Hawaiian French Toast and a Fairy Tale
70Danger!
Good morning beloved breakfastpoppers. Today is Fairy Tale Friday, March 11 in the year of our kingdom 2011. The land of Japan suffered a massive earthquake and tsunami and now the devastating tsunami is heading for Hawaii and the West Coast of our kingdom. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims of nature's wrath. In a way the tsunami is a metaphor for events unfolding in our own kingdom and across the world. Let's prepare our morning repast and meet in the forest near the babbling brook. We need to take some time to reflect on recent events and what it says about the state of our union.
Today we will be preparing Hawaiian French Toast. You will need 1 egg, slightly beaten, 1/3 cup milk, 8 slices of firm bread, 2 tablespoons soft butter, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons orange juice, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons orange zest and 2 tablespoons flaked coconut. Combine eggs and milk. In a separate bowl combine remaining ingredients except for the bread. Dip the bread in milk mixture and arrange on a cookie sheet that you have greased quite well. Place the cookie sheet in your hearth that has been preheated to 450 degrees. Bake for about 6 minutes or until bread is browned on the bottom. Turn bread over and spread with reserved mixture. Bake an additional three minutes or until bottom of bread is brown and the top is bubbly. Wrap up your toast, pick up a blanket and reach into the future for some ant repellent. See you by the Babbling Brook.
Welcome, my dear friends. Our kingdom is in turmoil and our King seems to be stirring the pot of dissent. A portion of our land called Wisconsin, is engaged in an epic battle between the need to save the state from bankruptcy and the desire of the unions and the Democrats to retain their power. Fourteen Senators are in hiding, which is unbelievable not to mention unacceptable and the King's press secretary Jay Corny said that Prince Scott Walker's decision to force a bill on public employee union bargaining rights through the Senate was a clear sign that the Prince's top priority was not budget cutting. Perhaps the new press secretary is suffering from selective memory loss. Does he not remember the ugly and unpopular health care bill that was forced through the Congress and into the laps of an unwilling public? King Teleprompter, through his press secretary, and through his own direct remarks is undermining Prince Walker and once again involving himself in matters that are better left to the state. I suppose the King is just trying to hold onto the votes of all the protesters. After all, they put the King in the castle and he owes them big time. I wonder if the King was at all disturbed by the behavior of the protesters as they stormed the capitol building in Wisconsin. This group bore no resemblance to the rallies held by the Tea Party which were calm and respectful. Oh, but wait, I forgot. King Teleprompter never really saw the rally outside the castle when the Tea Party gathered.
I find it ironic, my friends, that just this week the King held a conference in the castle on bullying in the schools. While he discussed this important issue, union thugs in Wisconsin were attacking a female state worker who refused to allow them to use her electronic pass to get them in the building where she worked. I wonder King Teleprompter, does this type of despicable behavior bother you as well or do you just consider it to be the Chicago way of doing business?
Kingdoms far away are imploding, innocent people are dying, union thugs in our land are growing more violent, elected officials are going underground and our King is taking a back seat to most of it, except of course, any opportunity he has to support the behavior of the unions. We are experiencing a tsunami of our own in the kingdom but this one is manmade and regrettable. It is time to stand firm and put our collective fingers in the dam before all that we have worked for is washed away...POP...

Went to the hill
To fetch some union rights
They both fell down
And hit the ground
And landed in a Motel Six!

POP - This is the result of electing a professor instead of a leader. Much more to come in the next two years. Let's hope we can get a good candidate from somewhere to beat him. We need to contemplate who it might be over a beer and some pizza. I'm bringing the peperoni! Congrats on 500 followers!
POP: 500 of us following your insights into our kingdom's struggles. Congratulations!
Our king sticks his nose in business that does not concern him, and remains silent on the business that he should be doing. He just busies himself and never accomplishes anything, unless he contributes to a state's unrest. He is a shameful leader.
I'm off to the bar now, Hmrjmr is bringing the pepperoni, and I'm ordering the pizza, so, someone, please save me a seat....
Double double toil and trouble give us what we want or we’ll reduce your state to rubble; hey uuuuuuh uuuuuuuh Michelle uuuuuh bring me another eye of newt will ya?
Is that Richard Trumka over there; “damn the police full speed ahead. Burn the capital to the ground; don’t stop to reload use your rifle butt. Oooooops I didn’t know the press was here.” This is all the fault of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh; see how they put these Republican Law makers under their spell so they would take away our rights. What’s that no sireeeeeee it’s not about balancing any budget it’s pure and simple union busting I tell you pure and simple union busting! Whatta ya mean the state’s going bankrupt; there are still plenty of people out there not paying enough taxes. What’s that; their houses are underwater and they can’t afford to feed their kids; what do I care, they are not my kids; unless of course they are union members with union kids but then they would be out here with us wouldn’t they?
Peek –a-boo is it safe to come out now? Me and my fellow fourteen were just wondering; do we get paid for the three weeks we were in Illinois? Well you could say we did the people more good while we were in hiding because after all we are Democrats and all we do when we’re here is figure out ways to get more of your money so actually you fared better without us!
Hey Jay Corny, uuuuuuuuh get over here by my Cauldron; I’m too busy whipping up this portion; uuuuuuuh gonna take the old wagon back on the campaign trail in a couple of months so I need plenty of this snake oil. Uuuuuuuh tell the good folks what a lying treacherous traitor that Scott Walker is! Tell them how he had the nerve to actually do what he promised the people who elected him he would do; I mean, what kind of Politician is that. You uuuuuuuuuuh tell em Jay; gotta get back to my brew!
Weeeeellllllll my uuuuuuuh name is Jay Corny and I’m here to tell you if you’re just patient and allow my boss’s health care bill to work it’s magic you will see in a couple of decades, all your problems will disappear. No if you’ll just pick up the pitch forks we have provided and fall in at the back of the mass movement let’s take that Capitol Building and return it to its rightful owners; no I’m not talking about the people of Wisconsin; those boobs elected Walker; I’m talking about Richard Trumka and the unions! And by the way your orders are to shoot on sight any of those pesky Tea Partiers that may show up!
Uuuuuuuuh Michelle, better hurry or you’ll be late for your school bulling speech. Gotta go spread the word we will not tolerate bullying under any circumstances. Hey Trumka, what’s the hold up; you should have already busted down the doors of the state capitol by now. What guards; just roll over them and trample them underfoot; do I have to do everything myself. Just this very morning while shaving my youngest asked me; Daddy have you taken over the capital building in Wisconsin yet. Now you don’t want me to disappoint my daughter do you?
What is going on in Wisconsin is a disgrace. Oh, and what is going on in Washington is a disgrace. Who is disgracing the kingdom? The damn democraps, that's who. These are people, in Wisconsin, who do not want to work hard. They want the "entitlements." They want the tax payers to give them what most people don not get. In Washington the democraps are wealthy and want to give everything to those who do not want to work hard. This, all on the backs of those who work hard. These MFers in unions where the members work for governments do not know what it means to move ahead in a career on their own merits. And the democraps feed this type of behavior. In the last few years the democraps have show how vile and disgusting they are and should be henceforth known as socialists and communists. I am going to the inn as I have had enough of this forest and the ants. INNKEEPER.........
Pop
Whatta you think about turning this commentary into a blog; This is the Winter of our Discontent?
500 followers ? Yay BPop.I would also like to mention the silence of our King as Peter King , Scott Walker and the other Wisconsin congressperson had recieved deat threats. I thought he was calling for more civil dialogue.
Morning POP...For some reason I can't get really worked up about the plight of those poor 6 figure teachers and street sweepers, the bloated fire and police departments where more folks push paper and count beans than actually work the streets or put out fires...They seem to have forgotten that they work for the taxpayer, not their unions...
What bargaining rights are we talking about ? do you mean the union's right to bargain with those they put in power..? What kind of bargaining is that..? Those politicos don't represent the taxpayer, they are beholden to the very folks that they are bargaining with...utter BS...
If Obama wants to take on bullying why isn't he holding up the despicable actions of the union thugs in Madison that are attacking women..?
Obama is doing what we in management used to call activity avoidance...that is, rather than tackle the real problems he seeks opportunities to do those activities with which he is most familiar with, much like a manager who was a former dispatcher that spends most of his time in the dispatch office rather than face the more contentious problems elsewhere...
See you at the tavern, POP...I hope Pino held off on the anchovies...We will celebrate your 500th follower with toasts to your penetrating wit and astute commentary...Larry
Incredible poem...nice ending! LOL! You nailed the King on this one...he is pandering to the vote as is his normal behavior. He has no shame and freely shows that loyal support to the thugs who put him in office like unions and Soros organization. In some ways, he is truly the most transparent person who has ever held the office. He truly does not give a tinker's damn if it is apparent to you that he is willing to manipulate the system for his own well-being. There should be a rule in English useage which states that the terms "Obama" and "leadership" cannot appear in the same sentence for the are counterweights to each other. When he finally does leave office, there will be a greater sense of relief in the American public than when Richard Nixon made his last flight out of town. At least then he can retire on the public dole and go to work full time rigging elections in Chicago...the kind of work he really understands. WB
POP, Congrats on 500 fans!
It is maddening that Scott Walker and other Republicans are receiving death threats while the Dems are hiding their heads under a pillow at Motel 6 in Illinois. These union thugs are despicable and Obama is going to do what he's always done, defend them or pretend it's not happening at all. Obama's not capable of running Mayberry, let alone United States of America
Since we have such great food coming to the end tonight the drinks are on me.
UMMMMMM..Yes Great Thanks!!
Pop, 500 trailers? have you checked to make sure their lights are working? Congrats! Wisconsin is in a sad turmoil and it's hurting every one, sad state, and I have yet to see about the tsunami and earth quake, a bad day for so many, 50
Wow, Breakfastpops, you've scored a Home Run with this Hub and Fun Poem at the End. You keep us so well informed, thank you from the bottom of my little Hubber Heart! Good Breakfast too!
How miserable they must be at the Motel 6, you have to bring your own shampoo there!
POP: I'm speaking of King Teleprompter!
Pop, check out this hub by Habee, I think the 5th video down shows the fish by net casting. Some great recipes and a long but great hub!

enjoy, 50
It is totally unbelievable these (can we even call them people at this point, and surely not respectable or ones with any integrity at all) people are sill in hiding. Why do they still have jobs, and when is the castle of the king going to be invaded in such a manner. As he sits watching all this go on, certainly at some point he must realize that he is next. What would he do if the whole country turned up at his door? Take the first helicopter back to Kenya??
Breakfast was great, and as I am always fashionably late for everything...was busy watching the events unfold with the rising water in CA and viewing maps of destruction as to high tides elsewhere in our kingdom.
Everyone please check out this link:

We MUST take our kingdom back...
Pop,
When I heard Carney say the words "force a bill.....on the senate, I thought my head would explode after the health reform bill was ploughed through by bribery...Ugh..I can't stand it. Wow, we should celebrate tonight with a toast to your achievement..500 followers..that's a tribute to your politically savvy and witty writings..See you at the Inn..I'll hurry and get there before you all leave. I hope I get there in time to buy you a bottle of vino.
I'm sorry, POP, I can't seem to concentrate on anything but the devastation in Japan. I was concerned yesterday as my sis lives in Hawaii and my bro in Northern CA. I'm glad they were spared. Now, my greatest fear about the nuclear plant is sounding more and more like the next catastrophe with an explosion today and all those people trapped with nowhere to go. A meltdown would have far reaching consequences and today I'm going to pray for all of us. Sorry I'm off topic today...but, I did want to stop in and say Hello, my friend.
Dear, Dear Pop... you are surely a voice crying out! And you say what needs to be said with wisdon, understanding, with logic and foresight too!
It seems to me the natural disasters we are seeing are coming more and more often. And with more and more devestation. Maybe the king should read scripture where the Creator did things in the past so that "... They will know I am God". Then set his course toward rightness rather than Big Business.
Thanks for breakfast yesterday!
...generally speaking I am 'apolitical' and my tummy dosen't take any sides either - but it certainly starts rumbling when I come here to your hubs and I salivate
over all of your wonderful recipes - not to say I don't appreciate your fine mind and superior intellect - but hunger, as you know, is the most powerful 'desire' on earth - lol lol - I sincerely hope all is well with you - and I really do love your concept and idea here - no one else does what you do!!!!!
Good Morning all...RunAbstract has the most valid point of all. It is time now, not to fear, but to turn to the Lord in praise and worship. Fear does not come from God. He has stated in His Word these things will come to pass should His Word not be adhered to. Soon the entire world will know He is Lord and will on bended knee worship Him alone. Do not fear, for if you are with Christ Jesus, He will carry you and never forsake nor leave you.
This may not be the place to ask but I bet an answer can be found here. So what is "The Inn" if I may ask? I feel I may be missing out on a good thing here!
Dear Pop,
CONGRATULATIONS on your 5oo!! Doesn't surpise me at all, you are a great writer. Sorry I've missed so much this week. I've had a project that has taken much of my time, and, to boot, got bronchitis and sinus infection. You are right on with your hub and just remember, it won't be long before Obama is out (if we can take it that long). Ahh, but who to replace him with? I haven't been impressed with any of the potentials!!!
Thanks breaakfastpop for the answer to what the 'Inn' is so now I ask where might this play be, somewhere's here in hubpages I would guess, maybe a forum? Apologies for my cluelessness!
P,
500 freakin followers. five-freakin-hundred! Actually I'm surprised it's not five-freakin-thousand. Who ever the queen bee is on planet hub, I'm sure she's looking for a therapist by now. You are and Scotty are unstoppable.
Great hub, yummy breakfast. I just want to mention "Housefire Project" rule number one. Accepting responsibility. We can't forget, these bums didn't shoot their way in. We put them in there either through voting or the lack of. We have to take responsibility for our apathy. Of course their is a tiny percentage who do their homework and get involved, but most of us have watched the news, listened to a few speaches, and hit the voting booth, or worse yet, stuck their head in the sand and did nothing. I was one of the latter until about ten or eleven months ago.
That's when I became finally woke up and saw the mess our country was in. I needed to get my thoughts sorted out, so I took off my pants, and joined the hub. I started geting the stuff in my head sorted out and reading other hubs. That's when I found you and Scotty.
Patti, the two of you have been a major source of keeping my batteries charged up, and now the doors are open to the most in your face PAC out there. You had a lot to do with it kido. Thanks for all the good food, drinks, and education of the current events. I love ya little sister, and everyone on my small staff does too. Then there's the other five hundred we can't forget. Congrads, you are really something special girl. TOASTS!
jim
Simple enough, sorry for my ignorance! lol!
I want to say, congratulations for your 500 followers. This was great achievement for you. Keep on hubbing. Nice to see you again, POP. Although I still felt sad to hear the victims of tsunami and earthquake in Japan still increasing. God bless you!
Prasetio,
BP Hello precious one. I have missed you. My Oh my Wisconsin is truly in an upheaval. All the lands are in upheaval. There is one way trust God, 'Lean not on your own understanding acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path'
Prayer and more prayer. GOD will strengthen us in our walks on this journey of Life. The "World' is in very troublesome times. Keep your eyes on Him. The Creator that owns it all anyway. He will repay the unjust and pay back the ones that have been 'taken' It is written. He knows what He does. Wake up call! God is on the throne.
May God continue to Bless you sister. Thank You so much for your hard work to inform encourage and keep on in sharing the truth behind the greed, power, lies. I just love ya. You are a gem. In Christ.
What gets me is the representatives who reneged on their duty to represent their Union constituency are leading the charge in pointing the fingers at others. Are the Union leaders blind to having been double-crossed?
EXCELLENT! As usual! And I might add - the King's thug cronies left double digit millions in repairs needed inside and outside the WI capital due to their barbarianism. If ONE Tea Partier had left a newspaper on the steps of the capital the entire liberal media would be shouting from their glass house rooftops - LOOK WHAT THEY DID THOSE SLOBS! Yet these thugs destroyed Wisconsin property to the tune of MILLIONS. If the Governor could only sue the unions for this outrage!
Where is the mass media on this?? I just want to SMACK the liberal LAWBREAKERS never mind their worthless cronies in the Senate who were too cowardly to show up for their jobs!
Terrific Hub Pop! And I LOVE French Toast!!
A quick hello to let you know I'm still reading................ not too much to comment on though- I think it's all been said! Breakfast was yummy, although a few days late! Hope you're well ~ Kaie
I felt sad for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami; and we join you in prayers for their safety and fast recovery. Anyway, you have a unique style in writing your hubs. I did not only learn another delicious way of cooking French toast, but I also enjoy reading your thought provoking fairy tale. Thumbs up!
can't wait to make the recipe~love the commentary

Pop,
I remember a few years before the Kings coronation when he was thinking of abdicating due to not being ready to rule the entire kingdom. Perhaps he is wanting to try to gain needed experience by trying to rule a state. Too bad he didn't stick to his original intent!!!!!
