Microwave Coffee Cake and the Observer
65Oink!
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, December 16, 2010. Scotty has just returned from a brief trip to our nation's capitol. He didn't stay long because his alien digestive system couldn't take the insanity. He wants to get a few things off his stomach and he has asked you to meet at my place after we prepare his breakfast. He is in a hurry so today he is requesting a Microwave Coffee Cake. You will need 1 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup chopped pecans, 1/3 cup butter, 1 large egg, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 cup cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon salt. For the topping you will need 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
Prepare the topping in a small bowl by mixing together the ingredients. Set aside. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. In another bowl, cream together the regular sugar, brown sugar, butter and egg. Add wet ingredients and sour cream to the dry ingredients. Fold in nuts and fruit. Prepare a 9 inch round glass baking pan with cooking spray. Make sure the pan is microwave safe or it will explode! Spread the batter evenly in the pan and sprinkle the topping.
Cover and refrigerate over night. Oops! Scotty will have to make do with some bagels and cream cheese this morning. Tomorrow morning microwave the cake on high for 8 minutes. It's done when the proverbial toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.
Come on over to my place. Bagels and coffee are on me.
Welcome friends. Thanks for coming over on such short notice. My stomach is in an uproar because I just cannot accept the spiteful and irresponsible behavior of these people you call Democrats. The voters of your nation sent a message to Washington in the mid-term elections. The Democrats clearly decided to turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the wishes of the American people. Senate Democrats have filed a $1.1 trillion spending bill that would fund the government and half of the free world through fiscal year 2011. Clearly no lessons were learned these last two years. The American people asked members of Congress to stop producing bills that were thousands of pages long. They asked Congress to read the legislation before passing it. Frankly, the people on my planet laughed their strange heads off when they learned that your Congress votes on bills they haven't read. Voters asked Congress to end this massive spending and to get the idiotic pork out of the legislation. When it became clear that those you elected to represent you didn't give a fig about what you wanted, you wisely threw them out of Washington. The bad news is that they are still there and in the short time they have left, they intend to inflict as much harm as possible. Like vindictive children raised in the wild by wolves, they have banded together to shove as much pork down your throats as they possibly can.
The spending bill they have put together is 1,924 pages long! It includes funding to implement the healthcare reform bill that most of you didn't want along with additional funds for the IRS so that they can run the healthcare fiasco. This bill must be rejected. Congress can keep the government running by passing a short-term funding measure free of earmarks. The era of ramming unwanted and unread costly legislation through Congress without review by its members and the American people has to end. You will never dig yourselves out of the hole you are in if you allow this despicable practice to continue. I hear a lot of talk lately that laments the fact that the Democrats didn't get the message inherent in the mid-term elections. I beg to differ. They got the message loud and clear and they rejected it. They do not represent your interests, they represent themselves and their agenda has very little to do with the best interests of the American people. They are behaving like selfish, vindictive children and they have to be stopped. It's time to shoot the duck once and for all...POP...

I noticed that the pork added to the bill is, for the most part, absolutely awful. The add ons were for the lamelest, dumbest things imaginable. And who sponsored them? The Dems. It is hard to believe that these socialists were ever elected. However, I may be naive. It could be that those who elected them are socialists themselves or they are just f'n stupid. Makes me thirsty. BARTENDER......
POP - Some say its a big surprise that there are as many as 6 Repubs who will vote for this as well as the Dems, seems Pork and stupid is Bi-Partisan for the moment. Could be the birth of a new political party ahead, hopefully based on the common sense that is now so lacking.
Put some Jose Cuervo in that coffee I'll see ya at the Inn after my shift tonight save me a seat!
breakfastpop: correct, my mistake (rate change that led to lower taxes!) - letting them lapse would hurt everyone in the short term, and hurt the economy in the short term - however, in an environment where we have huge deficits we have to change something - simply cutting spending is not going to be enough - and whether people like it or not there are going to be additional taxes - whether it's a 'tax rate' change, an overhaul of the tax system, removal of interest deductions or the introduction of a VAT - now we just need someone brave enough to do this - can't see Obama doing this.....in fact I can't see any Politician doing this!!!!
So when do we start 'hurting' the people - it's gonna happen - the sooner the better.....
BTW I agree about the estate tax.....
Pop, I like this man SimeyC, a sensible man that sits across the table from me yet he throws interesting civil information to the conversations, a true bi-partisan man!
Now, I'll go to the bottom of the barrel, those who elected these people are stupid in their actions as they don't know squat about who they are voting for or for what they stand or have done in the past to slowly take down America. All too foolish to realize that they do not belong to the ruthless, mega wealthy clan of Sorros. They have 30 million? Sorros has 30 billion or more and when the dirty job is done he'll take what they have and set them on the streets of despair, not even knowing where the hood latch on their car is, they will parish, with out simple knowledge of turning a pan of Cats head biscuits to go with the beans and taters.
They will reap not as they sowed not, and a feller might like their Rolex and just do them a favor and take it from them in exchange for the ultimate price being left in return.
I've such a grim look here so lets go get some Turbo charged Bloody Marys, I think you've got me hooked on them as I love tomato juice and the added kick is good for the heart!, 50
POP:
First, sorry I was not on your hub yesterday. I had no electricity; but that's all over, and I'm warm and toasty again.
I was afraid that all the incumbents that would be going home for good would get their revenge. This is just the last hurrah for them. They believe they are right, and we are too dumb to know any better, so they're just going on with business as usual. It's sickening!
It's really very simple: Extend the Bush Tax Cuts, and find a way to pay for the unemployment extension, which I'm certain there is plenty of fat in the budget. Then in 2011, either defund or repeal that sickening healthcare bill.
I'm off to the bar, Scotty, I'll meet you there, Someone please save me a seat....
breakfastpop: lets be honest - the Rs and the Ds both suck! So when are you starting the third party - I'd vote for you - well that is once I get citizenship!!!
Seriously it's going to take someone who is able to navigate through all the 'crap' and bring back integrity and honesty to politics (did that ever exist!) and to do what is right for the country not for the party!
As for taxes - I wholeheartedly agree - a new tax system is needed so that there are no loopholes to exploit (for those with the best accountants!)..
While the dems are unashamed of this bill, the repubs whine, 'we have to vote for it because we don't have time to start again' or some such. They're all doing the same as they did with the health care bill, deciding who can vote it in and letting the others vote no.
POP, they did this crap with the health Bill and look what happened, hopefully it will be overturned. Congress can't manage their budget, but they sure can find ways to fund their pet projects. We were loud and clear in Nov, with a 17% approval rating, they should get a clue! Have a drink ready, i'm heading to the bar!
Morning POP...I share your disgust with this last minute wheeling and dealing by both political parties...A few, like Ryan and, yes, even McCasgill, do get it and will do the right thing by voting against this bloated, pork infested omnibus prefabrication called the budget bill...I'm afraid the only way this bill will be defeated will be if the American people march on Washington, en mass, and physically prevent the vote from taking place...It's a done deal...The president has even said that if the bill does not pass his presidency is over...This is their last shot before the changing of the guard on Jan 5th...let's hope a gigantic snowstorm buries Washington and prevents this vote from taking place...I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...a very, very white Christmas...( Maxine Waters would call that a racist statement )...Beam me up, Scotty...I'm hitchin' a ride to anywhere but here...
See you at the tavern, POP...Let's load up those Bloody Mary's with Michelle's garden bounty, and get a copy of this omnibus bill and start slicing the pork...Ham and cheese anyone..?...Larry
Hate to grab my bagel and run (hope you were looking the other way--actually grabbed two, and slipped a whole gob of cream cheese into a Ziploc as well, on my way out), bagelize my half-Jewish wife on the way to the computer, and get to writing on this same topic before I forget my hub title:
Lame Duck Suicide Bombers: The Omnibus Bill.
But before I zip off with the Ziploc:
1. I wouldn't count "our side" out till all is actually said and done. There are a few factors in our favor, believe or not (quoth the eternal optimist who actually BELIEVED he had a chance of completing a successful ride on that year's World Champion Bucking Bull, back in the day).
2. On the DOWN side, yeah, they may get the needed 6 Republicans to vote with 'em. After all, eight of 'em voted to keep earmarks when the ban was defeated recently.
Look! Over there!
Now, keep looking while I slip out the door....
Voted Up, Awesome, and Useful(especially for the microwave coffee cake, since we have a nuker but no conventional oven at the moment).
Outragious. These guys just don't get it, do they? Or maybe they are "getting it", just not from the voter. I guess it's a good scam where you get paid to rob people. Especially when your being paid by both the people your robbing and a special interest group.
At some point we are going to have to raise taxes to clean up this debt. However, until we have a congress that is willing to end earmarks and reduce spending. I will be against all Tax increases.
POP, I heard McCain reading off all the pork in this bill yesterday and it is just politics as usual. It is like the American people didn't speak in the election. I believe they are trying to do as much damage as possible. I sure hope it doesn't pass but I think they will try to pass it or something close because of the problems created by waiting until next year. See you at the inn.
I am so disgusted by the actions of our Senate Dem members I want to vomit. Imagine creating and voting for a bill more than 1900 pages long creating trillions of new debt that you have not even read. That's not just disgusting; it's insanity. When will they wake up? More to the point, when will we, all the voters who voted these bums in, wake up?
This bill will likely pass while those on both sides of the aisle posture and talk of how they have fought it and how disgusted they are with its contents. At the same time, it facilitates what our elected ones do best and that is spend the people's money. The bill keeps tradition alive and in the end that is all any of them care about. Suddenly firing squads seem like a good idea. See you at the Inn! WB
Scotty; unfortunately the democRATS believe that commercial that has run on television all these years; Pork the Other White Meat; to them this election was just another unexplained abomination; another temper tantrum thrown by the electorate. They didn’t actually repudiate them this past fall; they were just mad because FOX News had misled them into believing the democRATS were not their friends. Soon they will wake up and realize what they’ve done and welcome them back with open arms; until then the democRATS will continue to do what’s best for them!
I have to agree with Simey and of course you Scotty as well as most who have commented here. I'm stunned by their brazen disregard for the American people. If any Republican votes for this piece of garbage we need to remember their names and make it our personal responsibility to vote them out or contribute to those who can - off office.
It is absolutely outrageous and I'm so mad I can spit. I fully understand your stomach problems Scotty my stomach is doing much the same.
Voted up for cleverly putting a spotlight on these out of control PIGS.
It seems that the competition between the Rep and Dem about who is going to load more earmarks into a bill, will never stop. BOTH PARTIES are equaly responsable (or irresponsable I should say) and they should be held accountable for their lack of consideration and disrespect
Okay, POP's, I'm going to shoot this one straight as I can....this bill is.%@#$ *&%#))+ and IF it @#$%!# I will NEVER @#$%$#, i am so sick and @$@#$! of this !@#$!#@$%!#%, Maybe, just maybe we can @$@$##!.
Sorry about that. I see ya at the bar
:)
And I'll bring the Pepto Pop!
Voted up, liked and shared.
I would add to this, but you all seem to have it covered, plus my mouth is full of microwave coffee cake. Good Stuff!

Scotty's upset stomach is understandable. The goings on in Washington are often sickening, but these last couple days have been even more so. The whole bunch should be summarily fired. All this SHOULD'VE been accomplished back in October, but like children they wait until the last minute & try to ram garbage through.
Voted up & useful.
When our country was young, most of the legislators were farmers (as was the rest of the country in the days before big machines!), so Congress was only in session for a couple of months in the winter, thereby causing minimal damage to the rest of the country.
The good old days!
Yes,the massive spending bill has failed. God is good.
Great Hub!
Why thanks breakfastpop! I really appreciate that. I also love to cook, so I'm paying close attention to your hubs.
I don't think the Democrats have listen to the public since the 70's... I became a Republican when Ronald Reagan ran...I admit to slipping once for (his first term) Clinton... Now I am a conservative...so I can truly appreciate Scotty's upset stomach. Breakfastpop you are always on the mark, keep it up, we need you. I look forward to bagel and cream cheese tomorrow!
To BreakfastPop and everyone else - I just had a great idea ! Send all of your political donations to me, and I will promise to NOT run for office. That's a straight guarantee that I will not vote for any legislation as stupid as that almost 2,000-page pork and spending bill ! Anyway, it came to be that they turned down the long spending bill and voted to accept that one-pager instead.
Keep smiling everyone. You may look nutty to do so, but your jaws won't hurt nearly so much.
Gus :-)))

"This bill must be rejected" - but it won't be - there are so many 'add-ons' from both sides that no one wants to kill the bill - all politicians on both sides need to get their **sses into gear and start being fiscally responsible - stop adding billions in 'add-ons' to bills....
I wish the American people would go out and vote out all incumbants - only then will they start listening.
While you have politicians who do anything they want without losing their jobs then the nature of government will never change.
The more politicians that continue to seek political capital at the cost of the economy, the less chance America has of recovering!
Why is 'bi-partisan' such a dirty word in Washington - I don't think I've ever seen a case of true 'bi-partisanship' where there hasn't been some sort of political agenda underlying it!!!!
As for the spending bill - you can't blame the Democrats nor can you blame the Republicans - it's the whole government who has let it get out of hand the last 15-20 years....
We had this whole debate about the Bush era tax cuts - they should never have been initiated in the first place...again no blame on Bush - it's the whole government that really should know better!
