Drunken Pancakes and Bad Behavior

Un-American

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, June 29, 2011. What has happened to our country? Are we now so intolerant of opposing points of view that that it brings us down to the level of street thugs? Glenn Beck took his family to a New York City park on Monday night and found himself in the midst of a mob, an angry mob who didn't appreciate his politics or point of view. I can't talk about this on an empty stomach so let's prepare breakfast. Normally, I suggest a Bloody Mary to go along with the meal. This morning I suggest we put the alcohol right in the food.

We will be preparing Drunken Pancakes today. The recipe serves four people. You will need 1 egg, 3/4 cup milk, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons pear liqueur or brandy, 1 ripe pear peeled and diced, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 cup self-rising flour. Beat egg in a mixing bowl. Add milk, vegetable oil, pear liqueur and diced pear. Whisk ingredients together. Add sugar and flour to wet ingredients. Be gentle and don't over stir. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes. Drink some pear liqueur. For each pancake, pour about 1/4 cup of the batter onto a lightly greased griddle set to 350 degrees. When you see bubbles form on top, flip the pancakes. Put a little butter on the pancake while it cooks. When the pancakes are cooked through, plate them, sit back and try to relax. You may need some more liqueur.

Glenn Beck saw firsthand what ignorance and too many people in one place can do. People screamed out that they hated what he stood for, that he wasn't welcome in New York City. Someone tossed a drink at his wife. He commented that all they needed was a rope because there already were trees. The mobs behavior was disgusting, inexcusable and ignorant. That's what mobs are, ignorant.

Is this what our society has become? Have we finally and completely lost our way? Decency and respect for other opinions have evolved into angry bitter attacks upon anyone and anything that is perceived to be different. Evidence of this fall from grace is all around us. We see comedians on television attacking people like Sarah Palin in the most vicious of ways. We see elected officials doing the same thing. When the Tea party first emerged, Democrats like Nancy Pelosi immediately started calling them "teabaggers". In fact the president was part of the problem, dismissing the importance of Americans acting like Americans. Now the intolerant liberal left is going after Michele Bachmann. Truth is no longer valued in this new America. We are now a country that takes sides when the issues aren't even clear. We are now a country that feels it is okay to attack Glenn Beck and his family, even though they probably haven't a clue what Mr. Beck believes in. Ignorance, bigotry and fear is at the core of all of this.

Critical thinking is no longer valued. The "truth" means nothing. Facts are statements meant to be twisted, ignored or dismissed. Character assassination is a new sport. Freedom of speech has been devalued. The press is biased, useless and dangerous. Congress is intractable and unprofessional. The president is detached and hollow and entirely focused on his re-election.

The fourth of July is almost upon us. Is it too late to bring back the America we once were? Is it too late to bring honor back to our country and to our Flag? Is it too late to bring back good behavior? Can we learn to solve our problems using a common sense fact based approach? I want to believe that we can save our country and ourselves. May God Bless America...POP...

Pop,

I hope that we live to see a return to civility and good manners but I fear that we need to survive a while for that. The President can't take time to try and solve the debt financing situation but he can come up with an Afghanistan plan that wasn't in the dossier from his generals.

Hail General Obama!!!!!!!!

Good morning Tom,

Nothing Obama does makes sense. He is just not fit for the job. As for the people who toss insults and drinks, they are unfit to walk among us. See you at the Inn.

I didn't see this but nothing surprises me this day and time. The good book says where there is no vision, the people perish. Without strong leadership and high ideals our country is on a downward spiral, its hard to be optimistic.

The liberal left is intolerant of any view that is different from theirs. They will twist the truth and just make up blatant lies. And they are stupid. They showed their stupidity to Glenn Beck and his family. To me, this way left liberalism is something new that jumped out in the open when Obumma was elected. To me, it is like the rise of the nazis. The left is full of hate and tolerates nothing but their beliefs. It is scary. This is why I drink. BARTENDER...........

Voted up. It's so sad that so many men lost their lives for what our country is now *or is becoming. Even more so that most people have their head in the sand and don't even get it. It's a shame.

BPop seeing what America has become can sometimes get me really depressed. The treatment of Beck and his family was disgusting. And what is even more disgusting is that lefties feel totally justified in doing this. I said well over a year ago that America is now in a civil war. Because this war is being thought with the internet, and newspapers now.

Why should we be surprised at the lack of courtesy and civility in the U.S. today? After all, children model their parents and citizens model their leaders' selfish inconsiderate behavior.

You were so on the mark, bp, with your statement: "The president is detached and hollow and entirely focused on his re-election."

Good morning drbj,

Watching the behavior of all the so-called adults, I can't imagine what their children will turn into. This "bad behavior" is everywhere, absolutely everywhere. See you at the Inn where life is still civil.

Hi Pop! We can disagree without being disagreeable. Some people just don't get it.

"We are now a country that takes sides when the issues aren't even clear."

"Critical thinking is no longer valued."

"The "truth" means nothing."

"Facts are statements meant to be twisted, ignored or dismissed."

"Character assassination is a new sport."

All very true and profound observations, Pop!

Morning POP...I just erased my original comment, not wanting to stain your bodacious Hub with my angry rants...I'll simply state the obvious: There are two Americas, one is comprised of urbanized, big city Americans, and those Americans that choose to live in smaller cities, towns, and villages...In which part of America do you think good behaviour still exists, where Truth is valued, and respect for your neighbor is a given...

Where do we have flash mobs, riots, and mass juvenile disruption..? Where do we have corruption at every level of government..? Where do we have " newspapers " that promote racial tension, anger, and social discontent..?

Enough already...See you at the tavern, Pop...I'm drinking lemonade to cool down and chill out before I really get mad...Larry

I've spent a good part of this morning dealing with the angry left, and as always, their complaints are vague dislikes of corporations, conservatism, and 'the rich'. I asked any one of them to come up with a Hub of specific complaints and provable wrongs, but I'm sure there won't be one. They don't seem to realize that their anger is baseless, and their demands are without merit.

Ann Coulter just wrote a book about angry, leftist, mob mentality, and the left seems hell-bent to prove her to be spot-on correct!

Dear maven,

I don't think this kind of behavior is strictly a "city" thing. I think it has spread to the small town as well. Big city, more people, more problems. Little town still has the potential for "bad" behavior. See you at the Inn. At least, we can count on the fact that we will be in the company of good people.

POP, I hadn't heard about this but it doesn't surprise me either. They are even attacking Bristol Palin verbally which is pathetic. I am very concerned that we may see more violence during this election season as I don't ever remember people being as angry as they are now. In Wisconsin we even supposedly had one judge physically attack another and of course one was a liberal and one was a conservative. I pray our country curtains back to one of civility and consideration of other people's feelings but my hope is slim. Great hub that you always tell it like it is.

This See you at the inn.

Dear Pamela,

If this keeps up Congress will be battling things out with their fists. All this anger and no solutions to our problems. I fear we will end up like Greece, with a deranged and out of control populace that wants something for nothing. See you at the Inn. It's safe in there.

The war between Good and Evil, Light and Shadow, Positive and Negative, exists in virtually all great literature, movies, plays, you name it--because, quite frankly, it is REAL. In today's fog of political correctness, that fact is deliberately obscured. If we're not "allowed" to call Evil EVIL, Evil figures it gets an edge in the game.

Which it does.

However, I "done said all that to say all this": Those serving the Dark side of the Force NEVER quit working toward their goals, NEVER admit defeat, and are for that very reason a danger to be considered at every turn. In every generation.

WHICH MEANS that we who consciously choose to take the high road must not EVER admit defeat EITHER. Quite frankly, this ol' world is in constant flux; neither side is ever going to "wipe out" the other completely. The best we can hope for is to push back at the "Invaders and Oppressors" hard enough (i.e. with all we've got) to create that clear space in the middle, that oasis of personal Liberty and freedom where each new generation can grow and flourish in strength and awareness.

The battles are endless...but they are also worth it.

Little Sister With Giant Brain And Bookoo Compassion,

NO! It's not too late. It's the perfect storm for making Americans realize their true identies as Americans. This will be the subject of my speach in Des Moines Patti. I knew who I was as a person but had no idea who I was as an American until the shit hit the fan. That's sad, but it's true. People unite in a beautiful way in disasters and rebuild. I was in San Jose Oct. 17th 1989 when the earth quake hit. I was at my home in Houston through Hurricane Ike. A crisis brings out the best in most people. A good plan and a positive attitude can over come anything, and I've got both. Be cool, but breath fire my sister.

Good hub. Breakfast sounds great. The trouble with the left, the progressives & the America haters is they have been organized a long, long, long time. They are backed by big money from the likes of George Soros, and group themselves in little hate groups like Code Pink, Huffington Post, Media Matters, Acorn etc., etc.

While the conservatives have been going about their lives, working and taking care of their families and supporting liberal agendas with their hard earned tax money, the left has organized and spread and turned much of the country in to muliticulturalists and welfare cases.

We have a lot of catching up to do Pop.

Could it be that there is an organizer somewhere who siezed his chance to give his followers a false sense of power and victory? An organizer who had heard before hand that Mr. Glenn Beck was planning to leave, and who told his followers 'if we all get together and scare him, he'll leave'? If so, it was less about Glenn Beck than it was about the organizer establishing himself as leader of the pack.
