Smoked Salmon Omelette and the Observer

Terror

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, March 17, 2011. It's St. Patrick's Day and I suppose it would be appropriate to talk about the irish but Scotty has just returned from Israel and he has something on his mind. Let's prepare, at his request, a Smoked Salmon Omeltte and then gather at my place. For two servings you will need 6 large eggs, 3 ounces of smoked salmon, 4 tablespoons sour cream, 2 tablespoons chopped dill, 2 tablespoons chopped chives and 2 tablespoons butter, divided.

In a small bowl mix together sour cream, dill and chives. In another bowl beat eggs well. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add half the salmon. Cook for a bit and turn over. Add half of the eggs and do that omelette dance that we all know and love. You know, lift the omelette a bit and yada, yada, yada. When the omelette is almost set, dollop half of the filling onto half of the omelette. Flip over and flip onto a serving plate. Repeat for the other omelette. Pack up your breakfast and head for my place. Scotty and I will greet you at the door. He wil grab your omelettes and I will give you two Bloody Marys in their place.

Thank you, my dear earthling friends. I appreciate your presence this morning in my home away from home. I recently returned from a trip to Israel. Sadly, I was there when the horrific massacre of a Jewish family took place. On March 11, shortly after 10 P.M. 2 Palestinian terrorists broke into the Fogel family home and murdered the mother and father and their 3 month old baby girl in their bed slashing them to pieces. They then slammed into one of the other rooms and murdered two boys ages three and eleven while they slept. Luckily,  two other children escaped harm when the terrorists fled the scene. The oldest daughter escaped death because she was not at home at the time of the massacre.

Tracks from the carnage led to a Palestinian village of Iwarta. Al Agsa Martyrs Brigade took credit for the attack and then retracted their claim. I witnessed crowds in Gaza take to the streets in celebration of the murders. Hamas distributed sweets to the crowd which they accepted easily. Needless to say, I was speechless and horrified.

I am trying to wrap my alien arms around CNN's initial coverage of this tragedy. Their headline read, "Israeli Family of 5 Killed in a "Terrorist Attack". The use of quotation marks disturbed me greatly. CNN was trying to cast some doubt on the characterization of this incident as a terrorist attack. Again, words failed me.

The New York Times wrote "Palestinians have often justified the killing of Israeli civilians, especially settlers, as a legitimate response to Israeli occupation." I wonder, at what point in time would it be considered appropriate to stop using the word "settler"? The Fogels lived in the town of Itamar. It is a community that was established 27 years ago and is quite lovely. I think it's time to stop referring to thriving towns such as this as settlements. Settlements conjure up the vision of a tent city. Itamar is hardly that.

Here is my question. Where is the outrage over this massacre? Why was the media so reluctant to refer to this vicious attack as a terrorist attack? Why was there so little coverage of the tragedy? Has your world lost its moral compass? From where I stand I'd have to say, yes, you have lost your way...POP...

The political correctness police are in charge. I guess "terrorist" is a bad word to the lame street media. To me, terrorists are worse than animals, and the palestinian terrorists are just that. Maybe if they got an education and got a job they would be too busy to kill people. But those pieces of garbage are too stupid and/or lazy to make something out of their lives. the situation will never change. Therefore, I am off to the bar. BARTENDTER...........

POP and Scotty, Yes, the world has lost its moral compass for the most part. The liberal media and Obama seem to support the Muslim terrorist as if they are justified in all the atrocities they commit. It is heartbreaking to me that a family with small children can be slaughtered in their beds and nothing is done or even said the addresses this horrendous act.

Dear Pamela,

I trust that the Israeli's will do something about it, but just imagine living in a world where terror knocks on your door at all hours of the night. There will never be peace in this part of the world or, for that matter, in our part of the world. It is impossible to protect yourself against terrorists who love killing and are willing to blow themselves up to get to dance with the virgins! See you at the tavern.

Pino Krisio 14 months ago

POP: I want to know everything going on in the world, but I guess that these murders by Palestinian Terrorists is not news worthy. We should be able to see the Palestinians as they are, and not have their actions covered up by not reporting it.

I agree with your assessment of the word "settler" - I do think of it as a tent city.

Our news coverage is the same as ones we criticize outside of the US, who censor their news, like Russia, Cuba, etc. This is censorship in my opinion, just as using or not using words like terrorist, and settler.

Our MSM lets us know what they want us to know. I bet you anything that there's a memo out there from the WH about using terrorist in newscasts.

I'm off to the bar - someone save me a seat....

It seems that some media outlets believe that your actions are just if they feel you have been deprived of your "right" over time. In other words, I have the "right" to buy a home but the rich people of the world are keeping me down, holding me back, keeping me from getting a foothold. Therefore, I am justified to break into their home at night and slay them in their bed as an example to all the world of how poorly I have been treated. That almost makes me sound like a hero, huh? Isn't it a shame that the news hardly ever fits the direction that a media with its mind already made up wants to lean? Let's get a drink! WB

Hxprof Level 3 Commenter 14 months ago

I've struggled with the use of the word terrorist-the adjective-for some time.

For example, what I've concluded about war is that war is inherently 'terroristic'-that is, inflicting harm on your opponent to get him to conceed typically involves what we consider terroristic.

WWII is a good example. The Allies bombed German and Japanese cities killing millions of civilians, and yes, Germany bombed cities in the UK and the USSR. This is terroristic.

There are plenty of examples from Ancient through current times. In fact, warfare in the Ancient and Classical periods was brutal for civilians. When an army took a town by force, that town was usually pillaged or sacked, or sometimes it was entirely destroyed.

All that aside, there is a clear bias in the media towards calling a spade a spade if it involves an attack on Israel. Hatred towards Israel is spreading.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 14 months ago

Good morning Hxprof,

When crazed killers creep into a house of civilians and massacre innocent people that's a terror attack. When soldiers kill each other on the battlefield that's war. When civilians get hurt in the midst of battle that's horrible but it can be expected no matter how hard the parties involved try to avoid it. As for Israel, Obama clearly has helped spread animosity towards our ally in the Middle East. Shame on him and the Palestinian people who celebrated this attack in the streets.

toknowinfo Level 3 Commenter 14 months ago

CNN from long ago has been biased against Israel in much of their reporting. Whatever their reasons are, it is a shame, because people are people regardless of religion, race, gender and all the other things that we label as separating ourselves from each other. With what is going on in Japan, when are we going to learn that we are one world and compassion and concern will take us much further than hatred and biases. Will the Middle East ever know peace?

Morning POP...I remember thinking after 9-11, when we all witnessed the singing and dancing in the streets by run-of-the-mill Muslims, that our true enemy is Islam...No matter how you sugar-coat it, the " moderate " Muslim response has been curiously silent in their condemnation of radical Islam terrorists...The contrary, actually...they have been quite vocal and cheer-leading expressing their support and joy when celebrating terrorist attacks on unarmed civilians...These vermin are abject cowards that shackle their women, kill their daughters for family honor, and marry 7 year old children...This PC crap has to stop...It spreads like a cancer through our schools, government, even our churches...enough already, call a spade a spade, the religion of Islam is our enemy, and the sooner we realize that the sooner our children will continue to live in freedom...

Muslims do not assimilate...they do not tolerate...they are stuck in the 7th century with an ideology that controls every action in their lives...They live in a black and white world where everything is defined by the Koran...Islam is the " religion " that sends downs-syndrome cannon-fodder out to murder sleeping families with a blood lust to kill every person in the house, including babies...Where is the g-damn media on this story..? CNN called these animals " terrorists " in scare marks, like they were not sure they were terrorists or were, or, like the NY Times, were reluctant to print that word alongside Islam or Muslim...

Beam me up, Scotty, before I grab my gear and head for Israel where I can provide some hurt of my own to these worthless chunks of human debris...

See you at the tavern, POP...I'm pissed off, thirsty, and hungry, and ready to tear off some Muslim's head and stuff it where the sun don't shine...Larry

Dear Pop, besides the outrage that we all feel about our media picking and choosing what, and how, to report the news...I think there is a very important lesson to keep in mind here.

In 1947 the Palestinians were given the right to vote in Israel. Sadly, none of them did, because their fellow Arab leaders told them that their votes would not be counted. These fellow Arab leaders consisted of Lybia, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, etc...

Now, in my mind, they relinquished all rights to Israel at that moment, by choosing not to vote. So calling these cities settlements is absolutely ludicrous! The Palestinians need to ship out to Lybia!

Ahhh, the lesson I mentioned...We can never ever ever give up our right to vote in this country. Even though many of us feel like our elections are skewed *or rigged*, we must keep voting!

Great reporting Pop!

I watch the news, but not CNN, and this is the first I learned of this atrocity. In our country after 9/11, I heard much about the terrorists, almost beatifying their willingness to be martyrs for their convictions. But, their convictions seem hypocritic to me after learning how their culture subjects women to hiding all but their eyes behind yards of shapeless material, and imprisoning them with their children for disobeying their stringent rules that only apply to women. My understanding is that the pilots in the 911 terrorist attacks spent the night before in strip clubs. So, for all the lofty ideals they purport to live by, it's a case of "Do everything I say, not what I do". Their power is not about education, scripture, or dying for a cause, it's about terrorizing and control. I can't remember a time when anything was ever any different for these groups. It continues to be the way they dictate without compromise, even when they choose to live their lives defying their religious demands. I have a difficult time believing the strength of their convictions, if as martyrs they would chose to spend their last night on earth in a strip club or celebrate the senseless, brutal killing of an innocent family. God help us all.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop Hub Author 14 months ago

Dear outdoorguy,

It is so wonderful to hear the voice of reason. Israel knows how to compromise and has done so many times, but in the end there is no such thing as compromise when your enemy wants you dead. Towns that have flourished for over 30 years cannot be considered settlements. It's absurd. See you at the inn.

Dear Amy,

This is unthinkable. The guys who pulled off this mission had to have been some real brave dudes. Heck, one of those children could have bitten one of them.

The Man With No Pants will no longer use the word terrorists. It gives these people too much of a bravado sound. From no on I will only refer to these people as cowards. They don't stand and fight. They sneak around playing deadly pranks. When they die, they set themselve up to die instantly and painlessly in order to go to Paradise and have group sex with virgins. You never see coward vets who lost body parts fighting for what they believe in. We've seen they don't handle pain well. I could go on and on, but I won't.

I would appreciate it if anyone reading this would substitute the word terrorists with the word cowards also. Who knows? It could catch on, and wouldn't that be cool. The entire world calling them what they what they really are. Up and awesome sis.

Unfortunately, the media is necessary. That need to know what is going on in the world has created a monster driven by competition and big bucks rather than the truth. Sensationalism is rampant. The truth comes last. World News anchors are chosen for their ability to win in the ratings war. I am not so naive that I don't understand the laws of supply and demand and that money rules. But, at the very least I'd like to get what I pay for. The crisis in Japan and the deserved attention has been anxiety producing beyond the devastating facts. Reports of those entities that no one really knows are creating hysteria even as far away as here. Shelves holding iodine tablets are empty with fears of a radioactive cloud heading this way. Right now the Japanese are the victims of this horrific chain of events, without food, water or power. If I see Lester Holt's radioactive contaminated shoe soles one more time....Those coming into the airports here from Japan are met with geiger counters that show little radioactive activity, with the largest amounts from medical equipment onboard! We are exposed to higher levels from our own airport screening equipment. I am gauging my fears on when the reporters start leaving...until the time when they truly feel their health may be jeapordized by staying and their competition for the almighty dollar weighs in less, then I'll know the magnitude of the nuclear ramifications loom at a level that will more than likely impact the whole planet.

We aren't really getting that in the MSM and cable distorts everything too.
