And The Winners Are....

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, September 13, 2011. It is time for the 49th presentation of the weekly PIP-POP Awards. If it's Tuesday then a liquid breakfast is on the menu. This morning we will be preparing a Singapore Sling. You will need 1 and 1/2 ounces of gin, 1 ounce lemon juice, 1/4 ounce sugar syrup, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons powdered sugar, 2 ounces club soda, 1/2 ounce cherry brandy and a lemon slice and a maraschino cherry for garnish. Pour the gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and powdered sugar into a shaker with ice cubes. Strain into a highball glass with ice cubes. Pour in the club soda. Float the cherry brandy on top by pouring it over the back of a bar spoon. Garnish with the lemon slice and the cherry. Put on your top hat and grab your boas, it's time for the show to begin.

Welcome everyone. I regret to say that this week's presentation is a little top heavy with POPS. I apologize to you in advance. Having said that let's begin by welcoming the Rev. Jesse Jackson to the stage. Rev. Jackson, we have learned that you have been urging Attorney General Eric Holder to prosecute Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. We wonder, can you actually prosecute someone for having the courage of his convictions? Please sit down Rev. Jackson and take your POP with you. The nominating committee was actually hoping that someone would prosecute Eric Holder.

The second POP of the morning is awarded to PBS. Please welcome Big Bird to the stage. He has kindly agreed to represent the network. Big Bird, PBS is receiving this POP for having the audacity to alter President Obama's jobs speech the other night in order to remove an error in the speech. President Obama stated that Abraham Lincoln founded the Republican Party and rather than let their benefactor go down in history having made this mistake they simply removed it from the transcript of the speech. I am sure you are as shocked as we were, Big Bird. Here's the network's POP and a Singapore Sling for you.

Our third award of the morning is yet another Pop. It bears the name of Sen. Tom Harkin, the proud Democrat from the proud state of Iowa. Sen. Harkin, do you have any regrets whatsoever labeling the Republican Party as a "a kind of cult"? You appear to believe that our nation no longer has a two party system because one of the parties has morphed into a cult driven by fixation and obsession. Do you also stamp your feet when you don't get your way Senator? Just wondering. Enjoy your POP, sir.

Our fourth POP of the morning goes to the U.S. Department of Energy for their announcement that they used $60 million of the $1.2 billion given to them in the economic stimulus plan. The money was supposed to pay for advanced technology research instruments to study climate change. Well, guess what boys and girls, some of that equipment purchased with our tax money was spent on equipment that went to the Maldives, India and Australia.

Our last award of the morning is, alas, another POP. Please welcome New York Times columnist, Paul Krugman, to the stage for slamming our nation's reaction to the tragedy of September 11th for the last ten years. You made reference to people you characterized as fake heroes, namely Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani and George W. Bush. The only good news about your column was that it provoked outrage. Please take your Pop and head back to your typewriter.

Pardon me for a second, it seems I just got a text message from breakfastpopper taxlarry. He is begging me to end the show on a high note by awarding a PIP to the NFL for commemorating September 11th by unfolding a magnificent American flag while the National Anthem was being sung. He's right, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you to the NFL for their heartfelt expression of remembrance and patriotism and thank you taxlarry for reminding us that we always have room for a PIP... PIP PIP HOORAY...POP GOES THE WEASELS...

Pop,

Thank you for "honoring' another group of distinguished "winners". I though this weeks group would stand without comment until 911 and Krugman (who capably channels Joseph Goebbels for the left) made me have to make this comment. Paul, go away.

taxlarry 8 months ago

Great awards ceremony. The thing about Jesse Jackson is that he is another irrelevant a--hole. We haven't heard from the Rev in a while so in order to make sure he hasn't faded from the public scene he wants to prosecute an elected official he disagrees with. Well, maybe Eric Holder does have time to prosecute Gov Walker as he is not prosecuting those who kept people from voting in 2008 and other lawbreakers. PBS is heading toward irrelevance as it plays 15 to 20 year old British TV shows. I hope we can still believe in Big Bird. And Sen. Harkin, do you think anyone cares what you think? Look at the party you are involved with, you jerk. Forget about the Dept of Energy as they are another worthless government fraud. And Krugman, he is a communist, period. And, I was impressed that the NFL had huge American flags at each game during the singing of the National Anthem with members of each team holding the huge flags. Excellent! I am going to sling my way to the bar to have a nip or two and toast our great country. BARTENDER.............

Good morning, Pop! Too bad we only have one PIP today. Hooray for the NFL! And BOO for the POP recipients. I'm looking forward to the Singapore Sling. Have a great, PIPful day!

Pop, gotta salute the flag display, as for the rest, Jackson, I won't go there, the misappropriated, given to the power company who again misappropriated them doesn't surprise me much, we should have a 1000 word law against double, double, stealing from tax payers. How nice of PBS to take the "dumb" out of ass. Krugman a descendant from Nazi Her Krugman? no doubt, to the Inn, 50

POP: With all the news this week, I thought there would be a lot of POPs. The winner of all winners today, is Paul Krugman. There are many types of heros, but never a fake hero. Shame on him.

Taxlarry saved the day with a suggestion for a PIP!

I'm off to the bar now, I'll buy today, so someone, please save me a seat....

Krugman is a slug and I can't wait to get to the Inn and see my friends. I'll save you a seat and I'm bringing Chinese dumplings! As Dexter says, have a "pipful" day!

Pop

What’s left to say about the good reverend; his once Rainbow Coalition has now come to only represent different shades of Black; as for Holder he showed his true COLORS when he refused to prosecute those two baton wielding new Black Panthers caught on video outside the Philadelphia polling place last election! ………I see your true Colors come shinning through; your true colors they expose you!

Pop; great use of hyperbole; Big Bird Representing a Bird Brain President. Uhhhhhhhhhh what I meant to say was Abraham Lincoln fought alongside my Father in the Second World War; or was it the Spanish American War or maybe the War of Kenyan Independence. Four Score and Several Years ago our Forefathers Uhhhhhhhhhhh or was it our Foremothers; wait I didn’t know we had four fathers and four mothers; Abraham Lincoln must have been a Mormon. There aren’t any Mormons in Kenya are there Michele? Oh well thanks for the award!

Pop Sen. Tom Harkin is like all modern day Democrats; they are all unmitigated Socialists who will do whatever is necessary or say whatever is necessary to get elected and remain in power. Then when the public finally has enough of their destructive Socialism instead of taking their Rubber Duckies and going home they gotta whine about it and blame their loss on everyone but themselves. Oh Boo Hoo those wascally wepublicans!

Pop; are you saying there is no climate change in Maldives, India and Australia? I’ll answer my own rhetorical question; HELL NO THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE THERE JUST AS THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE ANYWHERE EXCEPT IN AL GORE’S HEAD!!!!!!!!

With those less than insightful comments I’ll take my little lever 4 brain and go home before they reduce me to a level 31

Morning Pop...Your brilliant encapsulation of the POP awards is much appreciated and applauded by your devoted Breakfastpoppers...You always ferret out those news items ignored by the MSM...

I like what Gutfeld said to Krugman: Go to hell, Paul Krugman; you bearded, bitter, buffoon...continuing the alliteration I would add bigoted, biased, and brain-dead...The Gray Lady must be hard up to continue allowing this classless jerk to sleep in her bed...

The NFL's unfolding of the American flag was somewhat spoiled by Lauper's lapse while singing the National Anthem, but she did stick it out and finish beautifully...Larry

Wow Patriot,

For a level 4 you have some pretty fine commentary. Out of all the POPS, maybe Big Bird should run for president. For a minute there I thought President Obama was going to claim he was President Lincoln. If he did no one in the MSM would challenge him. See you at the Inn Patriot and be careful. If you are followed by some libs you could fall to a level 3!!!!

Little Sister With Giant Brain,

I was in a debate yesterday. According to my opponent [I] founded the Republican party. Hmmm .. I would suggest that Obama is partially responsible for FINDING the Republican party.

Excellent report which we've all come to expect my friend. I'm stoked about today's breakfast!

Pop - I learned SO MUCH here on this Hub. I didn't know all but the Krugman deal. PBS took OUT the blunder Obama made?! Are you KIDDING ME?!? What in the WORLD are we giving one thin taxpayer dime to these idiots?!

I didn't know the other matters on the list either - or at least with Holder and Wisconsin, I should say, I had forgotten all about that and wrote a Hub on Holder without including that. Thank HEAVENS we have other sharp knives in the drawer like you Pop here on Hubpages to pick up my slack! LOL

Voted up and all the way across ---- you still always amaze me with your insights and creative writing! Keep up the good fight!!

love, c

Great award. Krugman is one of the most deserving. Doesn't the the NY Times have an editor? He should share in our disgust. All the POP's are reprehensible characters but I take my hat off to the NFL!

WillStarr profile image

"Doesn't the the NY Times have an editor?"

Great point! Whatever happened to journalistic restraint? Whatever happened to editorial restraint?

Even commentators are supposed to have some integrity. Krugman is an unabashed America hater.

Dear breakfastpop,

Pip pop has gone wary this time. I think obama is really going nuts on what to do with his this situationa and trying to find blames on other peoples. He is searching for a scape goat. I really admired him in the starting but the attraction has gone.

voted interesting.

I am following you to the breakfast table and hope to hear form you in my hubs too.

Dear carol,

"Slack" and your name don't belong in the same sentence. Do you have any idea how much I admire your talent? As for the "winners", I wonder if anything can stop certain fools from blundering on. Eric Holder is unqualified to be Atty. General and Jackson should keep his thoughts to himself. As for PBS, You just can't make up this insanity. See you at the Inn. I'll save you a seat.

Pop,

Great awards as always. I think Holder should be prosecuted as well just for his corruption and ineptitude. Of course, corruption IS the Chicago way!! My hubby was watching the Nascar race Saturday, and they had silence for laps 9 thru 11, so even THOSE folks, who the libs always look down upon too, had the decency to commemorate the act of war perpetrated upon us 10 years ago!

Reverend Jackson is running out of ways to make money since his opportunities to play the race card are not as frequent and Al Sharpton keeps jumping on the ball first. Eric Holder as Attorney General is a total irony in itself...like Martha Stewart pole dancing on Oprah. Good ol' PBS...suppose they would have been so kind to George W? Krugman is playing the "Hollywood Card"...any publicity is good publicity in his mind...maybe he and Michael Moore should vacation together. Hooray for the NFL...there is still some good in America!
