Popcorn Granola and Another Stimulus Plan

Groundhog Day

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, September 12, 2011. President Obama is sending his jobs bill over to Congress today. It's making the trip without information about how it is going to be paid for. Although President Obama thinks this bill is a solution to all of our problems, the truth is that it is yet again another stimulus plan that is doomed to failure.

Let's prepare some Popcorn Granola this morning so that we have something to munch on when we get to the nitty gritty of the president's proposition. You will need 2 cups of uncooked oats, 2 cups wheat germ, 2 cups ground popped popcorn, 1 cup sesame seeds, 1 cup shredded coconut, 1/2 cup honey, 1/3 cup canola oil, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. In a medium bowl combine peanut butter, canola oil, vanilla, honey, brown sugar and salt. Set the bowl aside.

In a large baking pan, mix together oats, wheat germ, ground popcorn, sesame seeds and coconut. Add peanut butter mixture and stir to coat. Press down on mixture to get the ingredients even and flat in the pan. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring after 20 minutes. Let cool and serve. Sit back, relax, munch on your cereal and sip your Cafe Amores. I feel a letter coming on.

To all the Constantly Smiling Democratic Spokespeople:

This morning I heard one of your "Club" declare that that President Obama's jobs plan was so perfect that you simply can't imagine anyone being opposed to it. You went on to assert that if the Republican's found fault in this magnificent plan then, it would be clear that they put party politics above the welfare of the nation.

You do recall that the first $800 billion stimulus plan was a complete failure. Even if you don't agree to that assessment, keep in mind that the rest of the nation does agree. The new jobs plan is actually just a new stimulus plan that is going to cost us another $450 billion that we don't have.

President Obama has proposed giving a tax credit to businesses who hire new workers. Of course, you may recall that he already did this and it didn't work. It failed to produce jobs because a credit of a couple of thousand dollars really does nothing to offset the cost of hiring a new worker. The credits will expire and along with them will go any temporary workers that may have been hired to take advantage of the credit initially. In other words, this idea didn't work before and it is not going to work now.

Your boss proposed that we raise taxes on the very people who create the jobs in the first place. If you keep the business sector worried and uncertain abut their future, they will not hire new people and we will never recover. President Obama has proposed that we, once again, extend unemployment benefits. Doing so will do nothing to jump start the economy and to suggest otherwise is madness. President Obama spoke a great deal about education. The one thing we don't need is the federal government sticking it's intrusive head into the education of our children. They have already done that and it has been a complete waste of money. He wants to hire more teachers because he wants to make the teacher's union happy. He wants to build more roads because he wants to make the construction unions happy. They are his "army" and what they want is what the president wants.

President Obama has proposed a plan without substance or long lasting effect. He has failed to avail himself of the wisdom of economists who know far more than he does. He has failed to learn from history. He is stuck in the same old groove of too much government and too much spending. If something doesn't derail him, we are all going to suffer more than we already have.

So, I will leave you with these final thoughts and a bit of advice. Before you go on television to express your support of every single thing President Obama says or does, just try to do a little research and think about things. Barring that, could you all stop all the smiling? Considering the state of our economy, to do so is just a wee bit crazy, don't you think?...POP...

Great letter. I am now convinced that the only speech this President could give that might spur the economy would be his resignation speech!!

POP: You know the definition of insanty: "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". Since I heard is Jobs speech, I now know that Obama is insane. No one would have the guts to state that they had the answer to the jobs issue, make us wait a month to hear it, and then tell us the same thing he stated for two years. You have to be insane to do that.

I'm off to the bar - there is no insanity there. Someone, please save me a seat....

Pop: I have to say, though I like your writing, I am in general disagreement with you on this one. Many of the reasons that the stimulus plan failed originally was pure Republican stubbornness. A refusal to put it through in a timely manner, the desire to be obstinate simply to be obstinate. NOTHING this president is going to do will ever work, because the entire religious right and GOP guarantees that it won't.

Tom Whitworth, above, is a perfect example of this.

I think that the answer will come when we stop with partisan politics and focus on what is good for the economy. Will Obama's plan work? The details of it on Whitehouse.gov are pretty specific (though the bill itself is not published, and can't until the vote is passed or denied)

We won't find out if it works until it goes through (or not) but I can tell you one thing:

If we don't stop the infighting between parties nothing is going to work. Politicians today (on both sides) are more worried about soundbites and pleasing that ridiculous "Tea Party" then they are about fixing the nation.

Good morning soldieringon,

I have to say that I feel you are being a bit intractable. People far more qualified than I have declared this plan a disaster. It repeats the same old tired ideas. They didn't work the first time and they won't work now. The proof is out there if President Obama cared to look. I do agree that partisan politics is a maddening waste of time and money. We have pressing problems that need real life solutions. What we don't need is ideology running the show. As for your remark about the Tea Party, I don't agree. For me the Tea Party is the best example of democracy at work. These are the people that kept their mouths shut and left all decisions to those they elected, never daring to question them. Now the once silent majority is speaking up and that is a good thing. By the way, we don't have to agree for you to be welcome at the breakfast table, so please come again.

Morning POP...When will government learn the lesson of basic economics..? Private sector job creation is driven by capital and demand. No amount of feel-good spending can match the efficient allocation people choose for their own money. Eliminate corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, and taxes on interest and dividends, and the capital will flow towards its most productive uses, not for payoffs to teacher's unions, SEIU and Teamster " Armies ", and corrupt progressive orgs such as Acorn...

See you at the tavern, Pop...The only " stimulus package " I want comes in a glass of tequila...Ole'!...Larry

Pop

First and foremost understand going in these remarks are coming from a level 4 contributor so according to Hub Pages I am Commentarial Challenged! Having said all that I set my Oprah Winfrey Secret Decoder Ring to the Word Stimulus so as to better understand your Hub; after all remember I’m just a 4 commenting on and 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pop; good point up front; you chair the Breakfast Club while those like Debbie Blabber-Mouth Schultz Chair “The Liar’s Club”! Remember way way way back when George W. Bush was first nominated to run against their most Sacred Cow Al Gore the word of choice for the then Liar’s Club was Gravitas; every program which had the misfortune of providing a platform for a Democratic Apologists was deafened by the sound of the word GRAVITAS-GRAVITAS-GRAVITAS. Well the new words of choice or I should say Phrase of Choice for the Modern day Liars Club is FAIR SHARE-FAIR SHARE-FAIR SHARE-FAIR SHARE!!!!!

Oh Contre’ my dear Pop; according to Debbie Blabber Mouth Schultz, at least a Zillion Jobs were created or saved by Stimulus 1; most of those jobs were in the Fantasy Sector as opposed to the Private Sector. She chronicled virtually Billions of new Elf’s that were hired by Santa Claus as a result of the stimulus as well as those additional egg dyers hired by the Easter Bunny plus those money delivers and pillow lifters hired by the Tooth Fairy. So you see Pop the jobs were created; you just had to know where to look. As for Stimulus 2; there are shovel ready projects on the books awaiting its passage; for instance the Santa Claus Castle Rehabilitation Project, or the Puff The Magic Dragon Flying School for young Dragons Act, or the Let’s go to Avatar Program; or the Muslim Berka Redesign Act are just a few worth mentioning up front!

Com-on-Pop; quit being so negative. Just because Obama’s proposed giving a tax credit to businesses who hire new workers is only worth $4,500 wherein it cost them around $100,000 per new worker in salary, payroll taxes, social security and OBAMA Care they should step up to the plate, do their patriotic duty, and hire more workers. Then after they hire them the Regime will pass Card Check and force the unionization of those workers on those same employers. Ain’t America Great!!!

Well, that’s all I could get from my Oprah Winfrey Decoder Ring; perhaps if I type in the word Bull-S#*t I’ll get a few more hits!

Hopefully this will hit the net and we'll be ble to see whats in it before anybody votes on it.

Speaking of feathers is there any chance that Obama will fly back from whence he came anytime soon? As far as the Tooth Fairy is concerned. Just thinks of all the jobs that will be created by 7 year olds who have all this money and want to pend it at Toys R Us. You gotta believe, Patriot, you gotta believe. See you at the Inn.

Dear Hmr,

I'm on my way typing this as I run to the Inn. I sincerely hope these people in Congress read this bill before approving it. I think it is very flawed and just like Obamacare needs a whole lot of improving. Better yet. Start over and get things right for a change.

The Democrat operatives should be smiling...they have a job.

The 'jobs plan' is simply a campaign set-up, designed as a no win for Republicans. Obama knew when he proposed it that Republicans can't support it, which is why he did it. Now he can claim he tried, but Republicans put politics ahead of country.

Obama can't lead, but he can BS with the very best.

Little Sister With giant Brain,

It's not a plan. It's a desperation move. It's red meat for the liberal base. Just something he can use to say .. "See, I tried to create jobs, but the Republicans just don't want jobs." With failure on all the issues, that's the best political move they have besides the billion dollars worth of mud they'll buy.

Hi Pop! While I applaud Obama on putting forth an effort to make something work, I do have my doubts. Loosening the government stronghold on companies and reducing spending in the wasteful areas can help some.

I have to give it to him though, he is smart. And his handlers are smarter. Going into re-election, he has found a way to put the House members - all of whom are facing re-election - on notice. If they don't support his plan in some way, they appear to be obstructionist. He then, appears to be picked upon and can whine to the independent voters. Great strategy. The test is if the House and Republicans can find some way to counter this strategy.

Voted up, up and away. To the Inn I come!

The only viable option Obummy has for reelection at this point is playing the Blame Game. He and his handlers excelled at that ploy while blaming Bush for all their problems. Now it's time to blame Republicans for being obstructionists to his brand new Jobs Plan which didn't work the first time he implemented it.

Hi, Pop. I read the transcript of the speech and I did notice the many times he said "pass this jobs plan right away" and how he subtlety put the Republicans on the spot. As Dexter pointed out, it is a great strategy. He knew all along his 'no spending cuts/tax the rich-funded bill' will be challenged by the Republicans. I am sure many will just look the other way as he plays politics which he seems to provoke too often.

"Before you go on television to express your support of every single thing President Obama says or does, just try to do a little research and think about things."

Goodluck with that! From what I have observed, many of his supporters just go by what the mainstream media feeds them. Many of them have the "let's-pass-the-bill-so-we -can-see-what-is-in-it" mentality.

Good morning Dexter,

I see Obama's strategy but I am sick that making the Republicans look bad comes before the welfare of this nation. It's too late for games, we are in deep trouble. I don't care what anybody's party affiliation is, there are solutions to these problems and it's time Congress, in particular, the Dems woke up. I also don't appreciate the fact that Obama lied to the American people once again. He spoke about taxing millionaires and billionaires when what he meant all along was taxing couples who earn $250,000 a year and singles earning $200,000. What else is he misleading us about? See you at the Inn.

What the President fails to notice is that jobs exist because there is a "business need" for them. When business is stymied by consumer confidence, government regulation, and healthcare reform, all the temporary measures are in vain. The only result from this plan will be that the failed economic stimulus costs Americans 1.3 trillion dollars...one hell of an expensive economic lesson. As long as Obama and his likes continue to try to place government at the center of our world, this will be the result. Of course, once he breaks us financially, proposing alternatives will be much easier. I actually read a comment this morning which observed that "when President Obama speaks on a subject, one can tell that he has thought deeply about it." Now is this a case of totally being fooled or is our population riddled with the naive? WB

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 8 months ago

Good morning Wayne,

I have come to the conclusion that those who can't see through Obama are brain dead. As far as job creation is concerned, Obama is clueless. Government has to do less, confidence has to be restored and taxes have to be lowered and not just for a year, spending has to get under control, regulations have to be severely curtailed and Obamacare has to be repealed. None of this is going to happen and we are not going to get out of this mess anytime soon. See you at the Inn, I'm buying.
