Blueberry Bake and the Professor
64Enough!
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, January 25, 2012. The president gave his State of the Union speech last night and Prof. Stopthebull was listening quite attentively. He is giving a lecture this morning about the speech and he has invited all of us to sit in. Let's prepare a Blueberry Bake for breakfast this morning and head for the lecture hall.
You will need 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, 8 slices of bread cut into 1 inch cubes, 8 ounces of chilled cream cheese cut into 1/8 inch cubes, 8 eggs and 1 and 1/2 cups milk.
Grease an 11 by 7 by 2 inch baking pan. Spread half of the bread into the pan, sprinkle with cream cheese, blueberries and remaining bread.
In a separate bowl, combine eggs and milk and beat well. Pour over bread mixture and cover with aluminum foil. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours and place in a 350 degree preheated oven, covered for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes more, until the top is puffy and the center is set.
You won't be bringing this to class this morning so mix yourself a few Bloody Marys. Bring some for the Professor. He really didn't like the president's speech and he is in need of a pick me up.
Welcome students. First let me thank you for the liquid breakfast. I watched the president's speech last night and was left wondering why it was even televised. His pathetically obvious invitation to Warren Buffett's secretary was embarrassing. His reference to the fact that she paid more taxes than her boss was a lie that has been repeated so often it is beginning to resonate with the population. Clearly, the president is utterly convinced that we the people have the collective intelligence of a flea. When Pres. Obama compares the tax rates of millionaires to "ordinary folks" he never explains that investment income is taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income. There is a good reason for that that he never mentions either. Investment income helps our economy grow and we want to encourage that growth. Of course, the president, despite all his claims to the contrary, has no interest in growing anything but his influence and our deficit.
Aren't you all tired of this charade? Aren't you completely exhausted listening to all the bull about the evil rich people, the greedy corporations and the prayed upon middle class? If you took away all of the millionaires money and threw it back into the economy, it would accomplish nothing. If you punished the greedy corporations by raising their taxes, they would flee our shores at an alarming rate. The president doesn't use facts to explain his position, he uses sound bites. It is very clear how little respect he has for our intelligence.
I didn't hear him talk about his healthcare bill which is causing a lot of harm, nor did he bring up Social Security which is going bankrupt. Not a word about Medicare or Medicaid was heard last night. Our skyrocketing debt was not on the agenda either. This president believes that taxing the rich is key to solving all our problems and making everyone happy, happy, happy. Not once did he mention the nearly 50 percent of the population that doesn't pay a dime in federal taxes. He wants to raise taxes on the rich and he really isn't talking only about the Buffett's in this world. He is talking about hard-working middle class people who earn $250,000 a year or more. He wants to zing it to the corporations too. He is intractable and so out of touch with reality that we should declare a "state of emergency". These past three years have been hell and unless hell is appealing to Americans we had better upset this apple cart and get someone in office who respects our foundations, democracy and the principles of the free market and capitalism. It is now or never. Class dismissed...POP...

Fox newes this morning showed the empty suit talking out of both sides of his mouth. We can't compete with government subsidized corporation in Europe. Then he said we need to help corporations borrow. Hello? He also thinks that a few should work hard, make some money and then give money to those who don't want to work so hard. That's why his campaign staff (the Occupyers) love him. They could protest, piss in churches and wait for their handouts. What a country. If the morons out htere don't smarten up, we will have 4 more years of this crap, and then the country will be ruined forever. I need a drink. BARTENDER.............
POP: I struggled through the SOTU address with plenty of wine. I noticed that his standing ovations were only from a few people which is unusual. I also read the "Fact Check" today, which I really enjoy. Most of what he said was not factual, as we already know. Regardig taxes, he spoke of the people making over $1 million, and of people making less than $100,000. What about the ones in the middle? He doesn't want to raise the tax rate for those under $100,000., but he wants to raise it for others. Like you said, that would not put a dent in our debt. Regarding the wars, he wants to take one half of the savings and pay down our debt, and the other half for nation building (whatever that is). However, we never funded the wars. We borrowed money to pay for them, so there are no savings. I could go on and on, but we all know. One thing I will say, if you are one of the ignorant ones, you will definitely come away from that speech with a good feeling. All will be well - in fantasyland. He is a great tele-promptr reader!
I will be late to the Inn today. I had to get up before dawn, as I have jury duty! I will get to the bar sometime today, so please save me a seat......
It appeared to me that the Prez was attempting to be everything that he truly is not last night to the point of attempting to show patriotism. To use patriotism as a motivation on his part shows the level of desperation his administration has reached to regain their momentum with the people. Sadly, he nor his cronies have any issues with that approach. Right now, far too many people should be uttering..."Fool me once, shame on me..." Thanks Poppy. WB
I didn't bother to watch but did see a few clips of him hugging on the Congress woman from Arizona. A campaign speech from what I gather and another Nero playing his violin while Rome burns. The state of our union is a mess and there are no quick fixes or solutions in sight.
I actually had an eye on it, while I crocheted (which I have to rip out - I was so agitated) listening to him babble his nonsense. Fiddleman had the right idea. I did notice that while people were clapping, they were just going through the motions. Even his peeps were very lackadaisial. How do you stay so thin POP, with all this good food and drink you've got goig on everyday???
Are you going to ask questions on the site? They have a youtube questions section and a certain numbers of questions will be chosen randomly, which Obama will answer live. Whether it truly is random, I do not know, but it might be interesting to know he has to answer them.
BPOP - He suffers from memory lapses and talks pie in the sky. He failed to mention that about 50% of the working people in this nation pay no federal income taxes. If he wants to level the playing field everyone should pay into the kitty.
His treatment of his continuing class warfare was laughable. Injecting "race" into his plan wasn't even mentioned. Words again - empty words. He said that he needs to pay more. Okay Obama, stroke that extra check. He won't.

Little Sister With Giant Brain,
Crap, I could write a book here, but I won't. As I said in a response to a comment on my new hub .. The guy delivers a beautiful speech so soft to the ears, but it's like feeling something nice and warm in your hand, before the God awful smell hits your nose.
You know that this attitude that some people have towards corporations and the rich are something that I've been screaming about. Yes, some of them are greedy, but this notion that you can reach into their pockets and pull out anything you like is the formula for economic suicide. People don't have enormous amounts of money because they are dumb asses. If you try to deprive them of their ability to be competitive, they take their business and the jobs that go along with it to a place where they can be competitive.
Raise taxes to 30% across the board? Is he nuts?! . That means doubling capital gains taxes, and flushing what's left of our economy down the Capital Hill toilet. Crap, I'm writing a book, so I'll shut up and head to Inn!

What would you ask him if he ever sat down at your breakfast table?
President Obama covered a lot of ground is his State of the Union message. In fact, about the only thing he did not talk about was the state of the union.
And we know why.
The speech was packed full of lies and half-truths, which is aggravating, but not surprising from this administration. It's just business as usual, as you said. And you're spot on to recognize (as so many Americans do not) what sort of taxes are being talked about. Nor does anyone in the media, and certainly not the president. That would simply provide too much clarity on the REAL goings on when it comes to taxes, and people would realize that rich people mostly DO pay taxes, and often times much more than the average person considering the average person gets a lot of their taxes back. Minus FICA of course. What the president also fails to recognize when he talks about hitting capital gains and dividends is that if he does this, since most regular people have retirement accounts, and because baby boomers will be entering retirement, that raising taxes on investments WILL impact the rich, sure. But it will also affect Grandma and Grandpa in their retirement years. For albeit a small percentage of soon-to-retire folks, an increase in the taxes they'll have to pay may even be enough to force them to have to stay in the workforce. The cost of drugs and healthcare WILL go up under Obamacare, and taxes being raised on investments will reduce the value of one's portfolio, and the hardest hit will be the ones in or entering retirement.
Excellent as always, Pop.
WillStar, astutely put.
Hello Breakfastpop, interesting hub you have. According to CBS News Polls, 91% of Americans agree with Obama's State of the Union proposals. It's interesting to try to understand all sides to every story. Sometimes I believe Americans spend too much time listening to one mindset without taking time to hear other views. I thought the speech was great and offered hope for better things for the future. It's been such a dark period for the past several years, I've decided to look ahead because things are going to be brighter for us!
I say Mr. breakfastpop, your material is both rather amusing, and interesting! I acknowledge fine work when I see it, so be proud of your work! Until we meet again...

Well, thank you kindly for inviting me to your honorable breakfast table, & I wish you the best of luck on your next writing ventures!
P.S. Ah, Mrs. Breakfastpop. I shall get used to this name.

Interestingly enough, did you catch the little tidbit that Buffet's secretary actually earns upward of $300,000 a year?! Not your typical secretary salary is it? And we were all led to believe she was this poor woman. Looks like she falls into Obama's definition of RICH. So according to Obama, she'd be paying MORE taxes, not less wouldn't she? Oh the way this administration spins it—what a joke!
Try the breakfast bake with Cinnamon Bread! Fantastic!

Pop and Professor,
Thanks for the analysis of the Obama Manifesto. I started to watch and decided I had just paid $125 in TV repairs in December so I turned off the TV before I damaged it. I understand Obama has asked for a 90 second spot from all networks for an addendum to the State of The Union so he can highlight the details of his first term accomplishments.
