilot and have them sail out to sea. When far enough offshore, our great Navy should have torpedo praactice and sink the ships. This accomplishes a few things. One, it gets rid of an Obumma voting block. Two, the sunken ships will create a reef that is friendly to sea life. These are two great accomplishments. It's a great visual. See y'all at the bar. BARTENDER.........

Good morning Nick,

This list of demands is perfect for a SNL skit. The scary part is how the liberal biased media is reacting to this idiocy. They are actually giving it legitimacy!! See you at the Inn and then I'm off for some R & R.

Good morning taxlarry,

I can see that you have given this a great deal of thought. Maybe if the ships sink they could become tourist attractions for conservative snorkelers who are interested in studying vegetation and communists! See you at the Inn and then I'm off for a few days of relaxation!

POP: Is this Fairy Tale Friday? I almost spit my coffee all over my keyboard. These cannot be legitimate demands.

Demand Number Eleven bothers me because I have no debt.

If they get close to a compromise and number eleven is still in it, I'll have to do a 24 hour stint of wreckless spending, so I can benefit from it.

Well, I will be laughing my way to the bar..I'm flying up there today, so I'll be there sooner. someone, please save me a seat.

POP: Enjoy your days off. See you soon.

This is definitely a crazy set of demands that will discredit the well overdue protest against Wall Street greed and the incompetence of banks to mind the stores and protect the financial system from going bankrupt.

Such absurd demands only prove that the movement is not well organized yet, but given time, they will hopefully find their voice; the sooner, the better!

When I was a little girl and my parents said we didn't have the money for something, such as a trip across the country to Disneyland, I 'knew' they were just making an excuse. Of course they had money. Daddy brought home his paycheck every Friday...

Then I had my own children, and when I told them I didn't have money for something, they told me to 'go to the bank and get some'.

These protesters have the intelligence of 6-year-olds.

Raising Minimum Wage to $20 only increases prices and decreases the workforce. The last time it was raised to $7+, one McD franchiser here cut his crew to one grillman and one person to run front counter and drive thru and fries and drinks and all else, even during lunch rush. Almost went out of business and customers screamed profanities. I stopped going there.

Now about loan forgiveness. I wish all the nations would erase all international debts, we start over, and we be more careful (I can wish). All the other debts? - I don't know. In the Old Testament, all debts were forgiven every 7 years, but they also had plagues.

Reminds me of Holland where a friend worked - nearly everything was free or cheap, but income tax was 70%, no deductions allowed.

Living wage is probably around $15/hr Full-Time or more right now. Is public assistance going that high?

Have a good vacation Pop!

Would it not be great if we could solve all our problems by creating a list of demands. I witnessed this same naive thinking in the 60's and nothing has changed in that sense. My guess would be that a large portion of those involved in writing these demands already have a college education but it apparently has done them no good whatsoever in the logic and common sense department. These young folks are ripe for manipulation and the parties are moving in this week...George Soros sponsored "MoveOn.org, Van' Jones' "Rebuild the Dream", various labor unions, and factions of the American Communist Party...could you ask for better help in terms of perserving democracy and allowing the capitalist market to function...I think not! Life truly is like a box of chocolates and every damn box has too many nuts in it. The fact that the young people of today have no reservations about pursuing a socialist agenda is unbelieable to me and certainly reflects what they have been taught by our education system. We are breeding our own destruction in this country. WB

o-ho-ho, I am so disconnected from reality, I don’t watch TV at all. I didn’t know that it was so serious if not scary. Gosh, it’s déjà-vu for me…. It kicks me back to where I came from (you know what I mean, if you know where I grew up).

Demand #2 means that hospitals and doctors won’t be paid at all and hospitals rooms will have ten-fifteen beds with beds in hall ways. Lack of medications, lack of knowledgeable doctors, raise of bribery, dirt and infections in hospitals, and others “advantages”

Demand #3 means that doctors, teachers, engineers, line workers, waitresses, cleaners will be paid the same wages which will be more like allowances.

Demand # 4 means that colleges will be full of NOT those who really want to study and pursue their goals, but also of those who are just dragging their time there, like going to college without drive or motivation just to postpone jobs.

I just don’t have words for other demands. Words are stuck in my throat and I need a good flush by Bloody Mary. Did you say you are buying all night, Pop?

I say we ship them to Iraq and let them make demands there. We don't make demands, we makes promises and none of them have been met. Good morning all, this morning we will be having Ramen noodles and the heel of a loaf bread since this is all that we can afford. First we need to heat some water for the ramen, we will be using our candle to do this as we couldn’t afford pay both the power bill and gas to get to work. After the water has reached warmth, place the noodle in the pot and wait a half hour then mix in the seasoning and remove from the heat. Next waive the heel over the candle flame until toasted, bon appétit.

“The first demand calls for the restoration of the living wage by ending free trade. A part of this demand concerns the minimum wage which should be raised to $20 per hour. I think that's fair.”

Free trade agreements are nothing more than a license for American businesses to send their work overseas. Import tariffs equalize the playing field and bring jobs back to this country. This is economics 101. As the biggest consumer in the world America should be the most protected.

“Demand number two calls for the banning of all private insurers and the introduction of a single payer healthcare system. Sound familiar?”

Yes it does, the entire industrialized world has done this. The Military does this, many states have done this, and for god sake even Cuba has done this. What’s the problem?

“Demand number three calls for a guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment. I have no idea what this means but it sounds good.”

It means that you can’t pay a waitress $1.50 per hour neither unemployment benefits that equate to $5 per hour in some states. It means that the money that is being horded at the top must be funneled to the bottom if the country is going to survive, again economics 101.

“Demand number four insists upon a free college education for one and all. Yay!!!”

Free Federal and state run education would guarantee America’s success in the techno world. Free educations would bring down the price of healthcare, technology, energy, and much more.

“Demand number five wants to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end replacing it with all those wonderful alternative energy programs. Think windmills!”

It is going to happen sooner or later, sticking your head in the sand isn’t going to change it. We should be working toward this goal. Even the most ignorant of people understand that when the water well begins to run dry, its time to look for another place to live.

“Demand number six is asking for one trillion dollars for infrastructure spending. I can't see a problem with this can you?”

Since Bush spent 15 trillion destroying the country I think that a few trillion trying to save it is a fair price.

“Demand number seven wants an additional trillion dollars for ecological restoration. It also wants to put all of our nuclear reactors out of commission. Sounds like a plan!”

Ecological restoration = jobs and a better world. Lets see if you have the same view about nuclear power when we have a problem here that renders an entire state uninhabitable. But then again you would just blame that on president Obama.

“Demand number eight wants a racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Demand number nine is simply wonderful. It calls for open border migration so that anyone, Al-Qaeda included, can travel anywhere to work and to live. What a fabulous idea!”

Why is it that Republicans have no problem with an open Canadian border, but raise holy hell about the Mexican border?

“Demand number ten wants a paper ballot for all elections that can be counted and recounted in front of independent and party observers. Why not have ACORN be in charge?”

Why would this worry you?

“Demand number eleven is simply fantastic. It calls for across the board debt forgiveness of all debt, including sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans. Yippee!”

The only thing that has sustained the current Trickle Down system is the infusion of money through loans which further deplete the income of the bottom recipients and the government’s intervention. It’s time to reset the system in order to save the economy.

“Demand number twelve wants to eliminate all credit reporting agencies. Good riddance!”

These agencies have almost governmental power over the people without governmental oversight. They can keep you from gaining employment, starting a business, acquiring a license and more. Within their reports you are guilty until proven innocent, and that can take months and even years to fix.

“The final demand would allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time to form a union. How sweet it is!”

Again, why would you fear this? If a company cannot pay the wages demanded by society, then they should not be in business. Collective bargaining enables the people to control the countries monetary system. When higher profits are made by a company the balance of wealth is held in check by the union. This is good for all involved as it ensures that workers of a society have the ability to purchase the goods and services that companies provide.

Dear Bunco,

Different strokes for different folks. You may be living in the wrong country. Perhaps Venezuela would appeal to you. By the way we have the best healthcare in the world and I want to keep it that way. Capitalism works, socialism doesn't. Where we would be without people like Steve Jobs who had a work ethic and the will to succeed.

the bunco squad profile image

the bunco squad 7 months ago

I agree that we all have the right to our opinions. And I love my country. As far as the best healthcare in the world, yes, the system with which we pay for it absolutely not. You are under the impression that you are not paying for the healthcare of the uninsured, but you are. Why do you think that the price of healthcare is so high? Doctors and hospitals pass along the cost of the uninsured to the insured .It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a pool that contains 100 people of which 75 are making claims will have much larger premiums than a pool of 1 million in which 50% are making claims. The greater the size of the pool the more likely it is to have healthy people paying into it.

No one is calling for socialism in these demands, and the current state of our economy is proof that unfettered capitalism does not work. The simple truth is that any economy that does not have an equal flow of currency from bottom to top and back again will eventually fail. If water is continually drained from a lake and none is returned the lake will empty and dry up. Once the money is gone from the bottom of our economy then there is no money to by the goods and services from those at the top. It’s the simplest thing to understand.

And by the way Steve Jobs was a staunch Democrat.

The more welfare we offer, the more leeches we create. Government should get entirely out of the welfare business and leave it to charity, since that was the intended purpose of exempting charitable organizations from taxation.

There is always a small percentage of genuinely needy people, but when nearly 50% of Americans are on some sort of government dole, the leftist social system has created a huge dependent class!

Socialist Greece, Italy, and Spain are near collapse, so you know what you can do with your beloved socialism.

the bunco squad profile image

the bunco squad 7 months ago

First, The Wall Street Journal report said that 44% of household had someone receiving some sort of government benefits. This ranges from the elderly receiving S.S.I., veterans receiving retirement or disability to food stamps. The word household means a family unit which encompasses ma, paw and children and other family members that happen to live there like granny and granddad. So get your facts straight.

Next, your gripe about a dependant class is the same gripe that you and your pals have with unions, you think that they are the reason you lost the last election and nothing more. When your men are in power we never here you gripe about either. And by the way it was your man that destroyed the economy and forced Americans into poverty. Geroge bush amassed a whopping fifteen trillion dollars worth of debt, killed the housing industry, bailed out his banking buddies and left with his finger in the air. These are the verifiable facts.

Finally, you wouldn’t know socialism if it slapped you in the face, all you do is repeat what you hear from Hannity and Limbaugh each day.

Dear bunco,

Whether Jobs was a Democrat or not is irrelevant. He grew up in a capitalist society that encouraged achievement. Hand everything over to people who do nothing to earn it and the incentive to achieve dies. As for the way our healthcare system works, rest assured I fully understand it. We need change but not the sweeping change in Obamacare which is going to cost a ton of money and destroy quality and access to care. As for the protesters, their demands are childish. My father put himself through law school by working his tail off. His parents couldn't help him at all. When he graduated, he couldn't practice because there were no jobs. He worked anywhere he could just to earn something while he was waiting for things to turn around. These people would rather whine and hang around in a park. I wouldn't hire any of them.

I said, "Finally, you wouldn’t know socialism if it slapped you in the face, all you do is repeat what you hear from Hannity and Limbaugh each day."

and you reply, "This is my place. I welcome anyone to the breakfast table, but I don't welcome nasty comments. I have no desire to change your mind about anything and unless we can remain civil I see no point to talking further."

Dear Bunco,

I don't get the ????????. I say play nice and come to breakfast. I am glad you stopped by again because I wanted to mention to you that Clinton was the guy who started the housing crisis by insisting that everyone should be able to own a home. Look what happened. In many ways that type of thinking is the perfect example of what is wrong with society now. Not everyone should or can own a home and that's the way it is. Not everyone can be a millionaire but everyone can keep trying. As for the "evil" corporations. Well let's see. These corporations employ millions of people at all levels. If they don't pay their "fair" share of taxes it is because the tax code allows that. They aren't breaking the law, they are following it. Change can be a good thing, but not when it calls for the destruction of all the things that have made our nation great. Just look at Greece to see what happens when people expect the government to give them everything from cradle to grave. They end up in the streets with their hands out and their fists in the air. I think that's pathetic.

Thank You for the invite.

I understand that it is easy to blame the housing crisis or people making bad decisions for the state of our economy, but these are only the symptoms of a disease that has been eating us alive for decades. In the Republican world of Supply Side or Trickle Down Economics, the wealthy are given tax breaks to encourage them to invest that money and create more jobs. In turn those who benefit from those jobs purchase products which allows the business profit, grow and create more jobs. This would be a perfect system if the wealthy stayed true to the system. What has happened over the past four decades is that the rich have kept the vast majority of the tax break money and the profits from sale. The evidence of this is the fact that wages have only risen a small percentage over this time period and the accumulation of wealth has skyrocketed. In any monetary system there is fixed amount of currency, when the top percentile accumulate over 90% of the countries currency then it becomes impossible fro the bottom percentile to buy goods. When this happens, businesses lay off workers and lowers wages to make up the difference, which causes there to be even less money at the bottom to purchase product, and so on. When the banks were lending money they were only postponing the inevitable by infusing the bottom with cash. But when it finally became impossible to meet the payments the inevitable occurred. The only way out of this mess is to re-balance the system through taxation and the infusing of cash back into the bottom.

If you constantly remove water from a lake and pump it to the mountains without an adequate feedback to the lake, the lake will run dry.

The accumulated wealth of a country cannot be more than 50% of the total currency or a domino effect takes place that will destroy its economy.

"In any monetary system there is fixed amount of currency..."

Where do you people get this nonsense? The Fed has been increasing the money supply by trillions of dollars in an effort to stimulate the economy! :

You don't know what you are talking about, and therein lies the problem with the ignorant left.

Excellent hub! We are living in Loonytune Land. If it continues, this free society is going to collapse. These OWSers need to get a grip on reality!
