Grandma's Lost Bread On Manic Monday
56Sticks and Stones
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, October 26, 2009 and I am feeling a bit manic. Let's prepare a delicious breakfast before we stir things up this morning. Today I will be preparing Grandma's Lost Bread. If you want to jump in beside me, you will need 6 eggs, 2 tablespoons vanilla, 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1/2 cup whole milk and 1/2 cup of margarine and 1 loaf of bread.
Mix all ingredients together. Melt margarine in frying pan. Dip bread in mixture and fry until bread is light brown. Voila! It's done and so delicious, no syrup is needed.
Sadly, even Grandma's bread can't remove the sour taste I have in my mouth this morning. Time Magazine columnist Joe Klein, who always manages to put me in knots, has done it again. In a column he wrote about the President's battle with Fox News he managed to slam Fox at the same time that he suggested that the battle diminished the office of the Presidency and the President himself. I couldn't agree more with the latter part of his assessment, but here is where we part company. Klein defines Fox as a peddler of "a fair amount of hateful crap that borders on "sedition" and that most of it is "flat-out untrue".
My eyes began to pop out of my head when he brought up the ACORN scandal and the Van Jone's debacle. In his view, both were overblown beyond their actual importance. Clearly, Mr. Klein doesn't have an aversion to corruption on the public dime or to a radical Marxist in a position of influence in the White House.
When Mr. Klein discusses Fox News he does so by characterizing it as an organization that spreads its lies to a "demographic sliver of an audience". The fact that that "sliver" represents the highest ratings on television does not deter Mr. Klein from his rant. He deftly dismisses Fox viewers as "wingnuts". Just for purposes of "not" needed clarification, those" wingnuts" would be us, the breakfstpoppers and a large amount of Republicans, Independents and moderate Democrats, as well.
When is all this childish, embarrassing name-calling going to stop? Doesn't the President have anything more important to do than declare war on Fox? Someone has to sit him down and tell him that we are actually engaged in 2 real wars that require his immediate attention. Joe Klein isn't likely to do it. His advisors don't seem that interested in reminding him about his real responsibilities. General McChrystal tried to apprise him of the situation in Afghanistan, but still Obama is hopping on planes and campaigning while our soldiers wait for help.
I think the job is going to fall squarely on the shoulders of the "wingnuts". We are going to have to remind this President of his duties and of what our country holds dear. We must keep speaking out, keep those cards and letters coming and then we must vote every single one of these "hateful, venom spewing, unresponsive, misguided elected officials out of Washington and out of our lives.
This "wing-nut" has worked up an appetite again. I need another piece of Grandma's Bread to settle me down.
See you at the POP awards tomorrow. Until then, be careful out there. It's not safe for "wing-nuts" like us...POP...
Pop, Time always was a left wing rag. I alway subscribed to US News and World Report.
The president is very busy frivilousy declaring a State Of Emergency for a mild flu virus. The only emergeny involved with H1N1 is the distribution of the vaccine which was taken over by the Federal Government. The CDC took charge of distribution.
I think Obama really wanted the additional POWER that results when a State of emergency is declared.
Morning Pop, When Bush was in office he got it from all sides but he didn't act like a child who just lost his favorite toy. Yes, I too quit reading Time Magazine. My blood pressure just can't take it. Great article and yes we need to keep up the letters, phone calls, etc. and really work as the 2010 election nears to upset the balance of congress a bit. From one wingnut to another, have a good day.
I would like to know where all the leftist, socialist, Marxist, etc. politicians and columnists were hiding before this president took office. It just seems they have crawled out from under a rock. These are people who think it is OK to screw up health care for millions of people to help maybe 14 people, to think it a good idea that an avowed Communist should be a czar, to think an admirer of the philosophy of chairman Mao should be in a position of influence, etc. It is just shocking. I do not remember such left leaning losers at any time in my life. Hopefully, by the 2010 elections, most of the electorate that voted these things into office will have a brain implant or something that will toss Pelosis, Reids, Rangles, Schumers etc the hell out of office. If not, the ride will be rougher than we thought. BARTENDER...
Heah Pop. great hub.my friend spastic sashaon youtube points out that Obama doesn't have any connections in the military. Nada.Zilch. No friends, siblings. Oh yeah Uncle charlie that he pulled out of his hat for shutting down Auschwitz. Unfortunately, we don't hear too much of him, was he at the big inauguration?
Gerald Warner, UK Telegraph says he's "a bare-fisted politician at home and a Pantywaist Abroad"
I was wondering if you might have some vegetarian, eggless recipes?
See ya
Pop
Ironically I’m working on my next Hub dealing with the same subject; Obama’s war on Fox News. What he’s up to is obvious, he’s withdrawing from the real war to satisfy his liberal base so he’s creating a diversion by declaring war on his only organized critic which also pleases his liberal base. Typical move you would expect from a Megalomaniac who can’t stand any form of criticism!
POP: Every year, we hear the same thing around flu season - we won't have enough vaccine - Now, with the H1N1 health scare, and Obama issuing a state of emergency, he has transferred the issue. The only thing I can say is that if this ONE THING cannot be handled properly by the government, how will they handle healthcare for millions?
I already know the answer - poorly.
Regarding FOX news, FOX should be happy, since their ratings are skyrocketing. The more the White house complains, the more people are watching FOX. If I was the CEO of FOX news, I'd send a thank you card to Obama.
I was watching some of the Sunday morning news shows, not FOX, to see what they were saying. Most journalists feel that Obama will dance around the Afghanistan issue by sending some, but not all of the troops McCrystal needs, which, in essence, is doing nothing.
The only thing I can see is that Obama is NOT a decision-maker. We need a leader. Instead, he'll be off to Africa (WHY????), and Asia. I am beginning to think he's just on a trip around the world at our expense.
I'm rambling, and I apologize. Great hub as usual.
See you later at the bar -save me a seat....
Since I appear predominantly on the “wing-nut” / Constitutional Conservative / Rightwing extremist list let me just shout, very loudly, as an accused “wing-nut;”
I, like many of us, are tired of BEING SCREWED.
Take care of the real business at hand and forget all feel good, wishy-washy, Kum-by-ya crap. Good Hub Pop.
dear pop, great hub today. typing with one hand while holding 22 pound baby in other, and making oragami swans with my feet out of old TIME magazines, thus the lack of capitalization, proper grammar and/or spelling. my apologies, but you know how it can be with 22 pound babies, and oragami. i am shocked and appalled by this waste of time attack on fox news. sometimes i do watch fox, rarely watch msnbc because the bile tends to collect in my throat, hardly ever watch the network news and most times listen to npr, and i do this to learn about different points of view, to educate myself so i can make a most informed decision. that is the america i know and love and want to preserve for my children. freedom of ideas, expression, differing opinions. it is terribly frightening to silence opposition because they oppose a specific agenda. that is un-American.
may my baby and i join you at the bar?
Morning POP, I'm not in a funny mood this morning, Obama is tying up traffic in our city, he came to campaign, but will 'stop' in for a minute to say hi to the soldiers. I wrote about why Msnbc needs Obama, and everywhere I look it's always about giving favors to the people who will promote his agenda. Time magazine has not seen the inside of my house in months, Obama was on the cover 23 times, does that tell you anything? Have a great day.
Pop, great breakfast.I have done this before but usually still use syrup. (I know, I am a sugar junkie.) Ihad my yearly subscription cancelled years ago. The office of the Presidency has diminished by this behavior and so has the prestige of our Congress. Stay the course until it is the peoples turn to really tell them what we think.
Thanks for dinner, sorry I rarely make it to breakfast. Have to "educate" the wee ones you know? You have now given me a topic for current events on Friday. One of the students asked me last week why the President was once again doing Lettermen's show; I don't know that he really appeared last week, but I am going to let the kids ride with their debate on "icon" -vs- "leader." Should be interesting, my eighth graders are an unbelievably insightful group. I'll let you know what happens!
Have a great evening, and thanks again!
Pino Krisio,
You hit it on the head with this fiasco of a swine flu shortage. It seems that everything the gov't touches goes awry. God help us if they get control of our healthcare.
Pop, loved your hub and your breakfast!
Hey Pop, why do you waste you time reading this Joe Klein works. I don't waste my time on such idiots.
Keep on Hubbing!
I read it late BP but your once again right on target, I just read after a long long time the Mayflower Compact, a document written by a people with real ideals. Where have they all gone?
Robert Ballard
I had closed my hub account but reopened under my nickname given to me by son Gary. You can read them under Putz Ballard
Thanks for keeping my breakfast warm.
The dignity of the President's office has been exponentially reduced. Say what you will about Bush, but he conducted himself with equanimity throughout his tenure. His behavior demonstrated none of largess or petulance currently embodied by the Obama administration.
Well written pop
Our complancency did not begin with president Obama but we need to end it with him.
I like the way your brain thinks, makes me feel alive listening to what your thinking, very cool...Keep it up ...PS Now I Know Why I bookmarked your page ;-) ...Hope you are doing well,
This whiny President has totally forgotten he is the President OF ALL THE PEOPLE! It's a good thing Fox News is so huge they can't be harmed by this BLATANT attempt to shut down a media outlet so that the President can push through all of his agenda without a hitch! Sigh...
Thank you for always showing us the error of this President's way!
And your bread recipe made my mouth water! ;-)
Please listen to JFK's Fatal Speech given just 10 days before his assassination
