Hawaii Twist and A Speech
53Snooze
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Last night President Obama gave a speech from the Oval Office. It was only the second time that he has actually done something like this so I suppose we should commend him on his ability to find the office. Before we dissect the speech let's prepare a smoothie called the Hawaii Twist in President Obama's honor. He says he was born there. You will need 1 coarsely chopped small banana, 1 (16) ounce can of pineapple juice, 3 tablespoons coconut milk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Slice banana, place in a blender, pour in pineapple juice, coconut milk nd sugar. Blend until smooth. Now pour the mixture into a glass, put your feet up and let's talk about last night's speech.
First of all was the President actually awake during the speech? Frankly, I kept nodding off and I had to slap myself silly just to keep from falling off the couch. Let's be honest, Obama looked really, really strange. He was stiff as a board and if he clasped his hands together any tighter his circulation would have stopped. He reminded me of Nancy Botox Pelosi in his complete inability to register any facial expressions.
His words rang hollow and his message couldn't have been clearer. He could care less about the war in Iraq. He didn't even seem happy announcing the end to our combat mission. I grew tired of his reference to "turning the page". Clearly, the wars were never a book he was reading or invested in, so he was anxious to tell us that it was time to move on. I found it very strange that he didn't even say these things with any sense of relief or accomplishment. He reminded me of a kidnap victim who was told to say certain things while his captor held a gun to his head.
He gave a passing nod to former President George Bush, of course, reminding everyone that he and Mr. Bush disagreed about the war from the beginning. He also defended his lack of support for George Bush's policies by telling all of us that there were patriots on both sides of the war. Those that supported it, Mr. Bush, and those that opposed it, Mr. Obama.
For a war that has been going on for so long, his speech was rather short and perfunctory. He somehow segued from the war to the economy and left his audience, in my view, very uninspired. We still have troops in Iraq and we are still committed to the war in Afghanistan, but we have a President who is disengaged from the road ahead. Foreign policy is just not his bag, except the part where he gets to bow deeply to our enemies. We need a Commander and we need a leader and his name is not Obama...POP...

Pop,
I should have consulted you I just published my take on this speech. We have slightly differing views, but not too much.
Pop, I missed it, forgot how to turn on the TV. So I'll take my comment to echo Hammer, obama is not a leader just a miserable puppet, who reads what others write well, 50
I wonder if we went to thee oval office this morning we would find Obumma still sitting behind the desk with his hands clasped. He may have taken a few sips of Pelosi's Botox. His appearance did not change once. You know the hall of presidents at Disney World where there are anamatronic models of all our presidents, he looked just like one of them..Man, they could move the real thing right there and no one would know it was actually Obumma. Then we take the anamatronic Obumma and put him in the white house and no one would know the difference. I'll drink to that. BARTENDER.........
Pop,
I was so proud of myself for being a grown up and watching the entire speech, sad though it was. I actually rewound it to see his kind words for Bush a 2nd time, I am surprised they didn't stick in throat. At least he got back to his usual blame Bush crap soon enough. Like the others have said before, this man is a lost soul who really wanted the job, but is clueless as to how to be a leader. We knew already, but a great campaigner does NOT necessarily mean a great president!
POP: I missed last night's performance. From what you say, I didn't miss much, except I am not able to make a personal comment. I'll echo Hmrjmr, as well.
I assume that pulling the troops out does not mean that everyone is going home. Korea comes to mind.
Anyway, I'm sorry I missed it (maybe not). When we get to the bar, I'll be holding auditions, and the one who can mimic Obamagiving his speech the best will get free drinks from me for the week. I'm off to the bar - I have to get a good seat.....
I didn't bother watching and only saw a small excerpt. The man has no personality. How he managed to get elected is a puzzlement.
I was still driving home from work when the speech came on , but he sounded so wooden.
I'm still not so sure what the point was? We still have 50 thousand fighting men and women over there, Did we do some good? Who knows! I'm glad we have a base there, since the next war with Iran will be happening soon! We would have started it yesterday if Bush was still in office! LOL, hey the man gets stuff done! Obama was bored because military is boring to liberals, its somethhing barbaric and beneath them! They don't tear up when they hear of someone elses child dieing overseas the way we do! Liberals don't drive to the edge of town everytime they hear one of our own is coming home in a casket! like we do! They don't understand the love and admiration for this country and what it means the way we do! They see something that needs to be destroyed and rebuilt in their image!
Morning POP...We had our first look at the kings newly redecorated oval office last night...Phase 2 will be in two years when we remove the present occupant and his Marxist sycophants from that hallowed room...
The king asked Americans to be prepared for further sacrifices...Does he mean like the 7 vacations he has taken this year..? Some sacrifice...Reminds me of Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burns.
See you at the tavern with a Hawaii twist in hand...The color matches the oval office...I wonder what Winston would have said about the yellow decor...Larry
Morning POP, the Manchurian President made a speech to show off his new decor. I listened with notepad wide open hoping to take notes, but in the end it was still empty. I'm not sure what the point was, except to remind us that things have been so bad in the past (cough) that we have to look forward to a new and shiny future where the birds will sing, and the sun will shine, because all is well in Iraq, now that he is presidente. What he failed to mention is that His job as president is to uphold the constitution to protect our borders, not to sue one of the 57 states, like AZ.
POP, can you send me a link?
Pop, I missed the speech last night, so thanks for a review. But I've just seen a fragment on the news. He does look strange, maybe he had botox :)
All I can figure is that he acted his way through the campaign, (we all saw that end as soon as he was elected). So now he's trying to 'act' Presidential. Maybe next time he'll put on a sweater like Jimmy Carter did when he told us the good days were over.
I wasn't even aware he was going to be on tv last night -I guess I was too distracted with the Americans who really do have talent.
When I was watching Obummy on TV last night, I was thinking some new behavioral consultants are advising him about his nonverbal actions - that's why he was so staid and with little animation. And did you notice there was finally a U.S. flag behind him? More consulting advice no doubt.
Thanks for the speech coverage, breakfastpop. I usually try to watch all prime time speeches our presidents give, but missed this one.
Did Obama happen to mention that he's bringing the troops home in spite of the fact that in 2008 he proclaimed the surge would fail?
LOL! Yes, well, makes you wonder what kind of dictionary Obama uses?? Maybe he bought a close-out edition at Socialists-R-Us. See you at the bar.
I love this-You and Tom both hubbed about this speech and had two differen't views of it. This is why some like Obama and some don't as we all see things in our own way. Very good hub and very interesting to see the differences in two hubs about the same thing. Cool.
I think he was hiding his delight in knowing that he doesn't have much left to do to knock us to our knees and even begrudged having to address us at all! That or he is tired of O'Reilly's body language lady evaluating his speeches and "giving him away"!!!!!
Great job!
That's just it though, Pop. There's nothing presidential or commanding about this guy. He just doesn't seem too involved with America. And coming from a president, I can't think of anything worse. His policies aside, he has no passion when he sees those stars and stripes wave. His heart doesn't even miss a beat. I wonder if he even notices the flag?
Pop, I only caught a part of the speech and my husband taped it so I could watch it later. I never watched it yesterday as I was sick and had a doctor appt. After reading your hub and the comments I see I didn't miss a thing. He is pathetic and that never changes.
You are so right Pop; he looked absent and seemed to be in a trance. He is running out of fuel after re-decorating the Oval Office with so many pictures of the "precious family". Is this something we should be proud about? Sad way to make an announcement about the end of a war that accomplished nothing while claiming so many lives
My feeling totally, Poppy...well said! WB

This President is a walking confirmation that you can be in charge but that doesn't make you a leader. Sad for us.
