Rum Raisin French Toast On Manic Monday
54Not Again
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Manic Monday, September 21, 2009. It used to be Common Sense Monday, but common sense is truly dead and it's time to call things the way they really are, maniacal!
Today's recipe is Rum Raisin French Toast. If you want to follow along, you will need 4 slices raisin bread, 2 large eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 4 tablespoons quality dark rum, 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg and 1 1/4 tablespoons butter. In a shallow bowl, beat eggs. Whisk in the milk, rum and nutmeg. Place bread in mixture and let soak for a few minutes. Heat the butter in a non-stick skillet until very hot. Place bread in skillet and fry on both sides until golden brown. Serve with butter and maple syrup. The rum is a nice addition that will probalbly help you get through the day.
It is clear that the Democrats in the House of Representatives have lost their minds. They have decided that it makes perfect sense to expand the scope and power of the Community Reinvestment Act, that brilliant piece of legislation that helped the mortgage meltdown pick up speed.
Last week, House Financial Services Committee chairman, Rep. Barney Frank, held a hearing on H.R.1479, better known as the Community Reinvestment Modernization Act of 2009. For our purposes, let's refer to it as the " Democratic Madness Act" or DMA. The purpose of the bill is to level the playing field when it comes to wealth in our nation. To do this, home ownership and small business ownership for low and moderate income borrowers and persons of color must be made available, regardless of income. Does this sound familiar? Perhaps the Democrats are all suffering from amnesia?
Of course, the plan is vehemently opposed to by Republicans and anyone with a brain and a memory. Indiscriminate lending practices led to the financial meltdown we are all facing right now. The Democrats in the House feel that the pain and the stupidity should continue and so they want the legislative muscle to force lending institutions of all kinds to give mortgages to people regardless of their ability to pay.
ACORN, that beloved organization, that is currently under the microscope, used the ACT to put pressure on banks to give money to them and their affiliates. In light of ACORN"s predilection for fraud of all kinds and promotion of prostitution and child trafficking, you would imagine that Barney Frank and friends would be reluctant to expand the bill's powers.
Wrong, Barney and company thinks expanding the bill's scope is a fine idea and unhappily, if that's what Barney wants, that's what Barney gets.
The Republicans do not have the votes to stop the Democrats, and that is a very, very sad state of affairs. I guess it's business as usual in Washington.
"Just Another Manic Monday"...POP...
POP: Thank goodness that HR1479 is only in committee. It has a long way to go. This bill was referred to two committees, and Barnie Frank is the Chairman of only one. We should keep watch on this bill, though.
If this bill makes it through, you are correct, as usual, that the banking issues we have just dealt with will return. This will will reduce the rating of every bank that does not comply. The bank's rating is the number one priority of any financial institution, so, in essence, the federal government will force the banks to give bad loans, or have their rating reduced. If this does go through, then we'll have come full circle, won't we!
I'm so dizzy from this, that I need to get to the bar - save me a seat.....
Thanks for filling me in on that bit of info. I was unaware of that going on. I don't know why it surprises me. As I said before, my husband and I are white, and we could have gotten a mortgage for a much more expensive house than we did, but unlike those always looking for a hand-out, we chose a mortgage and a house we could actually afford in the long run.
Pop amnesia is much more easily obtained when like the Dem's you constantly exist in the State of Denial. The State of Denial is Democrat utopia.
The word I hear is another ACORN exposee is brewin, this time the housing branch of ACORN is assisting illegal immigrants in obtaining mortgages.
Keep on hubbing Pop you are a breath of fresh air.
Pop,
There are times when I hate being right, weeks ago I wrote a hub questioning the motives of the government’s agenda on housing. This new Bill appears to verify my assertions, and may be just the first log on the fire of redistribution of wealth. While many people whom at one time, pre-unemployment, had plump grapelike credit scores now will be left with ratings as dried out as raisins, unable to qualify for these “new programs.” Their lives thrown aside like burnt toast, while the “down trodden” per Barney’s scheming, laying the eggs for the rebirth of ACORN possibly as:
P eoples
L eague
U nited
M isappropriating
P rosperity
are awarded these confiscated homes and the Obama regal purple promise of wealth redistribution comes to fruition.
Some times I hate being prophetic.

Great hub again Pop, your still hitting the high notes!
Lessons not learned. If you cannot afford to own a home you shouldn't be given a loan! This is all pretty basic yet the Democrats feel it is some sort of discrimination, in a way it is, banks and finance companies are discriminating against those who would screw them, sounds like self preservation to me!
Ah, bring back the days when the Bangles were a hot band.
I'm not sure if its gifted or cursed! But thanks for the vote of confidence.
I enjoyed your article today. However, the French Toast sounds best to me. Thanks!
\_/ \_/ I'll take two shots. :)
I can't believe this is actually happening...jiberish, I'll match you \_/ \_/ and up you 2\_/ \_/.
Way to go Pop, tell on em. I have enjoyed your hubs so much, nice to know there are still a few thinking Americans who have the gift of gab and can still be understood, keep em comming.

Better Double up on the Rum in your receipt, we're gonna need it to get through the rest of the year with this bunch; And it's just the first year with 3 more to go!
HR 1479, During the election I saw two anchorpersons claim, "we are discriminating against the poor if we don't allow them to have a loan? What planet are some of the anchorpeople from? How stupid is this?
And what is just as bad, when they try to create something like this for the poor, it opens so many loopholes that people will use for investing and swindle money out of the government. i.e. having borrowed 100%+ on your house, or investment houses, that if the house doesn't make money you can walk away from it. Especially if this is done under a LCC corporation, where the corp has no money, and can't be held for any liability because if its structure and bankruptcy capability.
Keep on hubbing!

It is truly amazing. The sheer stupidity never stops! I guess it is because no one noticed all the incompetent socialsts in Congress until we got an incompetent socialist in the White House. Folks, the country is dying along with our Constitution. Does anyone not to the right of center see this? We are in a terrible predicament. The Obamunists in congress will vote anyway they feel on any issue, damn what their constituents want. By the time the genius voters who put these creeps in office wake up, it could be too late. The problem is that the creeps in California, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Montana have elected the worst of the worst. It's too much to take. Let me add that Obumma doesn't have the guts or intelligence to go on FOX news for an interview. Could it be that he is afraid he will be asked a question he is not prepared to answer? Stop preaching to the choir and see what others are thinking. If you think you are so right, try to change people's opinions. Or just leave. BARTENDER.
